Great ! I love your song ! Congratulations ! My grandfather was an underground minor in Asturias, north of Spain, before Second World War. He didn't die in mine, but under Franco's regime torture... So your songs speaks to me... Thanks from France. Andrés Roces
The only thing wrong is it was toooo short. Wish it was 3 hr 47 min instead of 3:47. I've played it a hundred times since I received it from another Buttian. Thanks Solas. Words can't describe how true and deep in the heart your lyrics run.
FANTASTIC! This song is the truth! My hometown. Thank you for honoring the town and it's people with such a wonderful blend of Irish music and words that spoke the life that was lived. Tap 'er light!
I can't listen to this song without getting watery eyes and a shiver down my spine. This is incredibly beautiful and captures so much of Butte's Irish heritage and the hard rock mining culture in a stunningly spiritual ballad. Richest blessings.
I love this band, love this track, dear God, how much I would like to see them LIVE in Butte at the Irish music festival, my life would be complete. What a great project. " Today ain't gonna be the day I die"...
Oh hell yeah! Still as great as ever. Winne, Seamus, Mick the whole group are legends and love their music and the band to pieces! Fab tune! First note and I was already dancing!
Saw em' live in Wyoming (which was a perfect venue for this album given its content) and got to meet them afterwards. The songs were great, they were great people, and I'll never forget it.
Just saw this incredible band at the Great American Irish Festival in Frankfort N.Y. They were absolutely incredible. My brother and I both attended and were completely blown away. Musicians were terrific and the Vocals were mezmerizing. I'm just hoping they come back next year, I can't wait!!!!!!!
I've never been into folk much but I heard this on radio 2 last night and I had to pull over and take the details down of the band and the song. Fantastic! Checking out other songs by Solas too!
Seven years a miner, and mine for seven more No better man on earth now to move a mountain floor So load us in the chippy the trucks down every day No braver man on earth boys no matter what they say So tell god and the devil they can try But today's not gonna be the day we die Don't want to see those helmet men come to carry you The ground's so cold and hard above they won't even bury you So tap tap tapper lightly slightly as she goes You better take some cover now and hide before she blows Get those bricks and shovels of your backs Get the rocks into the box and down the tracks There's muckers and there's skinners and nippers on the drill They work all day and night boys as only miners will Will chase rebellious copper the walls you pick and hack Don't worry if your digging scared, us miners got your back So tell God and the Devil they can try But today's not gonna be the day we die The Gods don't verture down here, the Devil's lost your name Your life hangs in the balance on this fragile human chain And when your spirits waning the fear is yours to tame When you feel the darkness closing turn up your carbide flame And tell God and the Devil they can try But today's not gonna be the day we die So tell God and the Devil they can try But today's not gonna be the day we die
I know! Have you ever heard there song sorry, that runs even deeper, and that is hard for the lyrics to beat such an amazing song such as this... but Solas, they are always sooo amazing!
Read the awards they will give you id u donate! One is a Skype lesson with a band member and if you donate more than $10,000 they perform a personal concert at your house! Ahhhh! OMG I want that so bad! Will give them loads of money! It's a brilliant project and need support :) So proud of them! Legends!
Lucky you. I'd have loved to have seen them at Wintergrass, but moved far away last year. We did get to see Karan Casey just recently. She was wonderful.
I saw them at a festival, and I was so happy when they played this song because when they played this song at a concert all I wanted to do was to get up and dance, but that would be weird, and I have a good reason to only dance at night when there is a big crowd of people around me because I can't dance. It's sad how much I fail.
I believe they are debuting this album At Celtic Connections, Glasgow, Jan 18th, hope to be there. "For God & the devil they can try, but today's not going to be the day we die" (unless I can't get a ticket).
Saw them at the Grass Roots Festival in Trumansburg, NY in early 2000s (maybe 2004?). Great songs and great musicians. One of the best shows I've ever witnessed.

Saw them on this tour (and a few other times) Amazing band. If you ever get the chance to see them live, DO IT.
Maybe the greatest band there ever was. And Shamrock City was a true masterpiece of an album.
Saw em' live in Wyoming (which was a perfect venue for this album given its content) and got to meet them afterwards. The songs were great, they were great people, and I'll never forget it.

Can't wait to see them here in Butte! Have to have this album!
instablaster.
I am so pumped for this album - this song reminds me of a more Celtic version of Spanish Train by Chris de Burgh.

Seven years a miner, and mine for seven more
No better man on earth now to move a mountain floor
So load us in the chippy the trucks down every day
No braver man on earth boys no matter what they say
So tell god and the devil they can try
But today's not gonna be the day we die
Don't want to see those helmet men come to carry you
The ground's so cold and hard above they won't even bury you
So tap tap tapper lightly slightly as she goes
You better take some cover now and hide before she blows
Get those bricks and shovels of your backs
Get the rocks into the box and down the tracks
There's muckers and there's skinners and nippers on the drill
They work all day and night boys as only miners will
Will chase rebellious copper the walls you pick and hack
Don't worry if your digging scared, us miners got your back
So tell God and the Devil they can try
But today's not gonna be the day we die
The Gods don't verture down here, the Devil's lost your name
Your life hangs in the balance on this fragile human chain
And when your spirits waning the fear is yours to tame
When you feel the darkness closing turn up your carbide flame
And tell God and the Devil they can try
But today's not gonna be the day we die
So tell God and the Devil they can try
But today's not gonna be the day we die

Good tune, it contributes to the mythification of Butte's heroic past.

Caught your Friday set at Wintergrass; great job through and through - this song in particular caught my ear.
Lucky you. I'd have loved to have seen them at Wintergrass, but moved far away last year. We did get to see Karan Casey just recently. She was wonderful.
Appeals to my Cork heritage❤
Very nice! Well done. Now that is some fine music. --Greg BPG
I am really excited for this album.
They are so good.

Amazing band. Saw them live three times. I wish they hadn't called it quits.
Saw them at the Grass Roots Festival in Trumansburg, NY in early 2000s (maybe 2004?). Great songs and great musicians. One of the best shows I've ever witnessed.
