First Race Huli - Plunging into the Ocean!

- Paddled with Kapolioka'ehukai as a seat 1 in OC6 at the Battle of the Breakwater Outrigger Novice Men Short Course Race held at Long Beach, CA.
We had a great start and were neck and neck with the Santa Barbara team. However, we hulid soon after. The crew recovered quickly and paddled with vigor to the finish line, passing many canoes along the way!
This was the first huli'ng during a race, and we learned a lot!
Huli is when the canoe capsizes and rolls into the water.

The ama looked light from the start! Did a crosswind catch the boat and flip you? Bummed I wasn’t with you all, but you guys handled this great.
Not sure what happened. One moment, everything is fine, and then suddenly lift off!
Yeah, I'm proud of our recovery. We've got a great crew :)
