Yet most physical games require Day 1 patches to even be able to be played, not to mention ALL of the post-launch DLC and patches Once those servers are shutdown for good, if you haven't gotten everything on time, then they become unplayable
What you are failing to say about The Crew is that Ubisoft have deactivated the ENTIRE SINGLE PLAYER campaign! I totally get them shutting down the multiplayer servers. People move on, sequels made, etc, but stopping me from playing the game on my own, from a physical disc is absolutely unacceptable! DriveClub was removed from the store, its DLC was, its Devs, Evolution, were shut down but guess what? I can still play the game from the disc.
@@Devilsblight86 I has and I'm very grateful for it, I just don't think that is the main reason why it exists. Game preservation is just a really good side effect.
Remember buying a physical game and the music was on the disc forever? Good times. The copyright BS needs to f#@* off. If you give permission to use it, let it remain indefinitely.
You still need to use the original system and not patch it, Xbox One could play GTA IV via BC, they actually patched out some of the music tracks once the license had expired.
I was heartbroken when I heard "Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time" was removed from digital stores but I was very lucky enough to redownload it again like around the early December before the game was removed on my PS4 console.
I bought "Spec Ops the Line" in July 2023 on Mercari for $18.07 before it got delisted from digital stores and before the price went up. I remember when The Crew was delisted from digital stores and the chaos that resulted afterward, Ubisoft is digging their holes deeper and deeper. 😮 I bought a lot of stuff on the Xbox 360 Marketplace before it closed. RIP X360 Marketplace [2005-2024]
I really did like Xdefiant. I dropped Apex Legends for it. Gunplay felt good and it was pretty fast paced. I am sad to see it go but I’m going to keep playing until the shut the severs down. That being said, I hope these game makers realize the importance of single player games and stop pushing live service. We are over saturated at this point.
@@TheNickellis Then how would Bethesda sell us 10 copies of Skyrim over the various consoles and console generations we've owned since 2011. Or Rockstar with Red Dead or GTA V. I don't even think you can call yourself a gamer if you don't have a few copies of Skyrim and half a dozen GTAs lying around somewhere. I'm not even a RDR fan and I've managed somehow to accumulate 3 physical copies and digital versions on current gen consoles.
still have my og PS3 disc for generations. I'll say this in defense of concord. if it wasn't a hero shooter, but a regular fps with a good story i'd have given it a chance.
The problem with the crew is not that it was delisted, it's that Ubisoft removed the game from the library from all the people who acquired the game. Total opposite of what Microsoft did giving permanent access to those with active gamepass sub and had played FH4 and still after delisting they have kept their online features, FH3 has been delisted for years and still have online servers with average 600 players!
I’m glad I didn’t pay money on XDefiant’s cosmetics. I did like the game, but I deleted it shortly after I got Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6. And I knew that the original Sonic Generations was getting delisted due to Sonic X Shadow Generations coming out. Also, I think people wanted Sonic Generations to run at 60FPS, and the remaster thankfully does that. Also, you can find Chao now in missions.
When i'm thinking about video games that died in 2024 then Xdefiant and Concord, defienitily Concord coming to my mind. Concord borned in 2024 and died in 2024 only 2 weeks after launch what's insane that I've never seen before!
I think I still have a digital copy of the first game on my PS3. IIRC they gave it away as a sorry for a data breach or outage or something or other, had a choice between a couple of games and picked up sackboy.
Oooh you didn't mention a bunch of classic Sega games being delisted on Steam in December 2024 & some classic Sega games ported to Xbox 360 games like Altered Beast ToeJam and Earl Golden Axe & Sega Genesis Classics being delisted from Microsoft Store on Xbox One & Xbox Series X as of December 2024
Some of us did care about the Xbox 360 marketplace shutdown. As it had a lot of great games that were digital only Some of them are now only available as part of Xbox pass. While others will be lost the time both good and bad.
Also he used some pretty bad examples Spec Ops was available and BC on Xbone and Series X/S until delisting so people had 12 frigging years to play it. Prototype is still on the Xbox Marketplace, and obviously BC. People always whine about things like this when they are told they can't have it anymore. They can't seem to figure out that regardless of how big the company is, they aren't going to run servers forever to cater to a handful of people who might want to play a decade old game on it's original hardware.
In some cases delisting means not available for sale. If you bought it digitally you might still be able to redownload it. I can still download Spec Ops on current gen Xbox, Ditto with unlisted Oblivion DLC.
This is why I stopped playing modern video games. You pay $70 and can lose the game anytime the studio decides. I’ll be able to (theoretically) play my $50 XBox 360 games until the sun burns out. Gaming these days is just a mess.
I bought Prototype 1+2 a couple of weeks ago on the Xbox store it's BC on Xbone and Series X/S and still available. I did pick up Spec Ops before it was delisted. I support being able to play games you bought and own, but console makers are under no obligation to support backwards compatibility especially given how drastically their technology changes. These games lost via the Xbox 360 storefront are over a decade old, if you haven't already played them you would likely never have played them, it's only FOMO that has pushed people to buy them at the last second. The Crew, I mean such a uproar about Ubisoft, Again the game is a decade old, relied on an online component and hasn't reached 200 players in half a decade. Jesus, people getting butt hurt over something that should have been put out of it's misery years ago. While an offline patch might have been nice for those half a dozen people who genuinely care about the game, it's totally unreasonable to expect Ubisoft to do that. The long term solution isn't buying old physical copies, or digital copies, or older hardware to run the games, it's going to be emulation that preserves our beloved games. Even if I won the lottery I'm never going to shell out for an original NES or SNES, why would I when I have the mini versions filled with pretty much the entire back catalog of games for those systems.
If you ask me, if a game developer wants to make a server based online game that will always eventually die in the future. When the game servers die, then the game developers should have to supply full refunds to everyone who bought the game in the first place. If you're giving up on the game, then give us our money back...🤔
They supported the game when it didn't even reach 200 players online for over half a decade. They should maybe supply an offline mode patch if offline mode exists. If you buy a game with online mode it's going to eventually die, The issue isn't about the 100 people who played the game, it's about them not allowing offline campaign to continue. In respect to the Crew, Ubisoft supported the game way beyond any reasonable expectation, and if you buy an online game that eventually dies, maybe sue the players who quit the game and forced the devs to pull the plug.
