Charlie Sykes: GOP “Absolutely Confident” That They Will Win in 2024 | Amanpour and Company

  • The Republican National Convention begins next week in Wisconsin. In many ways, the battleground state reflects the recent history of the GOP, with Republicans swinging more and more to the right, ending in a full-on embrace of Donald Trump’s MAGA policies. A close observer of this phenomenon is Charlie Sykes, founder of The Bulwark and a respected voice amongst never-Trump Republicans. Sykes joined Walter Isaacson to analyze what cards Republicans might play in the upcoming election, and what strategies Biden might adopt, post-debate.

Mass deportation would be another dog that caught the car moment. The disruption of the construction and agricultural industries due to labor shortages will increase prices. Supply and demand, the demand for goods will remain, but the ability to supply them will be reduced, therefore prices will increases on the fewer goods available.
If they were serious about actually dealing responsibly with immigration, they would have passed the bipartisan bill earlier this year, instead of keeping it a campaign issue. Passed the bill AND use the tools in the bill to DO something instead of using it as a wedge issue.

$2.13 an hour, for all tipped "service" workers, for 30 years, says there's no "labor shortage".
$7.25 an hour, for the general workers, says there's no "labor shortage".
Prices have already spiked, due to the incessant greed accommodated.
Industry entitlement to pocket the wage theft from an imported illegal work force glut, is a shortage of DOL and immigration law enforcement.
And that entitlement is the dog that caught the car moment. Trying to hide from the labor market disaster they've created, and the repercussions.

As someone who lived in Wisconsin and campaigned there in 2018 Charlie does not mention the electoral map is so heavily gerrymandered there that its very difficult for Democrats to get true representation. I have utmost respect for Charlie Sykes I just wish he'd talk about Wisconsin giving a little more of this context as I know Charlie knows this.

    • @buzoff4642
      @buzoff4642 Месяц назад

Yes, we've let "the parties" own our voting processes, and they reflect the two parties' interests. Root cause of us losing control over "representation".
      "gerrymandering" alone:
Democrats with Open Borders and "sanctuary cities", which skew allocation of House of Representative seats (gerrymander the population, expand non-voter count).
Republicans with gerrymandering of the district definitions, and via felonizing the typically D demographics and prison location in R districts, which skew the allocation of House of Representative seats.
Then there's elector gerrymander, state laws that eliminate the 49% voters by committing electors to voting for the 51% winner of their state.

❌. He sent an email to his supporters just prior to the rally saying, 'All hell will break loose in one hour'. What on earth did he mean by that? Could this have been staged?

Hey, Milwaukee, remember Trump trashed your city, and for Gods sake I hope you got paid upfront to host the GOP convention. Trump has a nasty habit of not paying his bills.

To all conservative pro-lifers out there, one question. How many of you are willing or have adopted a child? From the conservatives I have asked this question none were willing to do that. But they are willing to elect state officials that will gladly cut funding for care of orphan children and the public education of all children. I suppose the next thing you will vote for is Work Houses for orphan children so they somehow pay their own way.

I've had similar response to the same question.
"pro-life" hypocrisy extends in multiple directions. Guns all around, for "self-protection", religious skew "Kill they neighbor!". Pro war. Pro death penalty.
Similar with complaints of "Big Government", but a-okay with their creepy perv legislative fixation on sex, gender, control over uteruses, etc.

To supplement your reasons for political change I'll add social and psycological matters. People want to feel good, unleashed to act on their hidden bigotries within a grop that agree with their views. The dictator in orange gives them a feeling of power.

Donald Trump is more of a centrist. He didn’t go for the right just his policies are loved by the country and you got a problem with that.
