  • Hidden away in the North West of Co Mayo on the Mullet Peninsula beside Belmullet, Carne Golf Links is really golfing on the edge of the World.
From the moment you step foot in the club, you know it's different. This place is spectacular, from the welcome you receive from the team, to the dunes you have to take on when you get out.
It's not your average 18 hole course either, oh no, 27 holes are in play around Carne, split into 2, 18 hole courses. The Hackett Course & the Wild Atlantic Dunes course. You'll want to play both courses, my preference is the Wild Atlantic Dunes, but if you get the Hackett, you won't be disappointed.
Don't worry about speed of play either. This is a Himalayan trek, it will take time. Enjoy the views & take in the experience. It's rare you'll find a golf course that you can feel so calm while probably playing badly. It's incredibly tough, but massively rewarding at the same time.
Don't forget to take your time in the pro shop too. The Carne pro shop is well stocked with anything you'll need. Everyone here is so friendly, so friendly, that these clips came from 3 separate visits in August. I couldn't get enough of the place.
There are plenty of places to see nearby also. Erris Head is spectacular, Blacksod Bay has the most famous lighthouse on the planet (think WWII & D-Day) & across the bay there are spectacular views of the north side of Achill Island.
It may be a little out of the way, but Carne is worth the journey for anyone who enjoys golf & monstrous dunes.

Played Carne a few years back on an extremely windy day. Blowing hard enough to blow over my golf back and pull cart several times. A fearsome links on a calm day became unplayable for me.

It's one of the few places I've been where a bad day golfing is secondary to experience of being there.
It can get breezy alright. I'm planning a return visit, but need the breeze to be down to fly the drone obviously. I may be waiting a while 😂.
Links Golf at its finest is open to mother nature turning you into Mary Poppins.

Place is unreal, well worth the journey. Jerry and Fiona are iconic. Fish and chips in the restaurant four meals in a row. But the course, the experience was off the charts. No rain for three weeks, then the wind started to howl, 25+ you better birdie 1 or you are toast. I can not wait to get back. Only regret was I wish we went to Cruit instead of Donegal. Wish we made the drive. 5 days at Enniscrone, Sligo, Carne, Carne, Narin and Portno, Cruit St Patrick’s Rosa Penna would be off the charts

Thats some itinerary. Carne is brilliant, Jerry & Fiona are incredible. Some of the stories about Carne's ups & downs make the success its seeing brilliant.
You won't find many places that you can get battered on the golf course, lose all your golf balls & still walk away with a smile.
Carne is one of those places.
