Just remember it takes eight minutes for light to travel from sun to earth which means you'll know we've succeeded about eight minutes after we deliver the payload. All you have to do is look out for a little extra brightness in the sky. So if you wake up one morning and it's a particularly beautiful day, you'll know we made it. Okay I'm signing out, and I'll see you in a couple of years. -Capa
Sunshine is one of Danny Boyle's most underrated films, the sets, soundtrack, acting, story, everything is quite good, definitely worth having on bluray.
There are at least two possible outcomes for Capa. The first possibility is that he is incinerated by the sun after detonating the bomb. The second possibility is that time and space as we know it break down at the point where Capa detonates the bomb, due to the massive release of energy involved. This interpretation might be implied by the way he sees the bomb spark into life and surround him with light and energy but at the same time not harm him. As the energy potential in the massive nuclear bomb begins to be released, time slows down, relative to him. This effect might be amplified by the fact that Capa is already surrounded by a super massive source of energy and gravity - the Sun (recall that as the bomb falls into the Sun and Capa and Pinbacker fight, time seems to stall and behave strangely). As the bomb begins to detonate Capa can see the patterns of energy spring into existence and unfold before his eyes without the full destructive force reaching him. At the point where the bomb's release of energy reaches its peak, space-time (relative to Capa) slows down to an immeasurably slow crawl and seems to almost stop. Capa's body and consciousness thus remain intact and unharmed despite the massive forces around him in that instant. Thus he can bear witness a near eternity of pure, dancing energy. To the observer on earth (represented by Capa's sister) the sun explodes into new life. Capa's consciousness, caught in a moment that stretches on forever, gets to bear witness to the very thing that Pinbacker and Searle merely tasted and were so intoxicated by, the ultimate creative source of everything in its incredible beauty. Perhaps a moment of bliss. Material spirituality? Spiritual materiality? This interpretation very loosely ties in with how some theoretical physicists speculate time and consciousness might be affected by being proximate to massive amounts of matter/energy, some implications of the theory of relativity and about how a black hole and its event horizon might be perceived by a nearby observer. Consider, Capa's sister would have experienced the explosion approximately eight minutes and 20 seconds after Capa experienced it, due to the time it takes light to travel from Sun to Earth, just one of the ways that energy, time and consciousness is relative. Deep stuff indeed. (But just to be clear, even with this theory, time only slowed down *relative* to Capa. By the time his sister saw our local star spark to new life the bomb *had* exploded. Taking Capa with it, who was undoubtedly destroyed in the blast and had ceased to exist more than 8 minutes prior to the new light reaching Earth. Capa died instantly, whether he experienced an eternity of bliss in that split second or not.)
+mead puckett Wether this is physically true or not, to me, this sounds like the most beautiful interpretation to this ending. At the end, his dream came true witnessing the bomb explode into billions of sparks. This scene is so beautiful and emotionally touching, I'm not able to say any more. Just that it was a paticularly beautiful day...
+mead puckett Capa kept his faith all throughout, in science , in his ability and acted as sidelined neutral observer unlike others , never got scared and till the the end.
+CapnKhater I'm really glad I saw this in a movie theater. Can you believe I was alone in it? No one came to see this unbelievable movie. I was stunned by it.
Everyone who came here cuz of xmen, go and watch sunshine. In my opinion, it's a waay better piece than xmen. Sunshine is one of the most beautiful movies I have ever seen. I reccomend it :)
Also, this piece was made for this movie in particular, all of its re-uses in other movies are completely inappropriate and unfitting. Be it X-Men, Walking Dead, Kick-Ass, I have nothing against either of those, but this music just doesn't fit anything except Sunshine, sorry.
This is my all time favorite piece of music. I was surprised when it came up during Diana’s flying scene. It threw me. I thought Zimmer was being lazy. It’s been used in countless trailers and many times on tv and other movies; a couple of times in The Walking Dead, variations of it was use in Kick-Ass and The Grey. It’s starting to become the welhem scream of music 😂 I’ve since watched this scene several times, and it doesn’t bother me anymore. It’s just a beautiful moment.
It's probably my favorite song too! I've been thinking of re creating the movie version but it's not even 2 mins long and fades out sharply. The extra strings, horns and drum sound nice though.
I was so surprised when I heard the opening chords at that moment. A very good choice, even though I was hoping for another memorable epic number like No Mans Land from the first film. This was still good.
I almost cried. I have this song on my spotify playlist. When I listende to the first part I was like: Nooo, It can't be. Nooooo, no way. Ahhhhhhh And that was me really excited.
I heard it in WW84 and was shocked. How did they manage to use this there? And I searched on the 1984 soundtrack and this isn't listed. Why wouldn't they list it? Very weird
It's defo in the top ten, that scene where he's in the suit trying to get to the detached part of the ship is so tense , the way they made the sun like an actor in the movie itself was amazing, Danny Boyles greatest work, but the trailer made it look like the computer was taking over the ship like in so many movies before and that's why I reckon not enough people saw it
Think of the movie and the music as a metaphor for life fully lived... everyone goes on a dangerous trip, everyone goes out a bit differently in the end, but all of them live fully in the time they have. It's not so sad.
I am impressed how the uploader changed the thumbnail on this legendary piece of music to WW84 scene of Wonder Woman flying, to be honest this music is the thing that made that scene so much more emotional and powerful!! I just loved this music SOOO much since The Walking Dead and the beloved X-Men: Days of Future Past trailer!!
It's hard to even grasp the power or size or age of the sun. It's amazing that that circle of light in the sky is so powerful, and the sun is just an average star. It can't even fuse helium.
i agree with you, it's simply unimaginable. i like to watch shows about the universe and science in the evening, like ritual when i go to bed. in such shows i heard of canis majoris. a star so large, scientists thought it couldn't exist. mind blowing.

I remember when I saw this movie for the first time and I immediately drew direct connections to my all time favorite move, 2001: A Space Odyssey. The suicide mission, self-sacrifice, and spiritual yet atheistic overtones. Absolutely spectacular.
fantastic score, and i love this movie, everyone complaining about the change in the second half need to stop expecting the same routine, it was a welcome surprise for me.
RIP my poor eardrums.... I am speechless, i have never heard such a powerful emotional piece of music in my life that i can remember, this is my third time in a row iv listened to this, beautiful, thank you for posting this.
amazing! i gave birth to my first son while listening to this piece. i managed to plop him into this world using the euphoria induced by this piece! i love you all!
The theory goes that the closest you get to the sun the slower time goes. So that scene just demonstrates time "stopping" before being consumed by the sun.
jowston100 The scene itself is incredibly powerful and poetic, but it's definitely not scientific. There's not enough gravitational force at the Sun's surface to provide any noticeable level of time dilation. Realistically it's only a hallucination inside Capa's mind. Doesn't make it less impressive, though.
jowston100 Then again, the bomb itself is some sci-fi dark matter thing that has enough mass to generate its own human-appropriate gravitational pull despite being only the size of a city block. So maybe the time dilation is actually the consequence of the bomb going off.
***** Quote from imdb "The plot does not revolve around the sun dying in the normal sense: this is not due for around five billion years based on our understanding of nuclear fusion. It has instead been "infected" with a "Q-ball" - a supersymmetric nucleus, left over from the big bang - that is disrupting the normal matter. This is a theoretical particle that scientists at CERN are currently trying to confirm, and was one of the many contributions of the science advisor. The film's bomb is meant to blast the Q-ball to its constituent parts which will then naturally decay, allowing the sun to return to normal." So the film is correct just not in the sense people seem to think :) And the sun doesn't go inside the bomb cemo1999 that is the bomb detonating :)
I remember them saying "create a sun within the sun" or something along those lines. I think that "sun" inside the bomb was what happened when it detonated, and the ending was meant to be more interesting than just showing the guy getting engulfed by fire! ;-)

I remember when I saw this movie for the first time and I immediately drew direct connections to my all time favorite move, 2001: A Space Odyssey. The suicide mission, self-sacrifice, and spiritual yet atheistic overtones. Absolutely spectacular.
I want to die listening to this song...
fantastic score, and i love this movie, everyone complaining about the change in the second half need to stop expecting the same routine, it was a welcome surprise for me.
We got ourselves a time traveler..
Wtf is happening here lol
Haha for real!!!!
Guys, I'm scared. One of the comments says "5 years ago" 🥴
@@HORSESNDOGS9 yeah like you can't edit youtube titles so im confused af
Music and editing - two things that, when done right, make a film truly special......
Yes Lyube100, this is so perfect....it brings tears to my eyes.

Hello from Civilization 6 trailer
nah
Best version of this ever. Has been so hard to find one that matches intensity in the film. This nailed it.
They played this in the walking dead s1 also
This is the most amazing song I've ever heard in my life
If i die i want this as my funeral music
+Ian Kirwan I was thinking the same thing. It's sad and beautiful at the same time.

Sunshine is such an underrated film, it is truly brilliant.
Kaneda, what did you see?
"SEE YO GIRL IN THE PARK,
DAT GIRL WAS A UCKERS"
один из лучших фильмов, один из лучших саундтреков!
This has a similar feel to Philip Glass's Truman show score
thank you
I'm a twenty year old woman. I'm completely in love with classical and musical scores. Just throwing that put there, guys. :)
This movie was really nice ı couldn't understand the end when the sun gets inside the bomb
***** Quote from imdb
"The plot does not revolve around the sun dying in the normal sense: this is not due for around five billion years based on our understanding of nuclear fusion. It has instead been "infected" with a "Q-ball" - a supersymmetric nucleus, left over from the big bang - that is disrupting the normal matter. This is a theoretical particle that scientists at CERN are currently trying to confirm, and was one of the many contributions of the science advisor. The film's bomb is meant to blast the Q-ball to its constituent parts which will then naturally decay, allowing the sun to return to normal."
So the film is correct just not in the sense people seem to think :) And the sun doesn't go inside the bomb cemo1999 that is the bomb detonating :)
I remember them saying "create a sun within the sun" or something along those lines. I think that "sun" inside the bomb was what happened when it detonated, and the ending was meant to be more interesting than just showing the guy getting engulfed by fire! ;-)
one of my favourite songs,gorgeous.
Did X Men Days of Future Past rip off this Soundtrack, because it sounds the same XD!
yes!!!
They didn't rip it off, they used this same score in the trailer. Movies do it all the time.
No it is not but it is part of the Sunshine soundtrack, the one that was used in X MEN was called John Murphy-Adagio in D Manor Sunshine soundtrack.
so did the walking dead in the first season
They do however use this particular song in Kickass.
The most beatiful thing I've ever seen!
Is Sunshine a better movie than Interstellar?
+Bradley Salas Yes
+Bradley Salas Yes..Much greater atmosphere allround plus an epic soundtrack combined with epic scenes
