Double decker trains are needed for busy routes on busy times. Making the train longer would force the platform to be longer, if the space to do so is there it would still mean a longer walk to the next train, so the schedulefor connections can't be as tight.

It's a fact that there are more bikes than people, I live alone and I own 3 bicycles. @3:00 And yes, most of the areas where you can park your bicycles, it's free, there may be a few exceptions like underground parking garages or guarded parkings.
As a Dutch person: Don't forget that you may have a smaller home, but if you stay away from the major cities, you can rent a house for 300-400 dollar per month, that has 2 bedrooms at least and all conveniences. for 500 per month (Dollars and Euros counted as same value) you have a back and front garden and 4 bedrooms. Amsterdam and major cities will be much more expensive. Besides that, if your rent is up to 615 euros, you get rentsurcharge back from the government, up to 300 euros, so you still pay max 400. Buying can be 75K - 200K for the same house. Which is rather cheap, you only pay about 10% and the rest you pay over time .. say 20 years. and you can take that value of course as mortgage. Lot of people rent, as its so cheap, but investing in housing can be really lucrative as most places can expect a raise in value of 20% in 10 years, especially if you did some restructuring.
One problem the American suburbs have is that they are only for living, I think those will improve a lot with some bikeable or walkable commercial areas and off course save ways to get there
Dude.. brazil is 205 times bigger than NL.. So the population density of Brazil in 2022 was 25.28 people per square kilometer,,, The population density of Netherlands in 2022 was 422.82 people per square kilometer.. lol🤔
The Dutch are tall because of genetics, and food (dairy products). As for the pronounciation of "Oosterscheldekering" the last -kering part was good. The first part needs a lot of practice still, I am afraid.
16:55 More or less, yes. Back when we were mostly agricultural, the farmers’ movement was powerful enough to dictate government policies. It still is to a decisive amount. So when the NL got gas and industry and such, way back, they steered the country towards food production. Just looking after number one, of course, but it was actually a smart move. NASA may have got to the moon, Russia may have a lot of tanks, but we have food. What do you need most?
It actually makes a lot of sense why homes in Europe (and Asia etc) are small and homes in the USA and Canada are large. In Europe the community is more tight, people go outside more often, you go to the city center to grab a drink spontaneously, or go out to eat on the terrace, in cities like Barcelona you have those beautiful little plazas where locals sit together and get some shade from the heat. The people go to the 'third place' as Not Just Bikes explained in a video recently. People are much more often outside. On top of it, you don't need it at home - because in the USA the library is most likely not nearby you, you'd have to drive. Or the pool, the grocery store, you can't be like 'hey let's meet in the city center' and decide 'you know what? Let's go eat at a restaurant then grab a movie' and go on foot, like we can. You'd have to drive, most likely to both locations. Which is really unfortunate. So, American people bring it home, because that is the most convenient. It makes total sense, I would too if I had to drive to the library, drive to do groceries, drive to get a drink, drive to eat, drive to the movies, drive drive drive. And quite far too let's be honest. It's ridiculous. If I just consider for a moment what I've got near by to do on foot (radius of 5 minutes) it's insane. A pool, gym, library, like 20 stores from glasses to shoes to children's clothes to a bike shop, gp, dentist, pharmacy, 4 grocery stores, 5 (!) preschools, 2 high schools, a cinema, theater (you know, for the classic drama kids), soccer hockey and tennis fields on the other side, oh and I forgot a train station. And I'm on the highway in less than 5 minutes too. We have a really small refrigerator because I can walk, so me and my SO tend to pick up things we need on our way home from work. It's maybe 5-10 minutes, while a lot of American people would be away for an hour just to buy food. I totally get it why they have a big refrigerator. But of course you want a big house too, because it would never fit here lol. We don't need all that at home. I hope what I wrote kind of made sense? Like, how people tend to go on vacation to visit places and have nice activities, we do that in our daily life too especially on the weekends. Our vacations or daily life is actually fairly similar, the only thing removed is our job and we're somewhere else where we get to experience the history and culture of that place. But we do the same stuff. So yeah, zero blame, I totally get it. But personally? Me and my SO had a choice to live in a very large house (very large for Dutch standards), or live smaller but with basically everything we could wish for near. We choose to live smaller instead. Still have a decent garden, but the convenience to walk or bike whenever wherever and just walk to the train station and end up in Paris, Amsterdam, in England or Berlin is so powerful, we couldn't care less for that 'extra space'. But in the USA, you rarely have this choice at all. So the choice is an easy one, of course you'd go bigger. (Idk about Brazil much though, I've not been there yet, but the UK has lovely homes as well, really cozy and the people are so nice!).
I’m afraid it’s all about zoning. People in Europe go out to bars etc. bc they are nearby. In the US and Canada there primarily is single house zoning, where ‘third places’ aren’t allowed.
@@abel6846 Yeah I know and it's absolutely ridiculous. I hope they reconsider zoning laws and make additional nuances to it to make suburbs livable spaces again with a third place here and there.
Hmm not alot of people in the Netherland 17.4 milion in a verry tiny country , most dencly populated country in europe . With out counting Russia , its Europes 9th most populated country romania has 19 milion at place 8 and is several times bigger. it has half the population numbers of Poland . Not many people is a bit of misnomer as there are 545 people per km2 .
There is a lot of water in the Netherlands. I first also had my swimming certificates A, B, C. and extra Redding swimming certificates. and my boat license 10 months before my driver's license. hi im a dutchy from Amsterdam. 2.40 the commute as discribed is in all the big cities and many small cities, not only in Amsterdam and we dont bike to the trams and busses maybe only to long distance busses and definitely to the trains because public transport is everywhere and the outside parking is free and most indoor bike parking is free for the first 24 hours and than a few euros for every day after. 5.00 about 10.000-15.000 bikes are stolen every year in Amsterdam alone. there are criminal organisations (mostly from other countries in europe) that roam the streets with small vans that steel bikes to export them and the occational junky in need of a fix might steel a bike and sell it 5.30 the protest movement against cars called stop de kindermoord ( stop the childmurders) didnt start in rotterdam but in amsterdam but it spread all over the country 6.10 the height of the dutch comes from natural selection (large people are attracted to large people and get large children) 10.40 that is the same Antwerp indeed 14.40 Presidents traveling to different countries to find solutions for the problems in their countries would be awesome. the world would be so much better if we help each other out but im afraid its not going to happen in our lifetime or ever, i really ike your videos thank you
Cycling does not influence the hight of a person, however stress during pregnancy does, women with less stress give birth to children that grow taller. It could be that cycling reduces stress, so it might have an indirect influence.
The Netherlands has the highest percentage of home births of all the western, industrialized countries. Maybe giving birth at home reduces stress far enough to end up with the tallest population of the world. 🙄
Im 6.23 into your video atm. Im Dutch, I live at the bottom of the former Southernsea~18 ft below sea level. Our country is for about 40% below sea level, the NL is essentialy a river delta. We have to have a good infrastructure against the water, that needed good planning ahead. It needs to be maintained and upgraded well. Im not tall 174 cm and shrinking, biking does not help getting tall😁 Biking is healthy, relaxing, quite silent and cheap, cars needs lots of space, they polute, make noise etc. So many reasons why the NL is reasonably well planned, mostly because we i.g.were/are quite pragmatic. ' You can only spend your money once' is a very Dutch expression😊
Funnily enough, the Dutch were present in Brazil in the 17th century: Dutch Brazil (Dutch: Nederlands-Brazilië), also known as New Holland (Dutch: Nieuw-Holland), was a colony of the Dutch Republic in the northeastern portion of modern-day Brazil, controlled from 1630 to 1654 during Dutch colonization of the Americas. The main cities of the colony were the capital Mauritsstad (today part of Recife), Frederikstadt (João Pessoa), Nieuw Amsterdam (Natal), Saint Louis (São Luís), São Cristóvão, Fort Schoonenborch (Fortaleza), Sirinhaém, and Olinda. (From the Wikipedia article on Dutch Brazil). Unfortunately the Portuguese kicked us out in 1654, though we did try to get our former holdings back until we finally gave up in 1661.
The Dutch sailors were the first to exploit the things they see in the world.Lots off colonies, but later on captured by the Spanish.Only a few were left to the Netherlands.
Living in the Netherlands much of the mentioned infrastructure is under stress these days. Like a Dutch civil engineer remarked some time ago - The Netherlands were designed to house about 12 million people comfortably - we are are no approaching the 18 million mark. Worse - much of the Dutch infrastructure is geared to servicing Germany and the actual economic benefit the Dutch of all this is rather questionable.
Why?????It always goes. About "North "and "South"! Holland? And not about the Netherlands? Elburg, Harderwijk, Nijkerk. Spakenburg, Houses and Naarden! Oh yeah! Someone. Has thought of throwing Flevoland in front of our door. Take a good look at the map from then and now! Greetings from Spakenburg, the Netherlands.
1:24 what we call a coffeeshop (used to be called a tearoom) doesn’t sell coffee. Well, it probably does if you ask, but they’ll give you an oldfashioned look. It sells weed. Cannabis isn’t prohibited here, in small amounts. But the worldwide opinion that we go around all day stoned like skunks couldn’t be more wrong. Weed is looked upon as something you might smoke when you’re in your tweens. Then you grow up. Get over it already
Utrecht is pronounced like you did but the u is pronounced like the u in youtube. The bikes that get stolen are mostly e-bikes nowadays. They sell for 1000 euros or more depending on what brand it is. You can get normal bikes (used) for under 50 euros here, sometimes even for free. The reason we're so tall is because evolution, tall people were more fit and heathier then short people so we outbread short people. You did great on the oosterscheldekering pronunciation! better then the guy in the other video. the oo sound at the beginning is more like the oa sound in boat and the sch in schelde is like... I don't know an english word to compare that with... oh yes, the sh sound at the end of English is pretty close.
- There's to many people in the Netherlands😅 or the country is just to small. - Your dutch was pretty good. - Belgium used to be part of the Netherlands untill they split in 1830.
Don't compare the size of the US with 300+million people to The Netherlands. The population density is quite different, we have more people per square feet as the US.

You are wrong! The Netherlands is almost the most dens city of the world!Yes...city!Just a 10 milion more ant there are no diferences anymore between the villages and the cities! So dens it wil be.So the number of people doesnt matter, the number off people on the squire kilometers is essential. And it is U trecht, not Oe trecht. And we are so tall because when there comes a flood,we can still keep our heads above the water!!😆
You pronounced that pretty well ! Yep that is how you pronounce it, sort of ..... with 92 percent accuracy ! Way to go Brazillian man ! But then again you are from Brazil so no surprise there, your g though is the g we will hear in the northern part of the Netherlands, where the g is hard the more south you go the softer it gets, even further ...in Belgium ..... oeh the girls over there have a VERY sexy g oehhhh.... so anyways ... way to go ! That is how you pronounce it.... 92 percent accuracy I mean I take it .... if you know how the yanks and English TRY to speak Dutch.... I mean THE 2 nations that REALLY suppose to do a LOT better after Dutch penetration over the last 400 years but you know what humans are like : LACK OF INTEREST and respect !!!! But your Utrecht is good yes very good ! I mean hell yes I take it ! The best Dutch I heard from any foreigner ! Seu holandês parece bom! Por favor, continue assim! Talvez tenha sido bom que nós, holandeses, tenhamos dado o Brasil aos portugueses há 350 anos!
You want our engineers ? Sure show meeeeeeeeee the money !!!!! hi hi hi hi 😃 Dutch engineering doesn't come cheap my friend it is the best in the world, so how deep are your pockets ?
@@TeacherPaulReacts Ohhhhh then and besides Brazil got rid of that awful CIA puppet Bolsonaro so ya know what ? We will send you a couple of engineers on the house what about that ? Naaa no worries, we are already there we are now operational in 140 countries, and how can we skip Brazil ? Couple of hundred years ago we were kicked out by the Portuguese but guess we are back 😉😉

Why would you need a big house with a big yard if everything you will even need is just around the corner, a walking distance away?

330 million people in the us right teacher??
idd, so much for real knowledge
Poor children

Bikes are the most stolen thing that are reported to the police.
Since the obesity rate of the US population is at least 40%, you are more likely to meet an American who is obese than one that owns a bike.

Your question 'are they're going to steal a bike?' Uhm yeah, that's a national hobby, lol. Bikes are being stolen CONSTANTLY.
We have a king
sori thought u lived in the states but u said london but in the uk live 80/100 miljoen
you don't need a big house. !!!
It is a small country
You are wrong! The Netherlands is almost the most dens city of the world!Yes...city!Just a 10 milion more ant there are no diferences anymore between the villages and the cities! So dens it wil be.So the number of people doesnt matter, the number off people on the squire kilometers is essential. And it is U trecht, not Oe trecht. And we are so tall because when there comes a flood,we can still keep our heads above the water!!😆
Ik netherlands
'Where did that come from'? Take a good look in your mirror?
You don't have to pay for the first 24 hours.
