Mets fans only remember the strikeout in the NLCS..Beltran had statistically some of the best offensive seasons in mets history while picking up a few Gold Gloves during those years. Cant understand what the hate is about.
Only two negatives I can say about Beltran as a Met is that 1- He had a horrible 2005 season (A season the Mets could have made the playoffs if he was just a bit better). 2- He didn't want to sign with the Mets because he didn't want to be one the faces (if not the face) of the franchise at the moment, even though with that huge deal. He didn't sign with the Mets until Pedro was signed, and Piazza was on his way out, and Reyes and Wright were pretty much just starting. I never blamed Beltran for 2006 game 7. The Mets offense just stunk in that NLCS getting controlled by Suppan and Weaver of all pitchers.
Sucks that you feel that way about Joe B. I think he's one of the most entertaining personalities on the station ever and love listening to him everyday
Only thing I don't like about Roberts is that he always tries to prove his point, even regarding things in which we obviously know the answer to already. But you cannot say he's not knowledgeable because he knows a helluva lot about sports, especially considering he's only in his mid 20's. But anyway, I love their show and listen to it everyday.
As a long time Yankee fan-Carlos Beltran carried the Yankees in the month of September, 2015! Without his bat for that month-the rest of team had no offense, & barely made it in the playoffs that year......
Wish these two were still together because I feel like we could get an even more extreme version of this with deGrom. Joe wouldn't give him "a dime" to resign after this year. Evan recoils in horror at even the thought of him in a different uniform. Like, he won't even have that discussion with a caller...imagine these two viewpoints for a whole show?? In the final years of their partnership they really never disagreed on anything even close to this degree.
I can remember in 6th grade meeting even in class and hearing about how good the mets were and going to his house and being shocked to all the METS stuff in his house......yep back in 96'.........Evan was the man then and still is. He was on radio back then in 6th GRADE!!!!!! Great guy he knows what hes talking about. OK hes 27 now.... thats about 20 years of following baseball and the mets.... thats experience to me,
The hate for Beltran was such bullshit, I hated having to listen to guys like Benigno regurgitate the same tired arguments about how he "had no heart" simply because he wasn't "fiery." You don't have to be visibly emotional to care or hustle. Benigno's argument sums up everything I hate about other Mets fans.
Evan Roberts may be a dork, but he knows his sports. His only drawback is that he IS A DORK. He knows what he is talking about, and he follows his sports. I don't care How he got his job......he is legit. It's just he Midday callers are all boring.
The Mets did good with that trade. They would've been smart to deal Reyes, right after the Beltran deal. I really have no clue why they didn't. They could've gotten 2-3 prospects for Reyes, instead of 1 draft pick. I mean they knew they weren't going to keep him, so why not get something for him?
Only two negatives I can say about Beltran as a Met is that 1- He had a horrible 2005 season (A season the Mets could have made the playoffs if he was just a bit better). 2- He didn't want to sign with the Mets because he didn't want to be one the faces (if not the face) of the franchise at the moment, even though with that huge deal. lol, i agree with evan 100% on this, but this is a phenomenal joe b rant haha. Carlos Beltran is the most under-appreciated met of all time. The best CF in mets history, the 2nd best OF in mets history. And had the best single season in mets history. Was a tremedous ball player. The mets need carlos beltrans
I couldn't agree more with Benigno. Watching him everyday changes your perception of him. I never felt like he played with any kind of intensity as a Met. He does whatever he wants. The poorly timed surgery, the jogging down the first base line, the leisurely strolls in center field drove me nuts about Beltran. I'm really glad the Giants didn't watch him everyday. Otherwise, the Mets would have never netted Zack Wheeler.
So Curtis Granderson is better than Carlos Beltran wow. Joe is the same guy who thought Victor Diaz was better than Wright and Reyes, He also forgot Beltran played with a broken face but that is expected.
@bkstyle82 As did I. Still remember being 15 and hearing Francesa kill Joe for an hour on Joe's show after the jets missed the play-offs in 97. All the best to you.
Really funny ass clip. Benigno was pretty much wrong on this one. The only part that made me go "wtf" at Roberts was when he said Beltran hustled more than David Wright.
Evan Roberts has a face for radio! I actually like these guys, but when I listen to them I always wonder how the hell these two guys have a mainstream radio show in NYC.
I feel so sorry for Evan Roberts to be teamed up with Joe Beningo. As much as I like Beningo, he is such a big whiner and personifies the majority of radio fans in NY who love to call in just to bitch and whine. Evan, like someone has said, is so level headed and is one of the only guys in NYC sports radio that bothers to actually make sense of what he says.
Now that he is on the Yankees Beltran is out everyday because he is sick or, my personal favorite from last year, a "batting practice mishap". He's older now but he never plays and when he does, stinks.
@musicguy550 i would be more than happy to re-address those points. i said you failed because you made a comment that was easily proven false by a quick glance at beltran's career stats. he's had a phenomenal career as a met, that is not open for interpretation.
@musicguy550 you clearly don't understand the arbitration process. here's the difference. thanks to the contract, if carlos utilizes his no-trade clause and stays a met in 2011 and leaves via free agency, the mets get nothing. players with arbitration clauses that sign with another team as a free agent receive compensatory draft pics. the trade with the giants allows the mets to get a prospect in return, and the option of re-signing beltran after this season remains.
@musicguy550 well now your argument has changed, your argument was that the mets shouldn't re-sign him. i'm saying they absolutely should. now you are arguing that the mets chose not to re-sign in favor of a trade. simply, neither of us know that for certain. its entirely possible that discussions took, or that carlos didn't want the distraction of negotiations mid-season. the mets finances related to madoff could also be a consideration. the option to re-sign still exists after this season.
@musicguy550 carlos is gone thanks to a terrible contract handed out by omar minaya, not because of beltran's worth. beltran's worth is exactly what made him such a valuable trade chip and brought back a top 50 prospect in return. all signs point to alderson re-signing reyes, according to comments made by alderson just yesterday. sigh, facts...they always get in the way of opinions, don't they?
@729Drew you couldn't be any more wrong....Beltran is the main reason the Mets went anywhere in 06....and check his playoff numbers from 06 and compare them to no show wright....not to mention the Mets were winning alot more before the Beltran trade....he never had a fair shake here while every excuse in the world has been made for Mr unclutch spaghetti arm David Wright
LOL! Joe got what he wanted, and look at where The Mets are now. They'd kill to have Beltran these days LOL! Didn't he just hit 2Hr's in Game 2 of The NLDS this year?
@musicguy550 also your insistence that the terms of his contract have nothing to do with re-signing is false. there is a 50/50 chance beltran signs any extension or new deal offered. if he chooses not to sign and had left, the mets are left with nothing to show for it. the mets decided they would rather take the prospect now, and take the same chance with carlos in the offseason.
@musicguy550 a cursory glance at the statistical history of both players would show this entire post to be false. congratulations sir, you fail at the internet.
@musicguy550 indeed, beltran has been worth every penny of his contract. in fact, according to the stats i mailed you (proving beltran's 2006 was no fluke and not his only good season) he has been worth far more than his contract. the contract was terrible in that it included a full no trade clause as well as no option for the mets to offer arbitration. allowing the contract to expire and beltran leaving via free agency would net zero compensatory draft picks. please, do some actual research.
When the day comes that WFAN goes the way of Blockbuster Video, it will be in no small part due to Benigno and his tiresome act which hasn't been modified one iota in over fifteen years.
@musicguy550 it is not a contradiction, because the two things are independent of one another. you argue beltran had only one good season. i proved that to be false with statistical evidence. in the case of beltran's contract, he has exceeded the monetary value of it. the devil lies in the no trade clause and lack of arbitration. if beltran left after this season the mets receive no compensatory picks due to his status as a type A free agent. you really should be looking this all up for yourself
@musicguy550 i would love for sandy to re-sign carlos. he's been fantastic as a met, as supported by the stats i provided. i hope the mets do re-sign him and he finishes a hall of fame career in new york. (his career war is already 69 an only 2 or 3 players over 70 WAR are not in the hall). the inference was that beltran was traded because he sucked and only had one good year. my argument was that he was traded because the terms of his contract made it a trade the best deal for the mets.
Wow. When joe and Evan actually argued. Rarely happens anymore.
I love Joe, but this was beyond absurd
I have no idea why anyone would dislike Joe Benigno. He is the best on the fan
Mets fans only remember the strikeout in the NLCS..Beltran had statistically some of the best offensive seasons in mets history while picking up a few Gold Gloves during those years. Cant understand what the hate is about.

It’s because he wanted to be a Tankee not a Met
"Maybe you got a guy that CARES!!!!!!"
Sucks that you feel that way about Joe B. I think he's one of the most entertaining personalities on the station ever and love listening to him everyday
CaptainPijak He's ignorant. Ignorance is never entertaining.
He's entitled to his opinion. I'd rather hear ignorant than that pompous ass, Francesa
totally agree; he may be simplistic but he is as passionate a fan as there is
OUCH!!!!
@@wfancritic blasphemy
One of the greatest sports radio rants ever
he may be simplistic but he is as passionate a fan as there is.. certainly isn't a buffoon; his knowledge of sports history is unrivaled
"How do you know he's not? HOW DO YOU KNOW HE'S NOT!!!????"
Overnights have not been the same since Benigno left.
As a long time Yankee fan-Carlos Beltran carried the Yankees in the month of September, 2015! Without his bat for that month-the rest of team had no offense, & barely made it in the playoffs that year......
"Whaddya doin'? Writin' a soap opera!?
This was during the 08 season. Joe is wrong is here.
Beningo is a 100% right about Beltran. Any small nic nac injury he gets, he's sittin.
this is hysterical....who cares whose right or whose wrong
Wish these two were still together because I feel like we could get an even more extreme version of this with deGrom. Joe wouldn't give him "a dime" to resign after this year. I heard this live and couldn't stop lauging! I had tears coming out of my eyes!!
In retrospect...Benigno turned out to be right about this one..No?
one of the best rants you ever will hear.
I love these two guys.
benigno was right. 2006 game 7 against the cardinals. beltran strikes out with the bat on his shoulder
one word describes this arguement EMBARRASSING
I can remember in 6th grade meeting even in class and hearing about how good the mets were and going to his house and being shocked to all the METS stuff in his house......yep back in 96'.........Evan was the man then and still is. He was on radio back then in 6th GRADE!!!!!! Great guy he knows what hes talking about. OK hes 27 now.... thats about 20 years of following baseball and the mets.... thats experience to me,
How is this man still on the air after killing someone? He belongs in jail.
It took me too long to get this. God Damn your face
This reminds me of 2 NY Giants fans arguing whether or not they should trade OBJ 😂😂😂😂😂
And someone should tell Joe "oh, please" and "stop it" is not evidence supporting his argument.
The hate for Beltran was such bullshit, I hated having to listen to guys like Benigno regurgitate the same tired arguments about how he "had no heart" simply because he wasn't "fiery." You don't have to be visibly emotional to care or hustle.

brookside1 ya nailed it about evan
more rants please
THis is good radio. Even though Joe comes across as insane. People who moan that Evan is young is just jealous. He is very knowledgable
How is this an embarassing moment? They are passionately arguing about sports.. Isn't that their job??
Not getting a big hit, not busting it, overrated.... Joe’s talking about Wright
@marce360- You try and hit that last curveball Wainwright threw...
Only two negatives I can say about Beltran as a Met is that

This is just great radio !!
Did he honestly say Ryan Church before anybody else?
And now joe likes beltran. Its funny how things change
He had 2 good years 06 & 07
I couldn't agree more with Benigno. Watching him everyday changes your perception of him. I never felt like he played with any kind of intensity as a Met. He does whatever he wants. @marce360 therefore he's terrible because he couldn't hit a ridiculous curve ball?
So Curtis Granderson is better than Carlos Beltran wow. Joe is the same guy who thought Victor Diaz was better than Wright and Reyes, He also forgot Beltran played with a broken face but that is expected.
Being a Yankee fan and with beltrans production with the team this year this video pisses me off
@bkstyle82 As did I. Still remember being 15 and hearing Francesa kill Joe for an hour on Joe's show after the jets missed the play-offs in 97. All the best to you.
This is New York 4 Yall
Evan was 100% right in this argument. sorry to say
@MR917621 I like Paige on overnights but spent my teen years as an insomniac listening to Joe B
Really funny ass clip. Benigno was pretty much wrong on this one. The only part that made me go "wtf" at Roberts was when he said Beltran hustled more than David Wright.

Benigno argues like a 3rd grader. No facts, just irrational drivel.
@JadeTomZ Isn't Francesa Italian?
Is Evan Roberts Old enough to drink he sounds like a five year old
@musicguy550 you clearly don't understand the arbitration process. here's the difference. thanks to the contract, if carlos utilizes his no-trade clause and stays a met in 2011 and leaves via free agency, the mets get nothing. players with arbitration clauses that sign with another team as a free agent receive compensatory draft pics. the trade with the giants allows the mets to get a prospect in return, and the option of re-signing beltran after this season remains.
wrong wrong wrong. Benigno is the best, even if he was dead wrong about Beltran
i think beltran is a terrific player
4:54.... don't think Joe feels that way now!
Evan was 100% right.

Joe loves beltran now. Lol

This is too funny! Love that Willie Randolph comment!
LOL... Joe says Ryan Church > Beltran!!!! Joe is clueless.
