This works SO MUCH BETTER if you're running Expanded Stellaris traditions mod.
Before they even introduced Orbital rings, planetary ascension or buffs to defensive playstyle, you could've built a solid strategy off just you know... building stations and making them extremely hard to kill. Since some of the traditions give massive boosts to weapon range and also defensive/offensive capabilities of your stations and defense platforms.

      NSC also helps
the armor modules give armor repair per day and the paradox recently fixed in-battle regen to actually work, so the poor AI keeps tossing fleet after fleet at my stations which endlessly vomit out more fighters as they struggle to even get to my station's hull, which not only has faster regen than my armor but like triple the hp.

someone make a mod that adds the vernox mandate as a fallen empire, as clearly they survived a galactic cycle they qualify, and give them some custom modifiers that prevent ship building and buff the hell out of starbases.

I've done a similar play through recently where I got brainslugs as a ravenous hivemind w/ progenitor hive origin and crystal forged plating. I created fleets of destroyers armed with swarmer and marauder missiles, with a hit and run war doctrine. My fortress stations keep the enemy helplessly deadlocked in their advance, whilst my high evasion, stocky destroyers gradually chip away at them. They'll lose battles, but with minimal losses, quickly and easily replaced, while my enemy suffers moderate, to heavy losses. In the end, the whole galaxy works tirelessly, without end to try and destroy me, as I become the crisis, but are unable to do enough damage to my fleets, while suffering horrific losses, with nothing gained. Surprisingly, no colossal ship types have been used against me, beyond what an awakened empire initially brought. It was never able to fire, and I believe my victory is assured so long as none are ever permitted to fire upon my fortress stations.

Terraforming as many planets in chokepoints to get Orbital Rings sounds dope

@@blazikem thought I replied to this awhile back but guess not, there is a mod that lets you do that, they will rebuild any starbases you lose after a fight. But if you lose a heavily defended point it’s a pain to get it back

I play like this until around 2250/60 when I get battleships. I let the ai declare war on me (if theyre hostile) or just wait until the Khan/nanites spawn and then I go from a mid-tier power at best to the custodian with everyone wanting to be a vassal. Its hilarious

So for him, someone immobil become part of the picture, and so almost invisible.
Ps : I really love the full package of storytelling you do, for each video ❤ It's fun, give life to it, and so much better 👍
