More recently I came across your re-named channel, and have to say that it looks like you haven't aged! ... Me? I've aged about 12 years, but then I've not continued on with the super healthy lifestyle that you promote, although I do eat 'healthier' than the average person. Thank you so so much for this!! I am in awe that he uses per gram the same amount of seeds that I've seen other growers use on trays 2 times the size. Does he use about 20 grams for all of his small pans? If so, then how many grams does he use for a 10 x 20? I do like the density but curious about the number of grams it would take for a larger pan.

Jack, a handsome man, walked into a sports bar around 9:58 pm.
He sat down at the bar next to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and stared up at the TV as the 10 o'clock news came on.
The news crew was covering a story of a man on a ledge of a large building, preparing to jump.
Alexandria looked at Jack and said, "Do you think he'll jump?”
Jack said, "You know what, I bet he will.”
Alexandria replied, "Well, I bet he won't.”
Jack placed $30 on the bar and said, "You're on!”
Just as she placed her money on the bar, the guy did a swan dive off of the building, falling to his death.
She was very upset and handed her $30 to Jack, saying, "Fair's fair... Here's your money.”
Jack replied, "I can't take your money. I saw this earlier on the 5 o'clock news and knew he would jump.”
Alexandria replied, "I did too, but I didn't think he'd do it again.”
Jack took the money. Alexandria went back to work in the U.S. Congress.

I should point out that Vegas recycles their water and an RO system will NOT remove any pharmaceuticals that get recycled. I too installed an under the counter RO system, only to wonder why the water still didn't taste quite right. Then I found out about the recycling. I went back to drinking bottled water and use the RO only for watering plants. (Not sure if the plants absorb them or not.)
Now you can buy an electric distiller from Amazon that will give you pure water, but it takes around 5 hours to make a pot full, plus a lot of electricity.
I did buy an atmospheric water system (Aquaboy) from Home Depot. It makes water from air by collecting water dripping from condensation on refrigeration tubes, and cycles it through various filters and uses UV lights to kill off any bacteria. The concept is sound, but it's not ideal for Las Vegas because of the ultra low humidity that it depends on. While it's rated at 6 gallons per day max, it can only produce 1 gallon per day here in Nevada. If you live by the coast it would be ideal.

They should offer those trays in half sizes for markets....Only reason I suggest this is because you mentioned that he sold 1/2 a tray to one customer. I think people would be "apt" to trying more options for less of a price (new people looking to get into eating micro greens and don't want to buy too much and not like it and have to throw the rest away, more like "sampler" sizes) You could potentially charge more for buying less too, which in turn increases you're profits! Just an idea.

Yeah, that thought occurred to me too. Vegas doesn't seem very small-business friendly, with permits and licensing requirements up the wazoo. They require a permit for just about everything. I wanted to fill in my swimming pool as I never use it. You can't just fill it in with soil and start growing a lawn on it, needs a permit and it has to be jack-hammered into pieces, and inspected before and after filling. Replace your water heater (simple to do) - permit and inspection required. Put up a fence - permit and inspection. Paint the outside of your house - permit and inspection, (they know they can't enforce painting the inside of the house so they let it go). In our HOA, the paint color needs prior approval or they'll make you repaint if they don't like it. You also can't make major changes to your landscaping without prior approval.

Hi John, good video! I have a couple of questions for you... First, with Dustin's Rack set-up did it have a thermostat inside the unit that is directly hard wired to the air conditioner so that it maintains a constant temperature of 70 degrees? And secondly, is the exhaust of the air conditioner being vented outside or inside?

    • @growingyourgreens
      @growingyourgreens  6 лет назад +3

He had a thermometer inside the rack, but the control on the AC unit was set to the constant temperature. It would not be hard to set up a thermometer to control the AC. The AC vents inside. This is from what I am aware/observed. He is renting, so he probably can vent to outside easily.

I started sprouting a couple months ago after binge watching many of John's vids. and I'm glad I did. Super easy and I'm working to set up a diy grow shelf for more growing. You should invest in a setup.

Good question. John did a walk-through with city-hydro and they have kits for you if interested. Range from 160-190.
IMO, they're overpriced. The mark-up is around 300% more than what you can find by searching around.
To get started you'd likely want:
      Source: www.city-hydro.com/product-page/microgreen-homekit
      Basic Microgreen Home Kit -
      - 1 White 18"x12"x3" FoodSafe Tray
      - 1 Germination Lid
      - 1 Hydro-Spacer (NO CLUE ON WHERE TO FIND THIS)
      - 1 15.75in Long (400mm) Tube LED Lamp and power supply
      - 1 50 ml cup
      - 1 Wire Shelf 18"x9"x9"
      - 8 Coco Fiber Pads (substrate)
      - MicroGreen Seeds you prefer
      - 1 Water Spray Bottle, 24 oz.

Curious or how much better it is to use filtered /ro water since most ro units have pvc and plastics that can leach out into the water still

    • @karenwillison3987
      @karenwillison3987 4 года назад

I agree, leaching a concern. Also i went on a search for best price for a roll of the coco coir mat. Made in Sri Lanka as John has mentioned. Coco coir and 'natural rubber'. What? natural rubber. Wonder where that's sourced and of what. Natural is an allowable marketing term to sway attention. How much leaches in that purified water? Also i wouldn't think tossing the used once coconut coir mat into compost pile a good thing either until proven safe.
