I worked for Bobbi Brown in a depatrtment store a few years ago and loved it. However I did notice that more and more customers mostly young were asking for contouring and baking which was hard because this is not they way we were trained and wasn't the ethos of BB. Fast forward a couple of years and this is the way I think the brand has gone due to customer demand which is sad. I admire BB for sticking to her guns and wish her health, happiness and sucess for the future. X Ps, love your vids Sali. X

My favourite so far. Smart, relevant, realistic, pragmatic and strong. How do we convince Bobbi that we need her back in the beauty industry? I would buy everything in a grown up ( think Glossier for grown-ups) range she created. She is the voice of women over forty and the industry needs her. Urge on all our behalves please Sali. Thank you for bringing her to us.

Bobbi is her own best advertisement. For me her ethos has always represented that All American easy going beauty of paired back, healthy, glowing, but chic/finished. Whatever she puts her touch to, she will do well.

I have so much respect for Bobbi for leaving the brand, which became like every other one out there releasing gimmicky products and being focused only on profit.

My absolute favourite MUA since I came across her Makeup in House of Fraser when I was 19 and I purchased basically everything there and then! I’m 40 next month and I still use her products to this day her foundation especially is the best so natural looking nothing compares xx

I have always shared that belief system on beauty. the products are lovely. I am 65 have cut my hair short ,let it go grey and enjoy the minimal fresh look in my makeup. I really enjoy bright lips . So finally have found myself and will continue to use your cosmetics . When one door closes.... !

So happy this series is back Sali and you are interviewing Bobbi at such an interesting time, you could probably get three parts out of her interview! The part I liked best in this was when she was talking about the clean eating movement because of the way you handled it. I have seen interviews where I know the interviewer has a contrary (or potentially contrary) view to that expressed by the interviewee but they completely sold out and just agreed with what was being said. In this interview I knew from following you that you have certain anxieties about the idea of “clean eating” and how that concept is being interpreted and I could have punched the air when you actually said that to Bobbi. It gave you as an interviewer absolute credibility but even more so, it gave Bobbi the chance to respond to that and expand on what she actually meant by “clean eating”. No one was confrontational, you both respected each other’s views and ultimately we as the viewers learned more about Bobbi. Sorry for such a long comment but I hate it when I see interviewers betray their own views just to try and aline themselves to the subject and you showed how unnecessary that is. Masterclass in interview technique (plus how flipping gorgeous is her bathroom - do we get to see the amazing shower?) xx

Bobbi Brown is the greatest makeup artist of all time in my books. Helping women love themselves and optimise themselves without changing themselves. Sali is so right too. I’m about to turn 25 have sisters who are 16 and 23 and my mum’s 60 and we ALL just want to look like our best selves! Love you both wonderful women. Thanks for loving makeup and being cool.

So thrilled to have found your channel - and this video. I have been a Bobbi lover since the 90s when she was a smaller brand sold in my local hair salon in Ridgewood, NJ. I bought my first full kit of her makeup for my wedding (insisting on doing it myself to look like me) and was hooked on the brand and everything she stood for. I miss her influence and am now seeking alternatives since highlight and contour are so not me. Looking forward to seeing part two! ❤️

Oh, I've always admired this woman. How brave to leave SUCH a brand. And that she's cutting edge always/still. Wore heavy makeup yesterday for an event and HATED it. Wore Bobbi when she first started and was Indie and loved that light touch. I wish she'd do the organic version of The Ordinary but makeup. Lovely interview, Sali.

I agree. There is no need for handheld camera for this portion of video where they are just sitting and talking as it's a bit distracting. Tripod would be best. And then handheld would be nice for the section where they are going through bathroom and looking at products. My humble opinion as someone who worked in video production lol.

I was re-watching these randomly last night and this morning... a new episode!! Kismet. Bobbi Brown was one of the first "fancy" makeup lines I ever tried. My mom and I loved her, and I got my first department makeover (which I loved) at one of her counters. I remember when Shimmerbricks could NOT stay in stock. The industry is so different now, but she can always be proud of what she accomplished.

I admire you so much Bobbi! My first memory of makeup was seeing it on my great aunts bathroom vanity and it was all Bobbi Brown. I thought she was so effortlessly glamourous. I have always loved makeup but it wasn't until my late twenties that I tried the brand myself. It was the first time wearing makeup that I felt it was just made to enhance my natural features. I wear other brands as well, but it is always on days that I wear mostly Bobbi products like my corrector, pale pink blush, black gel liner, and sandwash pink lipstick that I feel the best. Thank you for staying true to your vision for so long!! I am forever a fan!

I had been a loyal Bobbi Brown customer since my mid-thirties. I used no other brand of makeup because I appreciated her philosophy of how makeup gave you confidence and that every woman was pretty. Unfortunately, I stopped using the brand about 2 years ago when the company discontinued some of my favorite products. I find the quality not what it used to be, especially at that price point. I am 58 now, and don't feel the brand is focused on my age group (not that other brands are either). I did appreciate your conversation with Bobbi and still find her inspirational. I wish her nothing but success in her future endeavors. I will keep searching for mine. Thank you.

What a lovely personal interview and it shows such class by Ms Brown on why she left and the direction of the industry yet she had nothing but positive things to say save for it just stopped working at some point and how her Aunt Alice offered advice she took to heart and not being happy with the direction of the industry. I found is sad when the brand was sold to such a big company as I loved such a powerful brand owned by strong woman. I've never liked a lot of BB cosmetics over the year and haven't always liked some things put forth in terms of aesthetics. However the respect of such a hard working entrepreneur is what I always hold for her. She is the first professional MUA I'd ever heard of and followed as celebrity wise so it was a marvelous interview and looking forward to watching part 2.

She is a total class act, and I get the impression that things probably ended badly with Lauder, but I'm excited to see what the future brings for this pioneer! HUGE fan of Sally and the In The Bathroom with series! Love Bobbi, a book of hers was my beauty (and general life advice) bible in my teens. I understand the aesthetic of the series being casual and informal, but please consider keeping the camera still, perhaps have one on a tripod and one hand held to maintain the documentary style? Personally, the constant moving camera can become slightly uncomfortable after a while. Also would love to see the series shot in a higher quality, only because I want to see you, the amazing people you interview and their bathroom in full HD! (Unless it's just me? I can only watch in 480p and it just isn't clear?) Please don't get me wrong, I'm not looking for an over-the-top beauty guru productions, I am lover of old-school RUclips and simple videos. I will continue to be a fan of yours and this series and will watch no matter what - just a few suggestions :)

What an incredible interview. I just knew it!!!!1 For our Bobbi to leave her brand it would have to have been political with a mega house! However Bobbi best of luck with every new venture. For one I shall continue to follow u with all that u do, no not leaving u out Sali.
Bobbi I met u moons ago in NY and I have been a fan of yours like millions of others for ever. I have just turned 60 and still like to think that I enhance the way I look and not look like someone I am not.
So true, if one is sad no matter what u put on your face the look would be of sadness, remember our Princess Diana in Korea before the end of her marriage. Emotions are a huge key to how we look and feel, eating better it will all show us off.
Cannot wait for part 2 Sali. Love these relaxed bathroom visits of yours. Sorry I love to ramble, well I just can't help it!

I have always loved bobbi's brand (ever since I started wearing makeup). I always loved the philosophy behind it, how the goal was to empower women, to make them feel like the best version of themselves. And a while ago I started seeing all this new launches of "trendy" makeup in the brand and I have to admit I was a little disappointed. Then I learned that Bobbi had left the brand and it made more sense to me.
The thing is, I think that even though she left the brand she managed to share this beautiful and positive vision of makeup and beauty in general. I'm glad she left when she felt that the brand was going in a different direction and that she has kept on sharing that point of view, specially in a pinterest/instagram world like we are living in right now.

I’m still astounded as an Australian who now lives in the US that even now its virtually impossible to get a cup of tea when we travel domestically. I once asked for a coffee or teapot with boiling water ro be brought to our room at a well known nyc hotel and was told it wasn’t possible. I travel with my own kit, small electric jug, tea, cups, honey. Maybe I’m the crazy one, I dunno, but I NEED MY TEA!!!!!!

Anastasia Beaverhausen That is so interesting to me. As a non-tea drinker I have to admit that comment was recvd with a bit of an eye-roll on my part because I mean how hard is it to boil water & provide a teabag & cup? How can the US seriously not "make a proper cup of tea"? Sounds a bit exaggerated to me.

MSL5 It’s simply my experience. Someone who doesn’t drink tea might not be aware of the difficulty accessing the correct equipment inside a hotel room, which is what I was referring to. There is often a Keurig which doesn’t make a decent cup of tea as the steeping process is far longer and completely different than a timed pour over process and the pods or k-cups are often a brand that isn’t that drinkable anyway. After a long journey a cup of tea is like a lung full of air to some of us, it’s probably hard to conceive of if it wasn’t a central part of your culture and upbringing, it’s just a difference.

Well done Bobbi Brown! I became a makeup artist because of you, having admired your ethos and products since day 1. I had a bad feeling ever since Estee Lauder died and her granddaughter took over that she would try to ruin every brand she controlled.

I totally admire and look up to Bobbi. Always have. For YEARS. I was beyond sad to see her leave the brand. Now I honestly see how the line is somehow morphing and changing and while still looking pretty, I personally think it's lost that BB aesthetic in some way. Kudos to you Bobbi for sticking to your guns and staying true to yourself. Keep us posted of your goings on in 2018.
