I think we undersestimate old machines all the time. People used to work on these things back in the day, you know? They were not toys. I'm watching this on my X301 with SU9600 Core 2 Duo 1.6 GHz, 8GB of RAM, 400GB SSD and Windows 10. Pretty smooth with some optimization.
A visible difference between the R60 and the R60e seems to be that the R60e doesn't have a trackpad. It has only the red ThinkPad nub as a native cursor steering input device.
Hey I'm still rocking this R60, running on windows 7 Ultimate with 3GB ram and 120GB SSD, actually it's exceptionally fast, using mostly for office 2010 and classic games like Midtown Madness, Sega Rally, roller coaster tycoon, commandos and damn even serious sam 2 for lan play with my little bro haha, love this thing❤️
I stil using my T61 today, My upgtrades was 4Gb DDR2 ant SSD, my thinkpad have Nvidia Quadro NVS 140M and i can watch youtube videos very well, thats running archlinux with nvidia-340xx driver
R60 can be installed with 2x 2GB ddr2 but sadly the chipset only support max of 3GB, even if the windows show 4GB but in the bracket it shows 2.99GB usable only and don't even bother installing win 10 in this, core 2 duo is painfully slow for windows 10
you can actually get the 32bit versions of windows 10 if you still wanted to use that, its an option when downloading the installation media from the website
I'm typing on a Lenovo ThinkPad R400 laptop with a C2D 2.53GHz, 2GB RAM and GMA 4500MHD graphics . It's as much usable in Windows 10 32 bits than on a Windows 7 32 bits imo, although if you're going to play Microsoft Store games like Candy Crush Saga, it's pretty much unplayable due of the graphical glitches from the graphic card. The battery life is still a beast and build is great.
Upgraded my R60 to T7400 cpu, 128gb SSD and 4gb RAM (only 3gb is usable btw). Win10 pro runs smoothly, the only problem is that today's websites are too heavy on resources and the machine becomes very slow, specially while watching RUclips or opening large PDF files.
@@MikeDancy I dumped Windows 10 and installed Linux Mint 21.3 on my R60, things suddenly become better, RUclips website is more responsible and I can now open a huge 150MB PDF file without problem. The best thing is that after the start Linux only uses about 750MB of RAM, that would be twice as much if using Windows 10.
Yeah my T61 is a Core 2 Duo and surprisingly it runs Win 11 Pro really well. Works so well that it is my main machine right now with no issues. Do these things even die?
Great laptops these - In my tech role I purchased loads of these for 'normal' members of staff, managers got the T series and directors got the X series :)
Nice laptops the ibm models i have an old t21 800 mhz pentium 3 and i was given a t30 a p4 machine though i think it is a rebranded acer machine if i remember right .
Intel T2500 cpu is "Core duo" 32bit, not "Core2 duo" which is 64 bit. R60 should be capable of being upgraded to core2 duo and 64 bit. Nothing wrong with continuing to use very old thinkpad which has at least 4Gb ram capacity and SSD drive. My favorite machine is R61 with 15.4 inch screen and earns it's keep by keeping me productive.
i just upgrade mine to Core 2 Duo T7200 and yes it can run 64bit os but don't install windows 10 because everything with core 2 duo is painfully slow on windows 10
@@ykm15282 Ive ran the long term support branch on a virtual machine on my i5-8250u with only 2 cores and it was pretty responsive, just setup an old dell with core 2 duo t7250 with linux mint but since it has 2 cores and 4gb of ram I actually wanna give windows 10 ltsb a go. There is no SSD in it at the moment though which is kinda painful.
Sir but there is a problem this is just 32 bit and 1gb ram and i am using visual Studio it will only work on 64 bit and i am sure doesn't work on one gb ram If there is any other coding area would please recommend me Or can we increase performance? Hope you reply🙏🙏 It is even taking minutes to load even chrome so i am not sure with what you said
@@MikeDancy I have been looking at an old ThinkPad as a simple laptop solution to replace my totally unreliable Fujitsu Lifebook. If you upgraded the processor and maxed the RAM to 4GB it would run Mint well I bet.

the x301! that's a rare machine. Laptop Retrospectives has a review on that machine.

i recently got a T400 running nicely with windows 10 pro on an ssd, core2duo's still have life in them yet! nice vid dude!
edit: RIP!
Thanks for watching the WHOLE thing :)
@@MikeDancy sorry, got excited!
Some of the core2duo,s are still quite fast machines

yeah, with a bit of love, it can be a nice machine.

yeah, it's a good machine. Once you update the HDD to a SSD and add some more ram as well as linux then it really shines.

64 bit also works fine its my daily driver

It might be faster with a SSD and 8gb ram

I mostly do PXE installs for machines but I agree 100% having optical versions for machines, especially with Win10, come in handy

Nostalgia :)
Sometimes the CMOS battery being low/dead can cause that fan error to come up erroneously, happens on many generations of the IBM era ThinkPads

the core 2 duo is a very universal processor it can windows xp and windows 10 flawlessly

why not use Linux and notepad? visual studio uses too much CPU
