    This is great! I am curious about radiation exposure to the hand. I’ve looked into It to see how much our hands are getting from holding the rinn, but I haven’t had any luck in finding any info. I also have to hold the rinn on almost all fmx patients. Would you happen to know if the amount of radiation we are getting to our hands is a harmful amount? -RDH for 7+ years ❤

      I have the same question and can’t find true information about it. The other DAs where I just got hired all hold the ring and someone is directly in front of the machine. There’s no way that can be good, right? I’m concerned

    • @dt2trang
      @dt2trang 2 месяца назад

      Don’t hold it. Tell the pt. To hold it. Show the pt how to hold it first. Because this is what I do for 34 yrs.

    I love this video although I worry about the exposure you put yourself at risk for since you are in the room more often than the patients. If your hand is in front of the orange ring you risk exposure. Also, from experience I started to wear a apron shield as well because it started to affect my thyroid. Just something to think about. Don’t worry so much about speed because if you fall sick they won’t care much but it’s your life you need to worry about. It takes a radiologist longer than five minutes to take one x-ray and they are well protected. That’s the concern that all are at less risk of unnecessary exposure.

    • @noeliagarcia2281
      @noeliagarcia2281 Год назад

      When you say you wear an apron shield you wear the pt one? I’m been starting to think about this too

    • @Beshashem
      @Beshashem Год назад +3

      @@noeliagarcia2281 yep I wear a shield and the patient does too although they say it’s safe not to. Only get one body. I’d rather not risk it anymore and ever since we switched to the hand held x-ray gun I’ve had thyroid issues. Asked my doctor if she thought it could be a cause and she grinned and said, “I would wear a shield” so that’s what I’m doing lol.

    • @kataleopa
      @kataleopa Год назад +2

      You can also wear a dosimeter badge and see how much radiation you are getting

    • @Beshashem
      @Beshashem Год назад +2

      @@kataleopa I do wear one. Radiation is radiation especially if you are the one always taking the x-rays with the handheld x-ray gun. I’ll continue to listen to my doctor and wear the shield along with requiring the patient to wear one as well. We are exposed to radiation in other ways too so if we are exposing ourselves to it at work we aren’t getting the correct exposure levels so better to be safe than sorry. We only have one body. This isn’t to pressure anyone else just something to consider.

    • @LaRenaEasterly
      @LaRenaEasterly Год назад +1

      When using the nomad you do not need to wear the apron. Your microwave at home gives off more radiation than the nomad. The clear ring around it is there to protect from any scattered radiation which is why it’s called the backscatter shield. Look up the zone of protection while using it. Look into how much stuff has radiation that you wouldn’t think did. We are surrounded by it. That nomad is safe as could be!

    This is so useful! Thank you so much. I have a question though. Keeping your hand there while holding the ring to the patients mouth, doesn’t that keep your hand out of the zone of protection though? I’m curious because I do it too and I want to make sure I have maximum protection at all times 😁

    • @KaleshaMonet
      @KaleshaMonet  2 года назад

      It does! It’s best to remain behind the shield of the nomad to stay protected! For a piece of mind, you can also get a radiation detector and wear it!

    Great instructional video .
    For those worrying about non wear of lead apron , the modern dental xrays like the Nomad and other handheld dental xrays have a more concerntrated collimation ( x ray beam restriction) that the resulting xray beam, if machine is used properly, is targetted or limited only to the structures examined within or about the boundaries of the xray film. Backscatter exposure is prevented by the shield in the machine and minimizes the exposure to 1/100th of the annual maximum occupational safety requirememt set by the government .Furthermore the radiation emitted is negligible that the use of lead aprons has been deemed unecessary . The amount of radiation to cause infertility is more than 100x that emmitted by a single xray beam. It would take more than 700x radiation exposure from a panoramic xray to increase the chance to develop thyroid cancer which also negates the need for thyroid collar against intermal scatter . Overall , modern dental xray machines are safer than those used 50 or so years ago when the safety regulations where imposed .
