Heya! The reason why your polymer clay creation is crumbly and fragile after baking is because it wasn't baked enough. For something that thick it would ideally be baked for an hour. That's why if the design becomes thicker we need to put foil/filler material in the middle.
Casteline and Relix are good wax based clays. I used Casteline for a bit, but since have moved to Relix. You can build figure without metal armature and Relix when room temp is hard like plastic. Relix also uses vegetable wax and bees wax so non toxic. Casteline is petroleum wax based.
Hi I´m from Brazil a tropical country, and I just bought Monster Clay Hard degree. It´s really "soft" here kkkk. Serious, we have some options here much more harder... I had to get familiar to this Hard(soft) degree..., but it´s absolutely the best clay I ever used!!
Hi, thanks for the video! I was wondering how Monster Clay responds to being painted (acrylic paint)? I would love to try using it, but I don't want to ruin a good sculpture. Thanks! :)
Hello you are doing great job here but i have a question if i want to sculpt person must i have many photos of the person or just one photo enough especially if i don't have many photos just one photo from straight
Hi. I came here to find out which clay you recommend but even though you mentioned lots of types pros and cons you didn't say which one you recommend.... grrrrrrrrrr.
Personal preference has alot to do with it. After she gave the pros and cons for each I'm leaning towards monster clay soft for myself. I like super sculpey alot too but it's pricey
Monster Clay® Premium Grade Modeling Clay is a re-useable sulphur free, professional oil/wax based sculpting medium. Composed entirely of non-toxic, food grade components, Monster Clay® has an ultra smooth formulation that features a low melt temperature and a low tack feel that will not stick to tools or fingers. Super Sculpey is a soft modelling material, flesh-pink in colour, and one of a number of polymer clays available which share similar properties. Polymer clay is composed of finely ground PVC particles held together with binders and plasticizers. Upon heating the plasticizers evaporate and the PVC particles fuse together.
I wouldn’t recommend misleading people by claiming “you can bake NSP and Monster clay in the oven”. I mean you can soften or melt them, not bake them. Also, Sculpey doesn’t turn into garbage if you leave it in the sun. Even the driest polymer clay can be revived with some baby oil, granted it’s a pain in the ass. Other than that, useful information. Would be nice if you did a comparison between Sculpey Living Doll and Super Sculpey Original.
I mostly make characters out of clay and I've been using crayola air dry clay because I can paint it. What type of clay would be best to use so that it dries solid so I can paint it when I'm done?
So overall which clay do you recommend for medium and small projects? Im slowly getting into sculpting characters and objects from games I been using un drying clay to practice these so I figured i might as well start actually making them permanently you know ☺️
Hello :) can you help me with a doubt? I want to sculp medium sized monster figures (like 4-5 cm, 1.5-2 inches); then make them into silicon molds and the make resin copies. I would like them to be detailed and it would be nice to be able to sand them (once harden) to make them real smooth.... ive been told sculptey III; premo or the epoxi green stuff are the best options... i need some feedback please tell me your opinion. THANKS
I watched a few masterclasses in sculpting, even the best sculpting masters complain about how sticky Chavant is, so to answer your question, I don't think there is a way to make it less sticky :)

I’m trying to get the best results for an art competition in which I’m creating an elephant sculpture. Out of preference which clay would you suggest to use? Great video!
@@cherylleblanc6515 Typically it refers to making a silicone mold of the original clay sculpture, then using casting resin in order to make duplicates from that mold. Hope that helps!
i personally think super sculpey would work beautifully! especially paired with a clay softener since its a polymer clay and wont dry. I personally disagree with what she has said here about super sculpey bc its held up pretty well for me !!!
Depends on what kind of face you want to make. If for dolls then go for sculpey, if you want excellent detailing and you are doing a big face then monster and also you can make multiples of it afterwards :)
@@LazyMinutes yeah! different things work better for different people its all how you make the most of the situation! im glad you find other materials to work better! your video was super informative though! ive been looking into getting new types of clay as of late
I want to make figures but I wonder if monster clay will melt easily. Will it melt if its a warm day? I live in Texas so I don't want my things to melt. And if you want to sell or give it away, will it break easily? I can't make up my mind haha
I actually think it should be fine. I use it on Lithuanian summers, they get around 30 celsius outside and inside about 25 or more, I had no problems at all. Just try not keep it on the sun :) monster is a very hard clay until you bake so it shouldn't break unless you make very thin pieces and accidentally snag them to the wall or something, but yea don't give monster away because it is reusable. If you want to make one of a kind figurines you can give away use sculpey clay. Again, don't forget to use it in a coolest (as in cold) area of your house
My sculpey 3 clay melts and sticks together real funny while I'm holding it trying to put another a different color on,it was awesome at first, ended up not turning out the way as planned,I still haven't baked it yet,I got aggravated and quit, and I plan on starting over tomorrow,is there something I can do to keep my clay from getting to warm and melting in my hand and melting when my fingers are touching it a lot when working on my clay figure? My figurine that melted looks deformed and ended up looking like a 4 year old did,so aggravating, this has never happened like this before.
Hi! I have a question! I wanted to cosplay, and in order to cosplay my character, I needed hooves. But all of the artificial hooves are SOOO expensive! So I wanted to make my own. I would sculpt the hooves and then apply them to the bottom of a pair of shoes! What kind of clay would be firm enough to step/walk-around on?
There is no “best”. As someone in the trade for 35 years, it’s whatever clay works “best for your project”. And I’ve used them all in 35 years from WED clay to Monster clay etc….. But, my go to is either Monster clay Medium or Chavant NSP Hard for the most part, especially for detail.
yes! but since it is a reusable clay, you should make a reprint of the original using, for example silicone, and then make a sculpture by pouring, for example, candle wax in it or good quality plaster, whatever you feel like it really
Are you able to make Lord shiva sculpture , I want to make it hard but same time I dnt want to bake so please help me I am in so much stress. you can paint it after alot of priming but most people cast it in resin to reuse the clay and paint the resin sculpture

Oil based plastilina is the best. You can even smooth it out and clean tools using mineral spirits

do these clays necessarily have to be cooked in the end? or can they be mixed and remodeled several times?
