Chieri Ito really nails this song, I prefer her version to Meiko's original. Her innocent and sweet voice really adds to the bittersweet lyrics, it feels like she was meant to sing this.
I'm partial to Meiko because she's one of my favorite singers ever. Plus she gets bonus points for composing the song. Chieri is awesome too and this is a great cover. It easily stands on its own. Their voices are very different and I think it's like comparing apples to oranges. I wish there were more covers like this by Showa-era idols. @@twinkletwinkle374 I quite like Ito's version but Meiko's original is indeed better IMO. In the former's version, although still present, the Salsa elements that lent its flavour to the song have been either toned down or 'updated' to better fit in with her style.
