They technically went 25 episodes, 1-4 was one long premiere on Japan's evening movie slot. Families gather for that TV slot. Which is why ep 5 starts with a summary recap.
Yeah, I skipped it for half the season. I thought, "Uh. Another isekai..." Until I heard people gushing about it, and then I thought, "Meh. I'll watch one episode..." And I binged 12 episodes. I seriously think it's one of the best anime of all time.
