Raided the wife’s make up box and she had some packs of those sponge type brushes. They are fantastic on armour kits even better that a pack of brushes were a quid in Poundland for about 20 in a pack.
Ooooh! Yes I bet Gundam painters would find that size more useful! I only have the occasional dragon that would be big enough. Most the time my minis are way too small
That’s a good question. So far I’ve just rinsed it in water. Which is all I ever do with any of my brushes. If that’s not good, these wouldn’t be the brushes for me!
Sorry! I’ve just been cleaning them like I normally would. I feel like they will last longer than normal ones but I’m a little concerned too - obviously could try using brush soaps?
I hit everywhere I aimed on this quick test, but I’m with you, it feels a bit too big. I’ll test it out as soon as I can with something that needs some precision dry brushing
I may try these despite them being Army painter brushes which are normally utter garbage, especially the Psycho and those around there, but I need a few more reviews to justify trying hem over my makeup brushes.
So far so good, BUT, I’ve not used them very much - I’ve just had a baby so the amount of painting I’m doing is very limited at the moment. I’ve enjoyed the few times I’ve used them but not hammered them enough yet
Being how affordably priced these will be, compared to others, I'll quickly add them to my arsenal and compare them with what I currently use. Eventually, I *might* get the AO Series D brushes, but the price tag's a lot to swallow. I will say, though, that I have some Series S brushes and LOVE them, so I'm still a bit on the fence, really. One thing that does make a difference, though, isn't with the brushes themselves, but with the dabbing sponge. If you watch the AO Series D video(s), you can see what I mean. For now, though, I'll stick with the abundance of glittery-girly-handled makeup brushes that I got on Christmas clearance, from Walmart, lol. $5 USD for a large variety pack of fairly high quality brushes that retail normally at around $30-40 USD? You betcha! I also have some Master's Touch artist series goat hair mop brushes, and LOVE them. Drybrushes are quite an interesting market these days.
I agree, the price range these are coming in at make them very accessible. I too wanted to try some AO Series D but they are just too expensive. They’d have to be the best brushes I’ve ever used for that price and I expect they couldn’t live up to that :-( Hehe, just spend 10-20 hours a week making videos for people to get into or better at painting for three years and you might get some free brushes to test :-D you’re right though it is very, very lovely when companies and people realised the effort you put in and reward you. I still expect nothing for free so it’s nice when something arrives in the post, to be honest, I’m still over the moon when people leave nice comments! :-)
Agreed, in fact I think these are makeup brushes with the Army Painter brand slapped on them. Makeup brushes are way cheaper and they're exactly the same thing as far as I can see.
I don’t necessarily see that as a bad thing, just makes the brushes more obviously available to some painters when they are right next to the paints for miniatures. I didn’t know about the concept of using make up brushes for dry brushes until 3 years in to painting! Weirdly though, these are very different to the makeup brushes I’ve used! But I’m by far no expect on make up :-D
@@duncanmckenzie7614 The extra soft ones for eyes and blush are good. No particular branks, just the cheapest ones I can get off the internet. I do have a few of the Artis Opus brushes and I can recommend them. I have been using the same ones for over a year, so very good quality and very strong. I use these mainly for terrain (I do a lot of terrain).
I’m still using them, I’ve got no complaints except it would be nice if there was a smaller smallest one! I’ve not done a ton of painting this year having had a baby, so I’ve not hammered them as much as my other dry brushes in the past but they are still in perfect condition so far!
@@WatchItPaintIt that’s what I was expecting h would say, I will be getting some of them soon, and maybe in the future get some Artis opus ones to see the difference, Iknow the artis opus are designed to slowly wear away but still be useable till there is almost no bristle length left Thanks for ur review 😊
Short answer: No. Long answer: Still no, and Artist Opus brushes are vastly superior. These are alright for beginners though. I have both. Been using the Artist Opus ones longer. Cannot emphasis enough that in my 20 years of doing this hobby, and even making it into a job in several ways, including owning an LGS, I have found that AP products are poor quality at nearly every turn. They're the dollar store version of model supplies. Everything they make is cheap because it's shit. Their paint is the worst on the market. Their "primers" are the exception, in which they are overpriced for the quality. They're just Krylon-quality for double Krylon prices. If I wanted garbage spray paint that's just been relabeled, I would buy "primer" from Armory instead. I carry neither of those mentioned brands in my store because I will not carry a product I don't stand behind. If a customer really wants AP products though, I will special order them AP products, but that garbage will never waste my shelf space.

The large brush can be used for graphite drawing to blend the lines for creating skin texture etc
The big ones you can use on bigger displays /dioramas others I think they be good for other types of model kits such as Gundam or Gunpla

Artus Opus dry brushes are pretty darn good.
I've heard that! Haven't had the chance to try those out.
The larger ones are great for larger models but also for bases and other terrain...
Oooh. Terrain!!! I’ve never painted any to this day! Forgot about that. Makes sense for war gamers!!! I’m just always thinking about my boardgames
How to clean these ones? Any specific method?
I’m just rinsing in water, I don’t take super care of any of my brushes. But I’d expect some brush soap would help!
What’s the best way to clean them?
That’s a good question. So far I’ve just rinsed it in water. Which is all I ever do with any of my brushes. If that’s not good, these wouldn’t be the brushes for me!
Thank you!
Any advice on cleaning these bad boys, just got mine and i dont wanna mess them up any faster than well dry brushing normally does?
Sorry! I’ve just been cleaning them like I normally would. I feel like they will last longer than normal ones but I’m a little concerned too - obviously could try using brush soaps?
Could you drag this out any longer!
You’re welcome!
It looks fine for drybrushing an entire figure, but much too large for drybrushing small areas such as just a rifle.

Did you compare them to the Artis Opus ones?
I haven’t yet! They are so expensive :-D trying to build up the courage to part with the cash!
@@WatchItPaintIt ....you can do it....we'r all behind you....!.LOL

im not sure if you are going to reply but, its been about 2 months since this review, how are they holding up?
cheers mate, great video

Btw, I'm hella jelly that TAP sent you a set of these, lol. I'd likely crap myself a brick if I were in that position. Perhaps one day! Grats!

Going to take something special to make me give up my makeup brushes....these new brushes are not exciting me so far.

It’s because of people like you I wish disliking RUclips comments actually did something.
What named versions for these brushes do you actually stand behind?
