Another Auction Mistake, Or Is It? 1987 Citroen 2CV6 Special Bamboo Edition

- We're a happy-go-lucky couple, who go through life laughing at our own mistakes, but even we started to wonder if the impulse auction purchase of a Citroen 2CV that hadn't seen a road for years was a step too far....
We called in a friend, Mike, to see if he fancied a challenge. He loves to tinker and he loves to polish, but what would he make of the 2CV?
This is Part One - a walkaround, the formation of a plan and a bit of a drive. Oh, and Claire nearly comes a cropper! We hope you enjoy it. Part Two is already being filmed!

A car that I laughed at as I grew up, but eventually drove one that was part-ex'd at a dealership I worked at when I was seventeen. Slow and wobbly, but what a LAUGH, and an engineering masterpiece. I'd have one in a heartbeat now.
Great to see another Bamboo; I've owned mine for 8 years and loved every minute. Loads of fun to drive, fantastic suspension and you can easily get all the parts you need.....I wouldn't want to have a crash in it though! 😀
Thanks, Owen. This has been so much fun already. A couple of people watched the video and seem to have totally missed that point. The laughing is at the strange ‘mods’ this one has and how I really should look at a car before I buy it. That said, it wouldn’t have been so much fun without all these ‘quirks’ 😂 Can’t wait to show you the next video; she’s looking lovely now and we’re chipping away at the little jobs that need doing. We’ve got a lot of cars here, but not many of them make you smile as much as the Bamboo 😀
Judging by the 'mods' I wouldn't be surprised if the previous owner also owned my house at some point.... Interesting.... 😂. Can't wait to watch the project develop!
The most important info in the owner's manual was the Bus Time Table. Lol.
I drove a 2cv for 20 years with never a breakdown.
Cool car !
As a 2CV enthusiast, i really enjoyed your video and how you all enjoyed the whacky features! I hope you get it cleaned up and I am looking forward to the next video!
I’m glad you’re on the same page as us. We love this car! And guess what we’ve been doing today? I’ll give you a clue; it involves a pressure washer, polisher, a few other bits and quite a few hours of work…you’ll love the result. 😀
@UKBarnFinds can't wait to see!
@@UKBarnFinds slide the bonnet off, the boot lid and rear doors all very easy. wings come off easily too. this all makes access good. be careful with pressure washer as water can get into the points behind the fan if it doesnt have 123 electronic ignition
To be honest it looks like a half decent example that just needs some minor tlc. Bamboo editions are quite rare now , released in the summer of 87 when StarTrekkin, Rick Astley and Whitney topped the music charts! 👍
WHAT WALLIES!
I have had quite a few 2CV's, they are a truly clever design, just enough parts to make a car!
I have used these off road, surprisingly capable & comfortable. I just love the simplicity, economy & fun factor 😁
That’s what appeals to me, straight away. There’s virtually nothing to them, yet they do the job they were designed for very well.
Film companies, used to use these as camera cars, as they are a stable platform and the open roof. Can’t wait for episode two
I was genuinely surprised how good it was over rough ground.
Gaffer tape galore as some one said you can fix anything on a car with gaffer tape and cable ties but this 2CV is over kill
A bamboo is a rare model😎
Nice car
ECAS for all 2cv parts.
roy eastwood of ecas has been involved with 2cv for close to 50 years he's the go to guy.
I'm glad you can't see my embarrassed face 😊 but I did try to buy a 2CV back in the late 80s.
It was the Chalston version, quite trendy at the time, a two tone yellow and black or maroon and black with the chrome headlamps. But the waiting time for them as I recall was quite some time.
The salesman tried to get me interested in the Dolly version, that was was a no no ! My family and friends would start calling me Dolly knowing them. 😅 I wasn't having that. On hindsight I never did buy one, just as well really.
You’ve missed out. Time to rewind and live that 2CV dream. 😂
@@UKBarnFinds or nightmare 😂 cheers 🍻
@@peterward3965 you do have to be very careful buying one. they can hide all sorts of problems many unscrupulous sellers hide things using carpet etc
Ask hubnut Ian Seabrook
Try driving elly hubnut 2cv
I too grew up when these were a joke….end of their line like the one in the video.
But > …..these are now classics, which at launch were advanced for their time….and there’s a whole following with lots of replacement parts….you can replace all those bits!….and it’s going to be worth something too.
Spot on! We’ve wanted a 2CV for a while. I should have done a bit of research, though, and not just bought the one that was going cheap, without even looking at it. That said, it may have been an impulse purchase, but we’re really enjoying it. It’s not just the quirkiness of the car, but the ingenuity and eccentricity of the previous owner that is adding to the fun. We’ll be working on it today (polish, as well as fitting some of the parts that have arrived already) and seeing what we uncover when all the tape comes off. Can’t wait! Thanks for watching.
Yes
I had the same one 2CV6 Special in red. 0-60 in 30 seconds over the stock 32 seconds. Newcastle to Hull 7 hours. My mate had a Renault 4 that felt like a ferrari after the deux che Vo
I’m guessing we’ll need to measure this one in smiles per mile 😂
you bought it very cheaply. the club 2cvgb is a good source of help
if the bonnet don't fit properly chassis could be bent or broken. also rusty windscreen surround requires replacement
Bonnet fits fine. We’ve removed those catches now 👍🏻
@@UKBarnFinds excellent tbh its usually the little 3/4 panels between wing and bonnet that indicate a bent or broken chassis....i write from bitter experience lol
Ha! Hopefully, whatever we find is fixable. So far, it’s been great fun.
Oh dear!
That Mike's quite hot !
Ah, Mrs Mike, welcome to the channel 😂
Wee wee monsieur . . Zee traction avant had zee same type of gear shift . . . . . And james bond drove a 2cv aswell remember . . .
Looks like ya got a bit of a project mate . . . Im sure most will buff out lol . . Good luck . . .
If you have other cars it would be nice to see your collection at some point . . . Have fun from new zealand 👍
But his Martini wouldn’t have even been shaken, not with that suspension 😂 I’m sure our other cars will crop up in future videos. We have quite a few. One of the joys of living on an old farm. Thanks for watching and I’m glad you’re enjoying our mix of videos.
@@UKBarnFinds looking forward to seeing them . . .
Elton, now you just need a baguette and some cheese....
I’m holding out for a beret….
What a shame you don’t realise the amazing technology that went into this vehicle, that’s why they sold millions of them .
I’m learning. That’s the point. Genuinely amazed at how effective that suspension is and how that little 2-cylinder engine gets the car around. I’m glad we bought it and am looking forward to giving it a new lease of life.
@@UKBarnFinds most people dont understand the level of technology that created this not least the machining of parts to one micron enabling an engine without gaskets when most manufacturers couldnt get anywhere near that.
Makes me glad I’m not English
Must be worth the £20, you paid for it.
Chris Harris Top gear ,,,, has a 2cv.
Sorry, had to give up after 10 minutes of taking the P out of this much-loved, great little car.
