I was literally so confused whether I should pursue geology or not. After seeing your videos on geology I'm pretty sure this is career path I want to take. Thank you so much!
In Mexico we use "Earth an Introduction to Physical Geology" by Tarbuck and Lutgens for physical geology or general geology courses. We know Prothero for his "Sedimentary Geology", we use it for sedimentology and stratigraphy, as well as Boggs. Winter is one of the best for igneous and metamorphic. Those atlas for rocks in thin section are useful as hell, especially the second that you showed. I know that book for well logs, but ive never read it. A classical book in Latin America is "Dana´s Manual of Mineralogy", maybe the most used book for geology students in all our countries (as well as Tarbuck).
In the early 80’s I dropped out of university. I was a geology major and Hydrogeology was my favorite subject. I should’ve stuck it out and finished my classes. Every day I pick up a rock and look at it and wish I had never left university
You are on point doing my undergrad in geology major , JD winter and sam boggs are really important and please help us finding right university to do our post grad. Thank you for other books which is very good.
Thanks for this practical video. I am beginning to study geology as a hobby, since I did not have time for this in college. I had been looking for a good basic textbook. I will start with the first one that you discussed.
When I watch this video . I can see clear ..the big diference between a South american student like me in Peru that I studied Geology enginering just with copies of books, and I see that in the priveligious countries like Canada or Usa Students have great books ; that is a pity to born in countries where to have a nice books like that as a student at the University would be a luxury here in Peru...I asked myself what unfair is this world .......
sam boggs's book indeed is my life saver when I was in college and also I'd like to recommend "essentials of geology by stephen marshak, Deep-water processes and facies models by Shanmugam if you're interested in sedimentary deep-water, and the last, my life saver when I was doing my thesis, "sandstone diagenesis the evolution of sand to stone" by Worden and Burley when you're interested in sandstone diagenesis

Help? Love your videosss
Absolutely, the very first book I showed "Understanding Earth" is a great book for just reading if you are interested in Earth in general. I took some geochemistry classes and loved them, but I am a bit of a nerd and love chemistry, so rocks + chemistry was awesome...hahaha

So, it seems geology is too much precised and relevant, I thought it would be something in details, in terms of country, landscape, people, culture and civilization but it I think it's just about rocks and mountains.

Reading JD Winters was a nightmare.
Which specific geology book is most recommendable for an undergraduate student pursuing Geology??
That really depends on your program and university/college. Every school has its own list of preferred books I would say.

Can u please recommend me any good book for hydrogeology for UPSC GSI exam
Can you say ,all collage use the same books or different books ??
