This is Corrie as it was meant to be. Lighthearted and amusing with hints of everyday dramas that everyone could relate to. It's a great break from the overly intense, suck the fun out of a bouncy castle Corrie of today
@@francesgillotti1378 oh eck I hadn't thought of having to watch all of my favourites die off. I very nearly cried when Valerie Barlow suddenly died. Was such a well acted shock (no pun intended) that I needed a Brandy myself but I don't have any haha. Hope you're still well ❤️

Stan really was a lazy good for nothing, Hilda worshipped him, or should I say felt obliged to because she was married to her, he treated like a doormat most of the time, as he got older he became worse, right down to swiping money out of her purse and selling her stuff for booze money. Agreed, yet those "everyday dramas" are stacked FULL of social commentary.
Same here
Couldn't agree more, I do wonder when Coronation Street stopped being lighthearted
Good to see these old episodes, they didn't pay attention to the sets back then but the drama and acting superb.
Would trade bad sets and good acting over good sets and bad acting
@@jeffwelsh8030 i.e. Coronation Street today
and the batttle axes where rock hard............................. great acting
Sets show original ways of life back then
This show used to make me chuckle so much....then it stopped making me chuckle...haven’t watched it in over 10 year. 😓

I haven't watched it in 15 years, at least. I'm grateful that these older, classic episodes are available.
I stopped in 2014 pile of garbage now scripts and acting atrocious
@@charliebuttocks2400 Yes, and it's sad that such a brilliant show has deteriorated so badly.
The quality of the writing here, in terms of bluntness, humour and innuendo, is off the scale!
I miss old Corrie it was superb.. now days it’s pathetic
No it isnt,I like corrie
The old Corrie was original, funny, entertaining, relatable and genuine. The modern Corrie is centred on arguing, sex and boring story lines.
@@Lilygracehayes5318 it’s shocking compared to the classic days.

Innocent and realistic, without all the over the top unrealistic drama.
But it was always more than that... I guess all the really important social commentary went completely over your head.

Irma cracks me up! That "me mam" gets me every time I watch this. Wish she had longer in the show or could come back. Hope the actress is still alive?
Domine Wimbury
Yes Sandra Gough is still alive.

Albert Tatlock and Ena Sharples wouldn't have played ball!

Brilliant storylines, characters and excellent acting. Sadly Coronation st is complete trash now.
Its been trash since around 75.
Imo, it's been trash after Richard hillman
Not a murder, or affair in sight.

After watching these classics, one quickly realises why the show sucks today.
Apart from Roy,who’s a bit watered down now, there aren’t any believable characters now, plus stories are grim and largely unbelievable.
Put a sock in it Hilda
WHEN TONY WARREN WROTE THE SCRIPS FOR CORRIE IT MENT SOMETHING WITH HUMOUR DRAMA ENA WITH HER SHARP TOUNGE AND STAN AND HILDAS ROWS

Fancy names for a place famous for muddy puddles, cobble stones and smoky chimney stacks

Only 8 characters appeared in this episode and a rare episode with out a scene in the Rovers.
Just realised that it was a very enjoyable episode loved every character
I remember there also weren't any scenes in the Rovers, in the episode Pat Phelan died.
Yeah and isnt it better than it is now. 8 characters and every single one of them brilliantly acted,
Stan really was a lazy good for nothing, Hilda worshipped him, or should I say felt obliged to because she was married to her, he treated like a doormat most of the time, as he got older he became worse, right down to swiping money out of her purse and selling her stuff for booze money.
On screen it was great, but can you imagine living with someone like that in real life
Stan was a lazy scrounger. Hilda wanted better from life but Stan never delivered, so they ended up staying in their grotty backstreet house at No 13.
I am just happy Hilda had a good life in the end, a nice cottage in the country and a proposal from Dr Lowther.
Him and Eddie Yates were thick as thieves, Eddie was Stan when he was younger.
It's because she loved Stan and that's why she put up with him.
Sandra Gough left the show way too early, she had great lines and a perfect counter for Hilda. Didn't she come back in the late 90s, sure of it??
Were walls really that thin back then?
Technical note: genlock seems off on some camera switches
If I said to Irma Ogden does your mom remind you of Mona Lisa
