If you haven't already, you should totally read "When I sing, mountains dance". You read snippets of life of all the living things that have inhabitated a little village in the Pirenei mountains and it has everything you could love: ghosts, nature, murder and love.
A book you might like, although it’s very US-centric, is People with Dirty Hands by Robin Chotznikoff. I read it long ago and still think about it often. The rose chapter has stayed solidly with me for 20(?) years. Also I go back to the book Derek Jarman’s Garden at least once a year. The images, to me, are a special kind of magic. He was like a poet garden witch.
I was so glad to hear that I’m not the only one who feels embarrassed trying to speak the language I’m learning. I’m learning Spanish so I’m going to look into the sponsor you mentioned. Thank you!
Such a lovely video, Quirine! The way you talk about books is very relaxing :) Also, your descriptions are very good! You describe what interested you and that is very contagious. The way you mention how a book seems like a combination of other books is also very helpful!
Aaah I'm so glad you are posting on RUclips, your videos are so cozy and inspiring, a breath of fresh air truly! also I'm obsessed with how your dress matches the candles, incredibly satisfying visually
Cool! Recently picked up Agua Viva while traveling at the bookshop owner's recommendation. Now I'm very excited to start it or at least move higher on the pile.
Based on your favorite book so far and focus on nature books, I think you'd really like The Overstory by Richard Powers. It won a Pulitzer, and is about people lives and how they revolve around trees.
I LOVE the last unicorn!!! It’s also one of my favorites of the year. I love it so much, I read it twice already. Also love Clarice Lispector. Highly recommend The Passion According to GH and Near to the Wild Heart
i think you might be really interested in a book called sunbathing by Isobel beech - it’s a beautifully slow novel about loss and friendship told in the background of rural Italy in the summer - the atmosphere is just perfect
Oh no...I'm about to buy so many books thanks to you! But all is forgiven because I am OBSESSED with your videos. I'll be visiting Italy for the first time in just 20 days and your content is getting me even more excited and inspired. I plan to take Elena Ferrante's second Neapolitan novel with me. Happy autumn, Quirine!🥰
I read The Offing based on your review earlier this year, and I have to say, it is one of my favourite books ever. It absolutely touched me in my soul. I really really loved it and it will be one of the few books I will read again. Thank you for bringing it to my attention x
I just finished the last book in the My Brilliant Friend series and it might be my favorite series of all times! It is soooo good! Elena Ferrante is actually a pen name and we don't know who wrote it, which I feel like actually adds to the mistery of this book...
Ohhhh I *adored* North Woods and I am so happy to see someone else talking about it! Definitely subscribing because I think our tastes overlap quite a lot. Thanks for pointing me to some new possibilities!
I've got a long trip coming up and was desperate to use up all my audible credits (which are quickly stacking up!) this was the perfect video to use them up! Thank you :)
Recommendation if you like Clarice Lispector : The imitation of the rose, short story collection ❤ I enjoyed north woods too and really want to get to my brilliant friend ( I will eventually 😂 I keep getting distracted) but I hear you when you say you forget books easily , I do think that too and then if someone just starts briefly talking about the plot it will all come back at once so don’t worry ! Thank you for your recommendations
Oh and a book about enjoying a garden : Elizabeth von arnim - Elizabeth and her German garden ❤️ ok I’ll stop now because I could keep writing you just said you love howls moving castle and me toooooo lol
i fully thought north woods was a dad novel too but you've 100% convinced me to pick it up!! if you like immersive fantasy, i highly highly highly recommend Robin Hobb if you haven't read her yet. i've been reading her first series The Farseer Trilogy this year and have been absolutely devouring them. she makes you feel for her characters and world so deeply. also a breath of life was my first clarice lispector book and i can confirm, it was amazing. it got me hooked on her beautiful writing. i have yet to read agua viva so now i think that will be my next read from her based on your rec :)
I've read the Farseer trilogy as well, really love them! I definitely should try more of her books because I agree, her fantasy worls are so real and immersive
thak you! i have never heard anyone talk about the offing. i read it last summer in the sun while listening to howls moving castle soundtracks. it was perfect
Great video! North Woods was my favorite release of 2023. A recent story collection has similar vibes: The History of Sound by Ben Shattuck. Well worth checking out. Clarice Lispector’s fiction is some kind of sorcery I cannot explain but which blows my mind. After reading Agua Viva, I would recommend The Passion According to G.H. Nothing can prepare you for that one! I’m also an admirer of William Morris who was an early fantasy writer as well. The Garden Against Time sounds interesting. I’ll have to check it out.
Thank you for these recommendations. I'm in the middle of "The WIll of the Many" right now and can not put it down! I'm a gardener by trade so of course I picked up a copy of "The Garden Against Time" and can't wait to get into that one as well.
WHAT IS THIS MASTERPIECE OF A THUMBNAIL
thank u its a screenshot of me looking at my boyfriend setting up the light 🤭
Omg I thought I was the only one who forgets the plot soon after reading. Thank you for saying that. Makes me feel better. 😅❤
Same! Books and movies as well... could go back completely blind!

Ahh that sounds amazing!! So similar to North Woods haha I love it
Honestly I came to the comments to recommend this book as well, it’s just brilliant ❤
SO many books and so little time. Best wishes.

The Last Unicorn is my favorite book of all time! I reread it every Spring, and I love it more each time I read it.

I actually bought that last week for that exact reason haha!
I feel the same! I'm so shy to try the pronunciation, but native speakers are so gracious and appreciative 😭❤
I LOVE LOVE LOVED first love! Couldn't stop talking about it! That is one of my favorites this year too! ❤

I heard something like that! I love when there’s a mystery surrounding authors haha
I need to read the story of the lost child soon.

I love how you say ‘books’
So glad to have found someone else who can't remember plot, mainly vibe!!!
I've got a long trip coming up and was desperate to use up all my audible credits (which are quickly stacking up!) this was the perfect video to use them up! Thank you :)
Haha I’m glad it was worth it!! have a good trip ❤
Amazing recommendations! Can't wait to dive into some of them. On a different note, your hair is goals, we need a tutorial!!!
Ahh thank you!! I didn't really do anything with my hair in this video so I'm not sure I can give a tutorial for it haha 🤭

❤📚❤️ I think you might enjoy The Vaster Wilds by Lauren Groff. It was very good. I have North Woods on my to be read list!
The Will of the Many was a banger
Okay, so now I have to read "North woods" 🍃
great video ✨
love your videos!!❤
There is also a movie for the Last Unicorn. It just came out on 4k recently. I loved the movie when I was a kid.
So many new books to check out
AHHHHHHHH FINALLY 😍
based on your description of North woods i think you’d really love Mischief acts by Zoe Gilbert!!

Elena Ferrante standalones are pretty good too.
Can recommend 'Near to the wild heart' from Lispector :)

Oh I think you'd love "holy the firm" by Annie Dillard
It's about our place in the natural world and how we face disaster
Ahh I love her writing - I definitely want to read more by her so thank you for this rec!
0:50 I feel so seen 😆
Hahaha it’s a problem
A hora da estrela by Clarice Lispector.
Wait, whaaat?? You moved to Italy?? Where?? Follower since a while, from Italy 🇮🇹
To Monza!! :)
highly recommended book? The Clear Quran: A Thematic English Translation of the Message of the Final Revelation Dr. Mustafa Khattab
_The Will of the Many_ sounds like basic nuts and bolts marxist symbolism and metaphor. So basically mad and wrong.
