  • Knowing when to change (or adjust) your stained glass grinder bit can be tough because it degrades so slowly. I'll show three different ways to tell it's time to adjust it, and how to change your bit too.
    You'll need an allen wrench (you'll get a new one with each bit) & don't forget your safety glasses!
    I'm a fan of Gryphon brand diamond bits. They fit Gryphon, Inland, & Glastar grinders.
    If you're a beginner, the Gryphon Gryphette is the best choice for size, price, & quality.

      @@mountainwomanproducts Well, I did actually glean some useful info from your video, so thank you. I did particularly enjoy the sound effects, however I was a bit miffed when near the end you say how important it is to tighten the set screw - I was hoping to hear some sort of whizzzzzing sound as it flew off the grinder, through the air, across the room and hit the cat! Sorry, couldn't help myself 😋💖

    I've heard you should put oil on the shaft so the grinder bit won't freeze up. If so, where exactly does the oil go, and what kind of oil? Thanks 😊

    • @mountainwomanproducts
      @mountainwomanproducts  Год назад

      Oh no I'm sorry I missed this one! I've heard that as well...I've never used oil & haven't had an issue. Buuuut, I do think that the quality of bit you buy makes a difference. Some of the cheapie bits are made with pot metal & those can get stuck because they oxidize. If you want to use oil, you'd put it on the end of the shaft, right where the bit would go (though the water is going to wash some of it away).
      I use Gryphon Bits which can be used on most brands of grinders😀

    I have an allen wrench that came with mine but it doesn’t fit and I don’t know why, I’m pretty sure it’s too big. What can I use to tighten the bit back on?

    • @mountainwomanproducts
      @mountainwomanproducts  5 месяцев назад

      Sounds like either your wrench or your set screw are rounded out (most likely the allen wrench...they're only made for temporary use since ya get a new one with every bit, so generally not super high quality metal). If you're using a new Gryphon Brand bit, you can get a 3/32" allen wrench from the hardware store or amazon. If you're using the original Gryphon Brand bit that came with your grinder (not a replacement bit), then you need a 5/64" allen wrench.
      The wrenches usually come in a set of a bunch of sizes. Let me know if you have any other troubles😃

      The wrench used with the bit that came with your grinder and the wrench that comes with separately purchased bits are usually different, this is the case with Gryphon grinders and bits.

      Yuppers! The bit that came with the grinder takes a 5/64" and replacements bits take a 3/32". @@matthewwolfe6848

    How do you un seized a grinder bit. I hadn’t taken mine off for a long time but the screw comes out but the the not the bit😢

    • @mountainwomanproducts
      @mountainwomanproducts  Год назад

      Oh no! I don't know the answer to that...I'll ask around & see if I can get some info for ya! I do know that ya have to watch the quality of bit you're getting. Some of the cheaper ones are made out of junky metal and I've heard of problems with them seizing to the shaft.

      Unfortunately, sometimes so much buildup of grinded powdered glass left unchecked can set up between the shaft and the bit that a kind of fusing of the bit to the shaft takes place. Stay away from bits that are not brass as well, so called chrome or stainless steel bits are junk and rust quickly.
