Alex was so lovely talking you through your round. I haven't evented since the days when it was called BHS eventing BUT back in those days we seemed to jump on mud all the time, and all these lovely arenas didn't exist. In heavy going one always had to ride more strongly but not rush, to give the horse the impulsion to jump out of the mud without running or slipping, they need a lot more power than usual and a lot of balance. I suspect you guys just are not used to jumping in mud so i really would just let that round go, forget it, and look forward to the next competition. And remember a hanging cheek snaffle is softer than a normal ring there is NO poll pressure as the cheek pieces loosen when the rein is uses BUT the action "floats" a bit in the mouth as the bit is lifted in the mouth off the bars by rein action, so one can get a delayed feel using it.
Love how Alex explained his perspective on the halt so calmly and logically. It sounded so rational and made a lot of sense to me. Can't wait to see how Badminton will go for you two! 🤞🏼
That's what I love so much about his approach to training the horses, he is so calm and rational. Explains things so clearly whilst being extremely disciplined xx
I don’t know if others will pick up on this which is actually such a huge key to all riding. You asked about halts; Alex responded I’m teaching him discipline, staying still when mounting. Soooo many people miss this, you are only riding the horse you lead. That is perpetually missed by so many. It all begins on the ground. If you have no discipline on the ground you can’t expect to have it in the saddle. A horse can’t generalise it. Alex is my new favourite for sure. Well done team!!
After retiring halfway round the xc at our last event in deep ground because my girl just didn’t feel right it was SO reassuring hearing Alex talk about horses that are careful becoming anxious. Loved these exercises and will definitely be trying a few of them. You both looked great 🫶🏻
I think Alex was spot on. That SJ arena was on a slope and heavy ground. Banksy was being totally honest and looking out for you. Keep that positive mind set. You can, and you will. SO looking forward to Badminton. Very best of luck.
Loving all the vlogs and each one is showing how much you are improving. Cannot believe its only 4wks till badminton. Dont put too much pressure on yourself you are both fab.xx
What a wonderful jump school Tina!!!! I’m super happy you had the opportunity to train with Alex again - just my simple opinion but his style and ability to explain or rather ,breakdown things to you and then , the way you are able to execute whatever it is …. Just STELLAR. 🤩 Such a big big change in your lines once you began to “tidy”yourself up a bit with respect to your hands , bringing them together and following through with your arms and just allowing a bit more SO WELL DONE TINA !!!! You and Banksy are doing amazing things and your going to be MEGA at Badminton . Thanks for bringing us along ❤🦄❤️
as a dressage rider we can be quite picky about our rein length and hand position but i have learned that while it can be hard to have short reins it really does makes a difference. I find shorter reins make adjustments much easier and allows you to be more subtle but effective. I think when your hands get in your lap and your elbows by your spine movements have to be alot bigger and it tightens your whole body. I had a trainer who would make us hold a crop along the tops of our hands with our thumbs to make sure our hands stayed even and to be able to do this you would have to have short reins. yall look great and I cant wait for more :)
So so so appreciate your sharing the lessons!! Thank you so much. I just thought I’d comment that the stop at your event was one single moment of hesitation by Banksy dealing with the footing and a double along a fence line. I think your trainer Alex nailed it on the head when he pointed out that all the horses are trying to make the switch to the jumping on deep grass and the smart, careful ones may want a better look (and a tad more support). You jumped every single other fence beautifully and came back and jumped the double beautifully as well. I thought your decision to pick better ground was a good one. I loved the last line in your lesson where Alex told you to take a breath and give the horse just a moment to get a better turn to the next line (we all feel so rushed in our show jumping these days that we lose some of the quality). Now for Badminton…please please try and focus on how you do this for fun and that absolutely lovely horse is such a fantastic, clever, enthusiastic partner and he wants you both to have fun too. You take such exquisite care of each other and Badminton should be a blast! I like to look at how beautiful all the jumps are and how the showgrounds are so lovely and the atmosphere is electric. Appreciate each jump and how those jumps are there for you!! All set up and decorated and just for you!! You are such an accomplished rider and a really clever person. And please look how far you have come!! You used to be so timid about going out on your own and needing someone else to help you. I think you are amazing. You are so organized, and brave and focused and your riding proves it. I really enjoy your vlogs. I really really enjoy seeing your confidence build (of course we all get a reminder from time to time about how complicated riding another thinking sentient being is…) and really think you do a great job with all the demands on your time. Keep smiling and sharing!!❤
How lovely is Alex? , calm encouraging , professional and simplifies the very difficult art of accurate show jumping .! Love all your trainers well done Tina & Banksy . So rooting for you two as a combination at Badders ! XX
What an amazing video. Thank you for sharing. Also….. as a mom I can feel your questions to the trainer. You are very concerned about banks in a way of a mother. It’s extremely darling ❤
Wonderful watching these lessons. Banksy was just taking care of you and himself. He is a wonderful partner. Trust him to know what he is doing. You are a very talented rider.
I loved that you still shared it with us. Maybe the pressure does help you also in the preparation to your events, as you also have presure in the events 😉 You are doing great, don't doubt you self, I wish I could jump like you. I wish you all the luck for your next events and off course badminton!!!🍀 you can do it 💪
Well done Tina x I don't think you and Banks could be better prepared for Badminton. Banks looks so fit and well and you are riding him so well. Keep up the good work and positive attitude! Love it! xx
Hi Tina I lick the way Alex exsplaned the exercise, IT makes it easier to UNDER stand. TAKE care and all the best. And a big thank you to Alex .😊😄😄😄👍👍🐶
Lovely school. Glad it was confidence booster. Alex’s discipline of walk, leg yield really making a difference in your riding through the line to end👏👏 always appreciate you sharing your journey. Can’t believe Poppy is gonna be 1. Happy Birthday Poppy 🐾🧡
He's such a good teacher - his point about creating a channel to keep you straight has clicked something in my brain. I can't wait to try some of this out!
Super glad that you did vlog and show us this one! Alex's tips are always so amazing, and now I have a new thing to try with my ottb before his first event this weekend. From the other side of the world, so appreciate you sharing! ❤
It’s the unfortunate downside to living in such a pretty part of the world!! But thankfully I don’t mind driving and he’s a very good traveller which helps xx
Thank you so much for airing this. I am sorry that it was a doubt for you but I learned a lot from what Alex pointed out about how you could improve because I have many of the same quirks (sicken arms as you said!). It was clear how his cues helped you adjust and get better results. You are doing really well on the journey. Looking forward to the next few weeks - there’s a lot for you to be positive about!!
Love that you took us along!!! Don't feel that you have to though..... Whatever makes you feel most confident makes the best content I think! ❤❤ You have developed so much as a rider and Banks is just a really cool horse! ❤❤ Just remember to enjoy Badminton and have fun!!!
He is wonderful but I think variety is great too. Cam and Simon are amazing. I think Tina is smart to use all the resources and friendships she has cultivated ❤️

You improve every single vlog. I wish you could see all the faith we have in you! Get out of your head my darling! You can do this. Just try and think of badminton as just another event. And you're on your epic capable boy, and you really do ride so so so well! Trust banks but also trust yourself! You're beating yourself up over something that was ground related. Put it out of your head, and focus on Badders!!! Alex is right. Trust Banksy, keep him moving forward and he will make it every time. You also spend a lot of time telling how wonderful he is! Well, I get it. He is wonderful. But when he is jumping and working, he doesn't need good boys so much. He knows he's a good boy and when it is all said and done, pat him and tell him he is the best! The trot, walk and leg yield are perfect because it settles Banks down and adds more discipline to the routine. I love him too! He's spectacular but you are a bit demonstrative in your affection! I would be too, we know you love Banksy and he loves you! But when his working hat is on, he needs to work! (I sound like I'm preaching. I'm not, if Banksy was my horse I would cuddle him all the time.) But it does both of you a bit of a disservice when it comes to competing. You are so busy praising him that I sometimes think you aren't prepared for the next jump.I don't notice it too much when you are competing, more when you are in a lesson. But lessons are work too. Finish your line, keep your canter moving, trot, leg yield and big pats all around! And as always. Thank you for sharing. You will both be great at Badders and HAVE FUN!
