i honestly dont know what i would have done without khan academy.. they are without a doubt the best educational videos on youtube.. straight forward and really clear.. thanks alot
The best part of this video is the end when you get excited about the wonder of nature and the magic of life on earth. This is the love of learning that every child is born with...the same love that's usually lost by grade two, thanks to our draconian educational system. This is what Khan Academy can give back to the world; what it can give back to every child with a cellphone and an internet connection. I know you have much to say about education...and we look forward to that playlist too!
Marilley I That's not very descriptive and it wont make complete sense to someone who has never learned or retained the information of biology. So yeah no, Khan Academy is amazing
Sal is the greatest human being on this planet. You can't imagine the thrill I get when I tell a parent about Sal and his wonderful videos. This is especially apparent when I explain to a parent who has a child struggling in school. The parents never stop beaming. I am so honored to being a part of sharing the joy. Everyday I spread the word to five or ten people. They can't thank me enough. Please viewers tell everyone about khanacademy the whole world should know.
I spent 5 treacherous hours today in my summer school class to barely understand the material and fall asleep, only to be able to learn it all in 30 mins. THANK YOU KHAN ACADEMY
You sir are doing something absolutely wonderful with this, 4th year student in Engineering and everything you do is so useful. You really are making the world a better place in your own way!
@liquidstl There are 20 different kinds of amino acids. Proteins can be made up of hundred or thousands of individual amino acids (each of which is 1 of the 20 kinds)
Dear Sal, thanks as always. Just a quick note: there are around 500 naturally occurring amino acids, it all depends on the R part of course, so it's 'open'. You can even synthesise as many as you want. Isn't what you meant that 20/21 are coded by the DNA genetic code and are enough to code our proteins.
Thank u so much .. may I ask which program u've used in thes tutorials ? If u could help me cos I'm in need to do something like this in my project ..Thanks again
Trying to teach myself biology for further education. Can't imagine how I can survive without Khan Academy. Thank you for making so many education videos.
You are a great teacher, definitely gifted. Most people are able to explain things so that only people who already understand it can follow but you know how to make it translate to those of us learning.
Sal you are a legend!!! Do you know something about everything? I have watched your videos for chemistry, biology & physics!! Thank you so much. I couldn't have passed my courses without you :)
This is, without any doubt, the BEST and most useful channel on youtube. EVERYONE should be subscribed to you, and everyone should watch your videos...these are the types of video that should be "most viewed" on youtube. Its just amazing how easy it is to learn stuff from you... what i would learn in 1-2 hours from a book, i learn in 20 mins from one of your videos. Excellent! Thank you so much!
Do you know how long I have been trying to understand this! You are awesome! You should win a Nobel peace prize because your videos help peeps make peace with their scalps... you know from all the scratching and hair pulling from trying to understand stuff...!!! Really, you are doing the world a service! Thanks so much! I can only hope I can contribute as much through my volunteer work!
3 base pairs are called a codon and each codon code for one amino acid. because there are 64 codons (4*4*4) which could be made but only 20 amino acids exist, several different codons can code for one amino acid. In other words an amio acid can have several different codes which will code for it. Hope that helps.
Thanks for the vid!!! You helped me score an A on my chem test, and now your helping me with anatomy! honestly you explain everything in a clear and slow manner, and i believe your ways of teaching is very affective. THanks again
You Sir are the world's greatest teacher! You have taught more people than any professor at Yale or Oxford! 233.051.558 views on your videos? You should get a nobel prize or something! greetings from Germany
Honestly i love Khan Academy for uploading im currently a year1 IB student i slack and all (i'm a huge procasinator) and when i dont get anything in IB BIO all i do is type ini khan academy what my bullshit teacher teaches me in 2 weeks i learn in 30 minutes thank you Khan Academy
hello sir, and thank you veryyyy much for sharing these lessons, it was very helpful for me, since i am a dentist and its been too long away from biology, and as a current Msc molecular medicine student, and i don't have the time to read long texts, this video really helped me as an introduction to many things for my course. thanks again and sorry for the bad English as i am not native :)
really very interesting explanation and very useful, since I join medical collage I was never understand these complex issues of chromosomes but now with these groups of videos I started to understand the basics of this field... Thank you very much Khanacademy...
Thanks so much for this! I am in year 12 and because of illnees I've only been to about three bio classes this term and exams are next week! This is a life saver :)
Amazing Explanation! Super Simple even for someone totally uninitiated on the subject! Khan Academy is great not only to learn the topics but also to learn how to simplify the topics
You are a very good teacher. I like how you simplify things and make such complicated material so interesting! I studied this during my college days and wanted to refresh my memory and came across Khan Academy. I am so glad I did! Thank you very much for all your efforts. You are giving back plenty to the community and you will be fulfilled and blessed!
What a valuable resource. You explain the material so clearly and keep things interesting! My grades would have been much higher if we had Khan Academy back in the day. I spent many hours struggling over homework and still missing key points back then.
At 21 minutes, when you say a 50 amino acid protein needs 150 base pairs or 50 codons to be formed, isn't it really 156 base pairs or 52 codons? You need the start and stop codons...or maybe I'm overthinking it.
This is a truely amazing piece of work put together into this video... I'm attending a sort of high-school with the branch-specification bionics. I'm doing a introductery project about DNA and genes and this has absolutely gotten me into this! Thanks so much! Love from Austria! :)
How could all this complex dna coding have evolved? The structure is perfectly logical, functional and beautiful. The code is like a computer program but better: it forms complex creatures that can study and think about their own dna. Thanks for explaining the basics!
Thanks for helping a non-scientist to start to understand a very interesting subject. Now I can persevere with reading Life's Solution by Simon Conway Morris!
When you're trying to get your facts about DNA on pat for an exam on Tuesday but for some reason we're also talking about protein synthesis and alleles, which are separate topics.
Thanks soooooo much for a great video ! I have tried for such a long time to understand what the difference between alleles and genes was, and if it coded for other proteins or what ever ! Finally i get the idea and concept behind this !
Small tip: Don't mention something and then say that we're not going to go into too much detail about that topic. It just wastes time. But great video!
There is a minor fault at 1:29. The purple line should be drawn continuously in the upper part. So to indicate it is in front. and In 4:18 It would be more consistent to select the colors for the names written on the left side accordingly to the colors of the bases on the right side of the diagram.
It would be good if you could also talk about the different mutations that can occur during the replication process and what what causes these mutations. But this was a really great video and it helped me a lot, thank you.
Wonderful video. I wonder if you could do one more detailed, like describing the actual protein synthesis, with all of the different types of RNA and enzymes and stuff like that. Or maybe some recent things such as gene repression, pseudo genes, etc.
i honestly dont know what i would have done without khan academy.. they are without a doubt the best educational videos on youtube.. straight forward and really clear.. thanks alot
@Dawn Bringer we are clapping for you einstein
Its the year 2020 while in quarantine and historical revolution and this is helping me study for my MCAT. Thank you Mr.Sal
This honestly makes so much more sense when it's explained simpler, teachers always have to be so over complicated
+Abbie Howe my mother is my teacher, so I cant really relate. XD

The 66 people who disliked this video are just in denial or jealous of his simplistic teaching that allows one to be astonished in many ways.
it's 221 now...
The mumbling is really unnecessary sometimes and distracting. Other than that it's very good
@@Cass_i And that's worth a dislike in your opinion??
@@queensaharaice7376 No. I'm noting something that could be the reason for the dislikes.
It’s 266 now. 200 more exactly
You will never know how much you have helped me.
In college and his videos are really helping me understand things better than a teacher just reading off a power point slides. good job
I love you Mr. Sal, every time I click a Khan Academy video it comforts me when I hear your voice in the most non creepy or weird way.
DNA wasn't solely Francis and Crick's discovery. The rest of the lesson was wonderful 🙌
"If you have something good to say, it shouldn't take you that long to say it." Goes on to make 28 minute video on DNA. Well done Khan
Can you describe DNA within 5 minutes?
Building blocks of life. Bam.
Marilley I That's not very descriptive and it wont make complete sense to someone who has never learned or retained the information of biology. So yeah no, Khan Academy is amazing
TaelurAlexis I'm not debating Khan is good and useful, I just answered your question. You're welcome.
Marilley I carbon is the building blocks of life though :) DNA is like the recipe

I’m just finishing my biology of the cell course in the university and your videos are perfect for my exam study thank you!
I have learned more from these videos than my entire life in school, so far (year 11)! Thank you so much for your time and effort!
Trying to teach myself biology for further education. Can't imagine how I can survive without Khan Academy. Thank you for making so many education videos.
omg... I cannot learn from anyone besides you, I am bout to cry, thank you so much!
"me and that plant, we may share the same root of DNA" was that a pun?

Would you be able to make a video specifically about translation and transcription?
#kingkarlos just ko through khan academy app... And search for this video u will get the transcript
There is dude. Search it up. You can also go to website and app as nandini sharma was saying
Now I see people replying to it 6 years later & suggesting 😂
@@sajanakhadka2906 haha if only they suggested it 6 years ago when i was studying

I AM IN LOVE WITH KHAN ACADEMY.
Sooo much easier to understand than my actual teacher!! 10/10
you teach better than my biology teacher..i literally just watch all your videos before my tests and it helps more than enough.. thank you
I finally found some videos that can help through my Junior year! My father showed me this and I loved it! Thank you for making this video!
You make wonderful videos! The mitosis and meiosis videos helped me get through my exam.

this is by far the most simplified version of something so difficult..thank you soo much
This is so helpful, I am not in school but I find learning this stuff mind blowing, and you make it as easy as possible. Thank you.

That was funny. "If you have something good to say, it should take you that long to say it." HAHAHAHA.
Nice video,I especially liked the part where you explained why diseases that manifest later on in life are so prevalent.Thank you.
most helpful video on the ENTIRE internet!
