Honestly. If I had one of these cars that makes headlight maintenance so difficult, when the bulb went I'd cut the front of the lamp off with a rotary tool, remove the old bulb, and just wire in a replacement bulb of whatever kind I liked, then glue the front back on. This stuff is all completely insane. It's an electric light. It should never be this difficult.
BUT for anyone who wants to do the 'correct' fix, this video has got to be an invaluable aid, and you are a hero for doing this, filming it, and explaining it. My father has this same car, and the dealership wanted like $300 to replace the bulb, although fortunately he found a garage that would do it for half of that. And for modern cars, this isn't even bad.

      Shoot I appreciate that:)
As for modifying, no need to. Once that o ring is lubed, changes will be easy for the rest of the life of the car. It solves the issue 100%

This is a very useful video. The HID bulb replacement in a 2nd gen prius is one of the more elaborate bulb replacement procedures but the ownership of a Gen 2 makes it worthwhile. I got lucky and came across a 2008 touring model during the pandemic and I still look forward to driving it everyday! Toyota advertised its Touring model as having a "European style" suspension. I don't know what exactly that means, but I've driven many types of vehicles over the past decades and I just have to say that the Gen 2 Prius is the most fun for me.

      Thank you!
Toyotas Early 2000’s “sport” suspensions were just a little stiffer. Today everything they make seems to be. In the 1990s there cars rode like American cars - Buick etc. just not sloppy if that
Makes sense. A gen2 touring prius is very cool. Especially with the 16” wheels :)

The Prius is a great car, but getting to the HID bulbs to change them really can be a bear. I've done the job three times, but by now most of my rear cover tabs have been snapped off after I banged and pushed on them. If you want to attempt the job without removing the headlights, wear gloves and try slow and steady pressure on the cover. With my mangled covers and 240,000 miles on the car, I need to pull the bumper.

Drew I got a rattle or throbbing noise under hard acceleration on steep hills, almost like gurgling from the right side of the engine (on a European left hand drive)

I went led and changed the wiring....no more HID. Also I went thru the bumper and needed new assemblies anyhow.

I feel you. The hid aren’t bad if they can be maintained, hence this video. How do you like the LED?

@@timothycreamer8610shoot I just don’t think deleting them is the way to go. They are worth having when they work - and when they don’t work, they are cheap and easy to fix. I don’t mind them at all
