Please do not repeat hiring another G5 coach. The head coach should have previous head coach experience in P5 or P4 conferences. Hopefully the hire will have offense, defense and special teams coaches to bring along with them.
I think it is less likely that happens now because of NIL recruiting and retention. Need somebody who has been navigating in that world even just as a coordinator or assistant.
Couz, when we're good, we run the ball quite a bit and we have a scrambling QB. I like the long pass, too, but Mountaineer success is usually made on the ground. We've usually had a good pass rush in our best years.
Jajuan Seider will be the coach. Wvu ex coach, well thought of, great recruiter, now asst coach at Penn State. Few remember him, but coaches remember him that were tied to wvu
I hope Nick Saban recommends Glenn Schumann to Wren Baker. He is literally the lightning in a bottle candidate who will be very successful wherever he goes. I’ve heard sportscasters say he is Dan Lanning #2.
Hey Couz, what about Chris Peterson? I know he retired, but he would be worth a shout-out. He built up Boise St. & rebuilt Washington before retirement. If you could convince him to coach again, he would be Homerun hire for both WVU & the Big12. He recruits, develops talent, & puts players in the NFL. It would be worth a phone call just to gage some interest.
I don't see any of those candidates really been what West Virginia needs or wants. I still think Jimbo Fisher is probably the obvious choice I think if he wants the job he's got it. If Baker passes on Jimbo and the next coach doesn't work out well bakers going to be fired under the next president really fast. Plus if Jimbo goes to UNC or somewhere and does well right off it's going to look bad on WVU. Like I said if Jimbo Fisher or Nick Saban wants the job that discussions over. Unless we can't afford them. That's the only reason experience is everything.
Honestly, between Wren’s decision making and the oversight of Nick Saban, probably the greatest college coach of all time, I feel really good about whoever they choose.
WV fans want someone with strong university ties. I agree, but that narrow the field. People need to read the book THREE AND OUT about RR. He got shafted by WVU and Michigan. He's the ideal choice. However, there are some other good candidates, but I think Wren Baker will make the best one. I'd love to see RR get another run though. He's a true Blue and Gold man. Watch his recent interview on Pac Man Jone's show. Watch Jackson State play Friday. Dudes a winner, period.
Anthony Becht NIL isn't a big deal , if you are smart enough to play pro football , and have coaching experience, he can get players and NiL isn't a perfect science ! Neal Brown proved that , those d backs weren't who he thought they were ! He didn't give half other guys enough playing time to see either , my opinion! Wren has done excellent job finding the right coach , I have faith he will on this one !
What do you think about Andy konecky and possibly maybe Clinton trick it as your offensive coordinator or maybe Graham Harold and maybe someone else as you defensive coordinator and hopefully the defensive coordinator is a little better than the last one
We should go after Chris Marve, the DC at Virginia Tech. He'd be a good face for the program. We can afford him. He's got 11 years of experience as a collegiate coach. We need to focus on the defensive side of the ball. Defensive players will be cheaper NIL wise. We can build a culture around being the toughest defensive team in the Big 12.
Out of that list you have today, I would choose Shumann. I do think Kotelnicki would overall be the best pickup with his style of offense. On current head coaches, I would go for RR. Maybe not the fan favorite and I understand the pushback, but he did have one of the best of best era's in WVU history.
WVU'S 2025 recruiting class improved after the firing?so they've already agreed to hire somebody who is known for winning/nfl/etc..,and has time to call commits obviously. Whoever it is must be big time.
I think Wren might take a look at Becht with his management of a pro roster. The game has changed and that might bring some value and experience that other coaches don’t have.
Not a big WV fan, but with some of things the make WV a struggle. They should look for an experience power 4/5 coach. Been there, done that. WV seems like a unique school. Inexperience might not work well there.
I don't think WVU could afford Chadwell. WVU still has Brown's buyout and Chadwell is making $4+ million at Liberty a year. Plus like they did when Hugh Freeze left Liberty could extend Chadwell's contract and increase the amount they were paying him to make the buyout balloon. Liberty made like $40 million off Auburn for Freeze's buyout.
If Albin coached under Solich trust me he knows coaching. I drove Motorcoach for them while Tyler Tettleton was the QB at Ohio and they were ranked in the top 25 at one point during those 3 years I drove for them. I think he will also consult a ton with Kirby about any potential job offers/openings, and if Kirby thinks he could get something bigger/better in the near future, then Shumann would turn the offers down....and just wait. Just my take on what i think Shumann is wanting.
