  • "To be honest with you, art is the only thing that keeps my desire to be here - the next project. Being able to see the world through any given person's eyes on, out of the 6 billion people that exist here, the fact that nobody is exactly the same. It's one of the consistently unfolding beauties of life that really makes worth sticking around for. Everybody has their reason for continuing and I guess art is mine. " - Soul Glo

Today we’re releasing our next video in partnership with the 988 Suicide + Crisis Lifeline and our “Song That Found Me At The Right Time” series. This one features Philly based hardcore band Soul Glo and their take on the classic System of a Down song “Soil”.
Soul Glo seamlessly embodies the essence of punk's rich lineage, drawing inspiration from its predecessors while simultaneously offering a fresh and unparalleled perspective to a scene that was yearning for innovation. Their presence is propelling the genre forward.
A Soul Glo live performance is an experience of catharsis, both for the audience and the band themselves. Their music, along with this remarkable video, delves thematically into the complexities of rage, bigotry, and the often absurd aspects of human nature. Demonstrating a poignant vulnerability, the band extends a subtle yet powerful metaphorical hand, inviting all listeners to join them on their journey.

    "Confidence, death, insecurity
    Your men fall unrealized
    Unrealized, unrealized"

    #Soulglo

I can relate to this a ton. I also grew up in the millennial fashion as a gay dude. I had people throw containers of beer at me, got kicked out of my house for being gay, called slurs, and dealt with suicidal thoughts. I feel like this generation of men used "gay" as a weapon for non-traditional guys to manipulate them into acting like some 1950s nuclear family stereotype. I never really could place the hatred people had for me for literally no reason other than being in a different club. I feel like music, the angrier, the louder was not particularly fashionable in the gay world, but thankfully it didn't matter to people that mattered to me. Hope you and yours are safe.

Soil does indeed slap and it’s no surprise that Soul Glo ripped a version that also slaps. Beautiful video.

Like most of the SOAD catalogue, this is so much fun to blast out on the drums. I can see the joy in TJ's face as well :D
