Hi, I'm on the hunt for an M5 right now. Read somewhere that it is normal for the lightmeter to take some time before working properly after replacing the battery. Hope that info is reassuring!
Interesting. I think the batteries I use with it require you to peel off a sticker wait 30 minutes before putting it in the camera. It's also recommended to replace said sticker when the battery is not in use. Wein 1.35 v zinc-air battery
I have my M5 since about a year and I love it 👍The lightmeter with the needle is sooo convenient since you can roughly see how many stops you are over-exposing. So much nicer than the newer LEDs... However, sometimes I am missing the 28mm and 75mm frame lines. Cheers from Germany.
Glad to hear that you still love it. Too bad it doesn't have those frame lines for sure. I was surprised to see how bright the frame lines and meter readings are and I love that you can clearly see your shutter speed. The recording I did with the iPhone through the viewfinder didn't do it justice. Germany... WOW! It's cool to see how far the reach of RUclips is. Thank you!!!
I'm looking forward to running a few rolls through it. I think, not too far into the future, it's going to be one of the most wanted M film cameras. It just hasn't got the attention it deserves... Yet!
Little known feature of the M5 is that the shutter speed is stepless. From Leica Photography Volume 25, #1, 1972: "... over its [shutter speed] range, settings are continuously variable with exception of a small gap between 1/40 and 1/50 second, the latter is the X synchronization speed marked by a dot, before the 1/60 setting." So after you select an aperture, you can adjust the shutter speed for an exact exposure. Need to set the shutter at 1/154th of a second? No problem! No M6 (or any other M-mount Leica that I know of) can do this.
I have that camera too. You can see it setting beside the Polaroid SX70 on the shelve behind me. It's funny you mentioned it because after I watched the video back, I thought, I should have compared the two.
Oh yes: I see it now. That would have been a comical size comparison. Also, an image quality comparison would be interesting. Based on my experience so far, the Texas M (for Monster) should win hands down due to the negative's Jumbo real estate. One can display the 6 x 9 pictures at A2+ size before seeing any grain whereas, with 35mm film, the threshold is about at A4 size. The Fuji lenses (I have bought the 65, 100 and 180mm) are very sharp so the rendering is excellent, even at the A2+ size. However, what I have not spent on the gear, I may end up spending on film instead!
I love the Fuji and the 6X9 images it produces. I've got a couple of videos on my channel using it. I did show it upside my Leica M3. You're right, the images are sharp... They're stunning!!! It's one of my favorite film cameras I that I have.
Enjoy! The meter tends to dance! Normal.. if it stops working, get a meter for your phone! Hektor or Elmar? Elmar is better, stop down. I was offered an unused NEW M5 at dealer! I said no, because I had M3 and M2. It was at cost or less.

I've had my M5 for two years now, can't imagine taking photos on anything else. It's fantastic.
That’s making a statement for sure! 👍 Thanks
Impressive find and rescue.
Much appreciated! I got lucky on this one. It’s nice to have one I don’t feel like I have to baby.
So cool that you took the leap of faith and removed the back cover & it payed out :)!
@@ausgeknipst thanks! I was super happy it started working. Wish I knew exactly what it was just in case it happens again.
M5 is just as gorgeous and well built as any other Leica. It's my go-to for everything
I think its one of the best looking too! They all are really!
Love my M5! Also have an M2 but the M5 is a joy to use in comparison. My Goto 📷
It’s such a beautiful camera. I love it!
I love it reading or hearing stuff like that.
Good for you man
Enjoy it with heart and soul 🎉
I will, thank you sooo much 😃
The M5 is a jewel!!
Agreed! This is the one people should be jumping on while the price is right.

Congratulations on your M5. I picked one up a year ago for $1500, it's a silver top and I use it often. It's a great camera.
Thanks so much. I'm glad to hear that. So far I'm loving it.
The M5 is my favorite Leica M5. It’s a sleeper!

Great find. For a used Leica the M5 is supposed to be a gem.
I haven’t developed any pictures yet but using the camera feels great. I’m loving it so far!
@@camerafusion Sherry Krauter who has repaired leica's for years said in a interview the M5 was best built used leica to purchase.
@@sdhute I keep hearing her name. I'm going to have to look for that interview.
If you can’t find it I can email the link. It was on nice.
The black body definitely looks better than the silver one
Hope you have lots of fun with it!
Thank you! I would be happy with either, both are beautiful, but definitely something special about the black.
For the win!!! Congrats
Thank you!!!

Good to know… now I’ve got to go do a little research lol.
I got one recently in mint condition. So happy with it!
Awesome! I was eyeballing a few in mint condition, but when I saw the price of this one and with the lens, I figured I'd give it a shot.
I recently bought the Leica "Texas" model (the Fujica GL690) and you definitely cannot stretch your hand across that one.
I have that camera too. You can see it setting beside the Polaroid SX70 on the shelve behind me. It's funny you mentioned it because after I watched the video back, I thought, I should have compared the two.

M5 is Better built than M6 and M7 . Better meter more accurate as a spot meter TTL .
It’s a tank! And it’s a beautiful camera.
imo the m5 is the best looking one. the looks to it remind me of the Tati film Playtime
It's a beautiful camera for sure! I'd never heard of Playtime, I'll have to go look that up.

A NEW M5 at Dealer Cost?! OMG!!! I would have snatched that baby up. Thanks for the heads-up on the light meter. I'm looking forward to testing out.
I got my M4 from Sri Lanka for 650$ + 115 for CLA and 50 for new vulkanite :3

@@camerafusion Yeah i had really big deal and luck ^^
