The Count of Monte Cristo is such a fulfilling book, so many great life lessons to take away and ponder....it has always stayed with me. I think the trick with harder books is to intersperse them with lighter reading. I am reading Moby Dick at the moment, but am using The Chronicles of Narnia as a palette cleanse when I get bogged down...works well for me. Thanks for the great video keep up the good work!!
I didn't realize that so many people love Monte Cristo. It has definitely been bumped up my list. Also one definitely should read Narnia in between every book they read. Thanks for support :)
I loved The Count of Monte Cristo. We all have seen or read long books. This is just a review of long books. There is a video I saw by a guy who reads classics and he gave the best tips on how to read long classics.
I read with great interest your listing, I have read all of them (or at least, thumbed/ skimmed through them or cheated with Cliff Notes in my school days, LOL!) except Les Miserables, Ana Karenina and Count of Monte Cristo (which after reading several posts below, I think I'm going to have to dig up a copy of Count and plough through it!) but I did read Dumas' 3 Musketeers, TOUCHE! May I suggest an 'odd ball' that is not on your list: 'Zen In English Literature & Oriental Classics' by the Englishman R.H. Blyth. One of my all-time favorites and truly a life-changing work! And, BTW, I notice no Dickens, Joyce, Kipling, Hemingway, Steinbeck, Bronte, Melville, Austen, Tolkien or London on your list! And if you want to read something REALLY hard, try Dancing Wu Li Masters by Gary Zukov, or Six Easy Pieces by Richard Fineman or Godel, Escher, Bach by Douglas Hofstadter! OMG! So Many Books, So Little Time! Cheers! (and Happy Reading!) massolrac 😎
I hear the Count of Monte Cristo is a thrill-ride through-and-through. It would be truly WILD if you read both the English and French versions-How cool if you told us how they feel in their differing languages!
Anything by A. Dumas shouldn't scare anyone because he writes in dialogs mainly. Well... mostly. My father has almost all of his books and I haven't read any that anyone could classify as "hard". Now War and Peace and Anna Karenina... if you firstly read Count of Montecristo and lastly Anna Karenina or War and Peace you will understand that A. Dumas is a child's play. Good luck talking that list!
The Count of Monte Cristo may be long but it is a pretty easy read otherwise, the story is great and I loved every part of it. It is one of my favorite books, I'd definitely encourage you to start it and see where it takes you!
The Odyssey takes place after the events of The Iliad, so it is kinda a sequel. But I'm sure you can read them on their own. I highly recommend reading some retellings like The Song of Achilles, Circe, Ithica, etc. They're easier to understand and they give you an idea of the general story, while focusing on some more minor characters from the original poems. The Count of Monte Cristo was such a fun read! Especially that edition since it's not abridged. Don Quixote is on my TBR. I read a few chapters and it's so funny! What I remember from it is he wants to be a Knight, but instead of a horse he rides a donkey and instead of a sword he has a stick. 😂 I want to go back and finish it sometime this year.
I read War and Peace in high school, and I have never been more proud of an accomplishment 😆 I want to read Les Miserables too so I bought a pretty copy to hype myself up about it lol Best of luck to you!
You're inspiring me to pick up a long book! I've not read much Russian literature either, but I think my next long book is 'The Brothers Karamazov' which I've started a couple times, but never finished because it's so long. Also, I love the Count of Monte Cristo, too!
The count of monte cristo is a whirlwind and even though it's long it's a the story sucks you innnnnn! You will love it and be so sad when it's over
Okay, very excited for this then. When did you read it?
@@renee_angelica read in 2020! Had a lot of time on my hands lol...

True, so many books, so little time! Thanks for the recs :)
You are such a moooood! love this challenge to get more into hard books and to support each other through it!!
I hear the Count of Monte Cristo is a thrill-ride through-and-through. It would be truly WILD if you read both the English and French versions-How cool if you told us how they feel in their differing languages!
I need to get on it then it seems haha
I am right there with you on getting those big books finished and I love that you are gonna try to read them in French as well. 🥰
You have a lovely energy, I really enjoyed hearing your thoughts on these books 😊
That's so kind :) Thank you!
Les Miserables is the most worthwhile book you will ever read. A privilege.
For Don Quixote make sure that you have good translation as there are over 20 of them.
Any particular one you recommend?

Love to hear it! Funny how my perception of the book was so off. Great news to be honest.

Thanks for the info!! Very helpful.
Everyone is raving about Monte Cristo in the comments. I think I've got to get on that one first.
@@renee_angelica the odyssey is pretty good though I would go for the og first before reading the retellings. Its fun in that big epic kind of way lol
I read War and Peace in high school, and I have never been more proud of an accomplishment 😆 I want to read Les Miserables too so I bought a pretty copy to hype myself up about it lol Best of luck to you!
An impressive feat, good work.
And that is one of my favourite strategies. Haha
apart from maybe origin of the species I believe everyboday already read these books :)
As they should!
girlie. lemme subscribe, I acc love the way you speak so softly and i can just tell u love books.
I really do
If you really want 'hard' try 'Ulysses' and 'Finnegans Wake' by James Joyce. Compared those, the ones in this video are a doddle.
Love the Odyssey!!! I’ve read it 3 times! It’s so beautiful!
Incredible! I'm really looking forward to it :)

You're making me blush. :)
And I believe in you.
I am now reading monte cristo in french. Didnt read it in english first tho
Would love to hear how it goes!
Try Thomas Hardy. Far from the Madding Crowd is good. Sad, but good.
Yes! I love Hardy. I've read a bunch of his stuff. So good
i promise that the odyssey isn't too bad. it's an epic poem, yeah, but they read like prose.
Planning to read the Iliad next month! Looking forward to It!
I think my limit was an abridged children's version of 'Black Beauty' by Anna Sewell.
I read all or most of that.
THANKS - I PUT A NEW ONE ON MY LIST;0
Which one?
Our lists are very silimiar! Wish you all the luck!! 🌿
Thank you! I'm really looking forward to getting to some.of these
I have read the first 6 pages of the first chapter of 'Beyond Good and Evil' by Friedrich Nietzsche.
I found it hard going.
Yeah, philosophy can be rough to read haha
@@renee_angelica
I would like to study philosophy at university but I have 'You Tube' for that. I am intelligent but I find some learning difficult.
Nah, you're alright.
Ditto. 😎📚👍
She seems a bit smashed...
