    Where have you been all my life I have had a fascination over pop ups. I began making cards about 4 years ago using a craft knife but didn't know these principals of the mechanisms. I have watched your tutorials over the last few days and have ordered your book. Thanks so very much! Is there a trick to sizing elements or is it trial an error?

    • @thepop-upchannel4919
      @thepop-upchannel4919  7 лет назад +6

      Sizing elements? No trick that I know of. If something's a little big one can often just cut a bit off, (easiest with scissors rather than craft knife). Usually for a complex pop-up it is necessary to make a dummy one first too work out the best angles and dimensions so sizing would be worked out then, Have fun!

      Things haven't gone according to plan with the publishers - so the book is delayed. Sorry about that. However I will be putting another series of tutorials on You Tube fairly soon.

    Thank you very much, Mr. Birmingham. I love your videos which make things much more easier. But I have a question here: In the example "The Wonder Wizard of Oz ", can we simply apply the mechanism you've introduced in tutorial 12 since it looks like a floating plane? Or it must be done by this way? Thank you for your reply.:)

      If it looks like a Floating Plane it probably is - that's quite a common mechanism.....I'm not sure which pop-up in the Wizard of Oz you're referring to? If you say which page and what the design is I can probably tell you.

      The Pop-Up Channel It's on the last page which you shown us at 1:30 in this video, sir. There are 45-degree folds, but I am wondering if it is okay to apply the mechanism you explained in Tutorial 12 instead of 45-degree folds? I feel like the effect here looks the same as floating planes, but maybe I was wrong. In fact, I have the same question about the example of "Nursery Rhythms". The Humpty Dumpty was raised by the v-fold which is hidden in the left page, is it connected with 45-degree folds structure? (It's not very obvious in the video.) If not, can we apply different mechanism but remain the effect? I am just a bit curious.:") Thanks for your kindness.

      The mechanism used in Tutorial 12 and the way the 45-degree fold is used at 1.30 in the video are both ways of building a floating plane above - and parallel to - the page. The two mechanisms have obvious different qualities - advantages and disadvantages. Probably the best way for you to advance your understanding is to experiment - make small models to see how things work before you build them into a complex finished pop-up spread.

    Consistently I'm frustrated that you don't think to show the open close action of the cards. For me at least I get a lot of understanding from that. Opening and closing them for the camera.
    Thank you sir sounds these great videos! I checked out your book from my library!

    In fact, I download the videos of this page and I see them again and
    again, but I am interested in high constructions, but it is very
    difficult to find information of this, I served the video I uploaded of
    how to make towers, I was able to create a card with a Exponential
    elevation, but I want to learn how to tell you how to make mechanisms in
    the heights, like the Frozen Rapuncel tower, I think it's difficult for
    me to buy books at the moment, the Mexican economy is very bad, here we
    pay 22 pesos per Dollar, politically we are very bad and Donal Trump is
    already beginning to affect us negatively with his policy, I think I
    will stop with this for a while. Thanks for your help...Greetings.

    Creative works :D i really would love to know how the lotus flowers in 0.11 sec were made, can you please explain it.

    • @thepop-upchannel4919
      @thepop-upchannel4919  7 лет назад +5

      The underlying structure is the Strap Tutorial 9 (Raising Pop-ups off Centre). The actual flowers are made using a variation of the mechanism explained in Tutorial 28 (Parallel-Fold Action). If this seems too fiddly then Tutorial 12 (The Floating Plane) can be used to produce a very similar effect. Finally the multiple layers of petals are made using the technique explained in Tutorial 18 (Open Topped Shapes) at 6.18.I hope this helps.
