Vox Mini GO 10 - Is it any good? An Honest Review.

- For my Presets visit: johnnathancord... So Vox asked if I'd want to review this, so I said yes. Practice amps I think can be an important part of a guitarist's life - whether it's something you keep downstairs for practicing alongside other tasks, or something you take on holiday/breaks/sausage related adventures. The Vox Mini Go 10 is one of the rarer practice amps that has a looper built in...In this unboxing and first play, I wanted to give an honest opinion about what I'm hearing.

My mum wants one now, thank you!
That chorus reverb actually sound great, I don’t like much in terms of effects anyway, but I like reverb and chorus and vox, if I was looking for a practice amp then this would be a definite contender, that’s actually really cool.
I actually use it strictly for my Cigar Box Guitars.
Looks like a nifty little box. I'd definitely recommend a looper for everyone - if you play an instrument, you need to play with others, to react and adjust to things, provide simple accompaniment etc. and a looper very naturally forces you to do all that. I think my first looper came basically as an unasked for extra in a Roland AC-33 amp, and I felt like, how have I not had one before, I've been so dumb. I highly recommend the AC-33 as well by the way, beautiful sound for acoustic instruments.
Yeah, a looper makes all the difference when you're learning. It becomes a lot easier to understand and integrate chords changes in your playing, and also forces you to keep the correct tempo. This is a lot harder than it seems when you're starting out.
I don’t think I’ve seen you happier in any of your videos than when you unboxed that machete. 🗡🤣
Haha, was thinking the exact same thing.
Amp and effects sound really good, actually, even with YT compression. The looper is also a great feature in my book. Might get one of these as an alternative to my big combos.
Such a wonderful demo you did here ! The looper is brilliant, and sounds actually decent ? Not like "farting", I mean.......
You're one the first to review this series. I bought a Mini Go 50. I love the rhythm and looper very handy and fun. And the amp models and fx are great and the low power settings (0.5W, 5W) are useful. Unfortunately the Mini Go headphone out cab sim sounds very boxy and compressed (by comparison to my Vox Amplug Classic Rock, or Fender Mustang Micro which both sound great through headphones). I contacted Vox about it and they told me to mic the speaker for recording if I want a good tone, which assumes using 50W if I want the cabinet to sound half decent. Using a microphone to record the speaker at low power settings will sound boxy too. So really even the Mini Go 50 is good for private practice and busking, and maybe some band practice, but not really practical for home recording.
Please let me know if plugin headphones disable speaker. I would like to use headphones out as my line out to the front of the house mixer and still I want to hear from amp's speaker. Thank you!
@@henrykc3 Yes headphones disables speaker.
@@jimmyjames2022 Thank you! They don't have imagination that somebody would use it as an amp but still sending line out to the main FOH mixer. This is not the first one, my friend has small Roland Keyboard/PA amp, same thing, no line out and plugin headphones disables speaker. So stupid, I cannot believe it.
@@jimmyjames2022 do you enjoy the Mini Go 50 still? They are on sale for $199 and I’m thinking about grabbing one. The looper is a very neat feature, and the fact that the foot switch doesn’t need a power supply is cool to me. I could use this anywhere. I’m worried it sounds bad though, some people were complaining about that. I’m no audiophile or anything though.
@@psych336 if you are not using headphones it's a nice enough amp, good not great. But the headphone quality is pretty lousy. I have a Vox Amplug2 Classic Rock headphone amp and it's miles better than the Mini Go headphone out. I emailed Vox and they said it would be too expensive to make it sound good. In times when many of us use headphone out to record this seems a misstep. Note that the USB port on the back is only for a power charge it is not an audio / signal path for computer.
I bought one of the first Vox modelling amps----a DA5, when they first came out, 15+ years ago(?). It's a 5 watter but I have it permanently set on 0.5watt and even then my neighbour reckons he can hear it, and our houses aren't even attached! It does the job brilliantly but it's doesn't have a looper or rhythm section. I reckon it's time for an upgrade and this Vox Go has gone to the top of my list---so thank you!
Do you think this one is better than the Nux mighty air. ??
Vert nice playing!
Awesome video.
if you didn't have a footswitch, would it still be possible to use the looper effectively?
-- my favourite practice amp is my Orange Crush 20RT. it has made me fall in love with playing all over again. i had a roland cube for years which has some nice sounds, but the Orange is magically organic and magically delicious; it only does a couple of things but it does them beautifully.
@9:00 do the individual notes on this speaker really sound mediocre and boxy, kind of like being played on a wah-wah pedal when you use the JCM800 models or higher? I found on the Vox Mini 5 the 6.5” speaker was really bad for the higher gain amp models when playing solos. I had to disconnect the speaker wire and plug into a Randall 8” cab and it sounded amazing in comparison.
How does the 10 compare to the Vox Mini GO 50?
Have a DA5 and the model emulations are pretty darn good, really hard to tell how the Mini go10 stacks up when compared to the DA sound wise.
Nice review! Maybe you can do another quick review with the direct out (I guess the headphone out) in to the Audio Interface and maybe a miced one. Would be interesting to hear.
Was that cutlass also provided by vox, do you have to give it back? Its a work of art
I took it upon myself to source the blade
@Philthy Casual especially useful if, after unbxing one must hack their way through impenetrable rain forest.
Great review, thanks! Sounds really good...or at least, you make it sound good. (Love your playing style!) I've got the Yamaha THR10C which walks all over pretty much every small desktop/practice amp, when it comes to amp tones...but no looper or rhythms.
Just sold my Spark amp which, although good for the money, just didn't float my boat. So, I've got a Vox Mini Go 50 on the way! The looper, the sync function that matches the rhythm and loop tempos... and yes, even the Vocoder, all look like they add up to a lot of fun!
Was it any good
@@jdb2722 yes, it's a fun little amp, for the money. The amp models aren't the best but they're OK...and the tuner is hit and miss (well on mine, anyway.) It's well built and has plenty of features that make it fun to play; looper, rhythm machine (that can sync with the looper,) a number of reasonable amp models... and the Vocoder, which is really cool.
@@goldtop362 thanks I’ve been looking for something to take in my backyard to play without a lot of cord hassle. I tried the Yamaha but didn’t like the sound and you had to plug it into the wall. I have a blackstar fly which is ok but it’s more like a toy. I think I will probably be picking one of these up. The power bank option, bluetooth, looper it almost doesn’t matter how good the amp models sound. So long as I can find an ok sabbath/AC/DC and a Hendrix/rhcp I will be more than happy. I’m not expecting too much.
@@jdb2722 yes, it should fit the bill, based on what you've said. Don't get me wrong, the amp models are decent enough and there's quite a range of gain levels. You've got Fender Deluxe, the "boutique" CL and OD are Dumble based, and you've got Vox, Marshall, Soldano and Mesa Dual Rectifier. Something for all styles. I particularly like the VM (Marshall JVM.)
With the option to use it with a power pack and an aux in for mp3 backing tracks, you can keep your neighbours entertained for hours! 😄
Be interested to hear your opinion, when you get yours! 😎👍
@@goldtop362 thanks man. I appreciate your insight. A guy tends to get sold a lot of RUclips but all the high end sound engineers posing as weekend warriors. I prefer when you find a random dude with a 1 minute clip from their phone. Oh so that’s how it will actually sound haha. Take care and thanks again.
The Vox Mini Go series sounds awesome than the VT series. Hope they release a 100 watt version of it.
@john nathan cordy- does anyone reconize the film whats from?
Predator!
" Now that's a knife " I've been curious about the 50 watt. I've never really given Vox much attention due to the aesthetics are not to my taste ,( putting that as nice as I can ) but the I ther day I played on a I believe it's c Allen the Valvetronics, the other modeler they make, and was very pleased with the tone I was getting . Then saw another RUclips channel review on the 50 where it has the built in vocoder and I was blown away at that.
Hi there. Anyone knows , if this is gonna work with acoustic guitar (plugged of course 😃)? How long does the loop get? Thanks
Found it: 45 secs
Will this amp work with an acoustic-electric too?
Thanks for the demo. Do you know which practise amps also have looper and drum machine?
Should point out it does NOT have a built in battery but will work with a battery phone charger.
Thanks for your review. Bought one a few days ago and quite pleased with it. Just in the process of fitting a VOX carry handle on top and have VOX speaker fabric to give it a more authentic look. Now trying to figure out how to make the foot switches for less than 60 quid. Oh and also to fit a battery internally. UPDATE impossible to copy the footpedal as it has a microprocessor inside controlling the output so 60 quid it is.
My first thought was it must be rechargable with "go" in the name. I am passively shopping for a decent rechargable amp. I recently gave away a vox mini 5 modeler because it made every guitar sound the same and did not respond well with the guitar volume but it was a few years old
Is it better tuan boss street cube 2?
Has anyone tried this amp with guitar and vocals? How does it sound?
Good demo & Nice playing dude👍 Please, can you tell me: Is it intern Akku or takes batteries?
I believe it can accept an input from other battery sources - "MOBILE BATTERY
5 V/3 A*" - not supplied though
@@johnnathancordy Thanx!
Vox mini go 10 has no knob to adjust the Tempo: REDICULOUS.
Only TAP which is obviously a problem, trying to find you're exact desired tempo, tapping, being disturbed by the wrong tempo.
Even Vox Rhythm 3W had a knob.
yes i agree, thats a real nightmare, the mini five had a cool rolling pot for that, tapping the beat speed, screwing it up is a nightmare if you are playing to an audience really, we are not drummers but guitarists ! Maajor error ofr me !
I would love if these small amps separated the delay and reverb so you can have them both at the same time.
One thing about the 10 is I don’t think you can change presets with the footswitch (only turn delay/reverb on/off) but with the 50 you can
You can with a Yamaha thr.
Crocodile Dundee is where the knife is from. “That’s not a knife”
You call that a knife?
It's actually incredibly impractical
@@johnnathancordy fairbairn sykes knife would be better. More of a point for getting into the packaging
@@tonystartup3817 stop being practical
That’s not a knife. This is a knife!
Seems to be a miniaturized version of the Vox Cambridge amp they released a year back or so. Does this one also feature a Nutube (and does it matter?). I will say I think as far as these mini amp things go, this is one of the classier looking ones.
No Nutube in this one, though like you I'm uncertain whether those things will be hailed as the future of valves....?
Is missing any EQ on the mic input.
No treble.
Johnnathan Dundee
Nice butterfly sword. Do you know the sword form? You certainly know how to upset some of your viewers. 👍😂
What's a sword form?
@@johnnathancordy Hi John. In my mind, you’ve been mastering the Wing Chun Butterfly Sword form since I told you about it. Martial arts are a lot like guitar playing, so such things happen sometimes. 👍
You want the boxes trembling before you? Hoping their last act before being cut is to pee their pants? You should be making sandwiches with that knife. Boxes don't have pants.
BTW tht is a knife .
Crocodile Dundee maybe .
The tones sounded kind of lo-fi, like an old radio. Perhaps it was the way it was recorded or it just needed a little tone/EQing. It's great they included a Looper.
In a somewhat unrelated topic, I saw an interesting Amp in Rhett Schull's recent Studio Tour Video. It is the Gibson GA-50 from 1951, apparently renowned for its Tremolo sound. I've seen a few videos, and the basic Amp sounds really beautiful, and I think something you'd like. It doesn't appear that Line 6 Helix has modeled it. Do you know what might be comparable to it in the Line 6 Helix World?
Tbf you're just hearing camera audio in the room, at the end where I turned it up quite a bit louder I think it gets a bit fuller sounding.
No idea actually i think older l6 units may have had an old gibbo or am I thinking of the bass model?
How is it every 'demo' ive ever seen of this and other 'busking ' amps NEVER has anyone actually plugging in a microphone at the same time as the guitar and also never demoed with an acoustic guitar.
Please dont do these videos unless you are actually going to do them right
It was not a 'wonderful review' as some stated. It has a second input for mic ~ no demo. There are 11 different rhythms of which he only demo'd two. Is it any good? Based on this incomplete review, who knows? He was too infatuated with his playing and the 'looper'.
Hey Gene - thanks for the insight
I think this is a pretty wonderful review. maybe not an exhaustive complete showcase, but he shows how instantly musical this thing is.
That machete looks ideal to lose some fingers with. Not so good for unboxing though.
Be nice if you could get hold of one same old story no supply to demand Vox seem to always get it wrong wish Fender would do something like this Vox are just all midrange and bottom end and sound boxy I have a mini 5 but the sound of it is AWFUL.
I think your knife is too small
Why would anyone care what he uses to open a box..people are strange
Please just get a decent pocket knife no one needs a sward to open boxes
