Oh, the comments look very worthwhile. I'm going to look at my seat control switch as well as the gas cap. I have a crankshaft oil leak to fix too and that may be the problem, but it may be I have both to deal with. Thank you Mechanical Mind.
Have a z945m mower. Puffs some black/greyish smoke. As well as loses power and sometimes dies when pro is engaged. Any thoughts? Fuel filter, air filter, spark plugs all new. As well as oil change performed.
Hey brother I have a z930m the mower turns on perfect occasionally it sputter on n off. It’ll run and mow perfectly but at times it goes into limp mode. Other times I turn it on fine then engaged the pto and it Boggs down and it’ll run like that. If your able to give me a phone consultation or video I’m more than willing to compensate you. Thanks,
I have a z920 m and was experiencing the same symptoms that you are having and I removed the back cover and intake to the carburetor and on the carburetor there is a small metal tab on the top of the carburetor looks like a little freeze plug anyways it had come loose and was sucking air in the carburetor my mower would run fine and then it would start bucking and skipping then it would stop check out the carburetor and replace it
So, I have a z335e and when I start mine up the gas light immediately comes on. It’ll run about 20-25 minutes, sputter, and and die. Full gas tank. I went to check the fuel filter, and gas isn’t even really getting to the filter itself. If I leave it sitting there a few days, it’ll run for another 20-25 minutes. I checked for debris in the tank, cleared it out (so i thought) but I’m still having the same issue. Any ideas?
Hey Trevor, sorry for the delayed reply. Im just now seeinf your comment. ( My notifications were off). Is sounds like you have a slight clog in your fuel line that is letting a little fuel get by bit not enough to keep up with the engine's need. Blow out your fuel lines with compressed air. Also check your fuel tanks ventilation. Some models have vented gas caps and some have vent lines. After runnig for awhile if the tank is not venting the fuel pump will not be abke to pump the gas
I have a z930m that will mow for hour or better than die wont start like a dead battery. jump it than will start and than put on a charger. it is charging like it should but wondering if its the stator under the fly wheel. thanks!
Hi Tim, here is a video I made on how to check a mower's charging system. Your Z930 will work the same way as the mower in the video. ruclips.net/video/Xj1w8dWxapI/видео.html If your charging system is not working your blades will cut off before the engine dies. If your mower dies suddenly then you turn the key to restart it and nothing happens then I would bet its your ignition switch (key switch). If your key switch has the # AUC15805 then you need to get the new updated switch AUC18708. If your mower sputters and then dies then you may have tank ventilation issue or fuel issue.
@@Mechanical_Mind Good evening, I checked the stator and am getting 35 out of it at wide open throttle, still getting little over 14 volts at wide open throttle to battery, engage clutch and pulls it down to 13 and some change. Checked switch and its good. Battery is one year old and going to have it checked tomorrow. I wonder if it isn't the rectifirer going bad when it gets hot? Thanks for the advice!!
@@timdavison2417 those ignition switches will work intermittently and they cause all kinds of problems. When the mower dies does it die suddenly as if the switch was just turned off?
I have a z530r and ax360 John Deere. My x 360 would quit running after 30 minutes of mowing. I could start it back up in just a few minutes but again in about 10 or so minutes it would shut off again. So I started to change things out. First thing I changed was the fuel pump .it work pretty good for a while . Then it started to shut off again. I put a new egnition switch on. It had to be electrical. So finally I changed out the electronic control module . After that it seems that was the problem. I just bought a z530 r. 60 nachos cut Z trak it’s a great machine
First thing Id check for is a fuel line clog or kink in the line that is allowing a little bit of fuel to pass but not enough to keep up with the engine's needs. Whennit sits the fuel is still slowly getting past the clog or kink and that is why it will start up.
So far it’s working but it would run maybe and hour the shut off. If it continues I have to replace the safety switch under seat. Already cleared out gas cap . I Did read that some of the older models had problems with electronic control module
Good deal. I appericate your comments. Im going to give you a special shout out in my next video. I want to build a group of members on here that help each other out with helpful info. I often forget some things and you reminded me about the ventilation issue that I failed to mention. On the partical mower in this video I knew it was an electrical issue since it would shut off instantly without warning. I always try to get as many details from customers when they have an issue. I recently replaced a control module on a Z920 but its kinda rare compared to other issues.
@@Mechanical_Mind I have a x360 and just bought a Z530 R 60 inch . I also have a craftsman 54 inch with a kohler engine and the two John Deeres have a Kawasaki
Electronic control module ,ignition switch , gas cap not venting properly, safety switch under seat and fuel pump . All could be the problem of engine shutting down
All correct! The control module is a rare issue in my experience. Any time its an electrical issue ( module, ignition switch, sest switch etc) the engine will die suddenly. When its a fuel ( clogged line or ventilation) issue it will sputter and hesitate as it dies.
I have a 2016 John deere z960 and it starts and cuts but after about 15 minutes it backfires real loud and will cut off. Once the motor cools it will restart. What could this be?
I'd start by checking the coils using an in-line coil tester. They often stop working after getting hot but might work again after cooling off. Check the condition of the spark plugs for clues to what issues you have. There are pages online showing images of spark plugs and what is causing the issue. Also, check all your battery connections and wiring connections to confirm they are clean and tight. On a Z960, it wouldn't shock me if you are having an issue with your ignition switch or your seat safety switch. Both are common issues for killing the engine while cutting. If you have an EFI engine, you could have an issue with the high pressure fuel pump or control module.
Its either not getting gas or spark. If it starts for a second when you spray starter fluid or carb cleaner in the intake / airfilter when cranking the engine then that tell you its a fuel issue.
My z930 just started sputtering when cutting grass. Engine will die and choke itself down. All air filters are clean and unit has 127hours on it. Kawasaki 25.5 motor. This issue just started. No code lights present but just runs ragged under load. I ordered two coils offline but not sure of parts matching 100%
It sounds like you have fuel issue instead of a spark/ coil issue. How long does it take before the engine starts sputtering after you start the engine?
@@Mechanical_Mind i can full throttle at idle no issues and cut grass for 15min or so on a cold start and about 3-5 pnce hot. I jumped the seat switch nothing changed with that. Maybe trash in the fuel or clogged filters
@@jayvionfarrell4860 Its either your seat safety switch or the ignition switch. You can "jump" the seat switch to see if it runs without dying. In this video I show how to do that. If it still dies after you jump the seat switch then its most likely the ignition switch. Its also possible it could be the PTO switch going in and out but it more common to be the other two switches causing that
