He just proves that all you need to do is stay behind and under the ball, you don’t need to crank it. Such a talented individual.
C. S. This also proves just because the hottest bowlers in the world in two handed it doesn’t mean that because he is two handed you want to be like him. It’s all about consistency not about power or hook
He cranked it when he was younger he only doesn’t do it now because it will hurt his back cause he’s old
He even says he needed to learn how to hook the ball because the lanes and equipment changed as he went through the years.
Almost like what we should be allowed to do in rba but no we have to crank the hell out of the ball
@@jeffgorebowling My comment got pinned take that Bingo
I respect Norm Duke so much. He pours his heart and soul into every match he bowls. It inspires me to see how much he loves this sport and how passionate he is about it and how much hard work he puts into it. Definitely one of my favorite, if not my favorite bowlers of all time.
If you're a fan of Bowling Planet, every time the intro plays you quote "Well there he is again"
That win at the Indianapolis open in 2019 it’s a moment I will always remember! Just the day before I was down in Indy getting his autograph and chatting with him about bowling the tournament. The next day I woke up pumped as hell to watch Norm bowl on TV. My dad and I sat down in the living room and turned on our massive flat screen for the big moment! When he won I literally jumped off the couch screaming “YEEEEES!” I will always remember that day and cherish it for the rest of my life!
I had a conversation and a beer with Norm in 2003. Also got his autograph and a picture with him. Great ambassador to the SPORT of bowling and a extremely nice & humble person. Should have been in the HOF a lot sooner.
Everytime I see the ending to the Indianapolis open I cry. It gets me everytime.
At what timestamp is this?
@@ryuuacross2329 10:22
Norm had to beat both Malott and Belmonte; and at that time, they were really hot and moving up quickly.
Norm showed the young ones that the old schoolies can still do it
The 2011 US Open...always hard to watch that ending. 2019 Indy Open...tears. What a guy.
1:07 jeez Patrick Allen used to be as skinny as a skeleton
I was about to say that hahaha
PA used to be so young
One of the sports greatest
Boy it was amazing watching Norm win his 40th Title! I was behind the approach couldn't ask for a better view and saw myself on camera a few times in this one it was a great honor to watch on of the bowling legends and win!!
My Favorite Bowler of all Time! He aged gracefully! Such composure and calmness! He gives his heart and soul into all his games! I have great respect and admiration for this Man!
Norm duke is such a good guy
Thanks for the memories Dobie 20 ,July 2023 loved it❤
What a legend,I still can't believe that I got to meet this guy, take a picture with him, and get his autograph
9:51 Randy: He's gotta make it. He is a good spareshooter.
Me at 9:59 : *BRUH!* Randy's JINX strikes again! 😂😂
The curse of Bo Burton all over again
After Norm retired recently; I've been going back remembering all the best parts of his career.
The matches between him and Mika were some of the most intense matches I've ever experienced. Watching them live back then; you were chewing your nails off.
My favorite bowler of all time. Thank you Norm. And I'll miss you
I remember walking into Hart Bowl in Dallas at 15, Norm was 16. I knew there was something about him even then. Del Ballard bowling then as well.
The Wee Iceman/Giant.
One of bowling sports greatest, always gentle, humble and polite: What an athlete.
Love You Norm!☮️❤️🎳
He had a good run from the beginning❤ thanks for the memories Dobie
“cOmE oN tEn piN!”
Ahhh love Rob Stone
Norm Duke has been my favorite bowler since I first started bowling in the early 90s. But man; Ryan Shafer was a close second. I felt so bad for him; he had as many bad breaks as Chris Barnes in pressure matches.
Norm Duke my bowling school and big respect for all players thank you for the video
2:19 I have NO IDEA why I said TOC instead of World Championship 😅😅
Bowling Planet when is your next upload
Oh, that's why I felt confused on that part. It was the World Championship, not the TOC. 😊😊
True legend! For me his biggest wins were his last two for sure, where he literally swam against the flows of the power players and won against the world's best. He's the living proof that bowling is not about physical talent, but about dedication and guts to face the biggest foes without trembling. What a man!
You know people clicked off the video early because off the last clip 😂
lol the end 😂
My favorite bowler of all time! Thanks so much!
Norm Duke is just a top class sportsman. I competed against him and you could tell he was on a different level than the rest of the players. Much more control over what was going on out there, and would make 240 plus look easy on a condition where 220 was a good score. And I am talking a field with with Couch and alot of guys with regional titles.
This was the Bowler my grandmother made me watch the most growing up. Taught me accuracy over power can get it done.
Norm has bowled so good I played against him on a no PBA SHOW and he beat me 258-218 I got 218
I want to bowl like Norm when I grow up.
Norm Duke is my best player in bowling. Not just a champion in this sport. but also, millions of fans loved him.
The fact that he beat jason belmonte is a massive feat in itself. He’s been the world number 1 for quite a few years
Love seeing that up 5, 6 ,7 shot. Good old school shot making.
What a great guy as well
I think he is legend lived
Fun fact: Norm won the 1991 Tuscon Open, which was when Jess Stayrook made the 7-10 split.
Another fun fact: during that telecast, Norm started changing his pace when bowling on TV. Before then, he would always take his time to make sure everything was perfect.
This guy is the bowling god
It’s so funny hearing the stories about how he’s picky he is and is probably the most picky on the PBA tour but that’s what makes him a legend
Fav bowler
300 against Walter ray could’ve been on this list too
With the 2011 US Open, the scores were ALMOST EXACTLY THE SAME as the 2008 US Open:
Norm Duke 2008: 224
Mika Koivuniemi: 216
Norm Duke 2011: 225
Mika Koivuniemi: 216
A true legend of the sport 🎳❤
Great video about a great bowler
I really feel like the 2008 World Championship is one of the most forgotten bowling “what if’s” ever. If Shafer won, he would finally (and deservedly, by the way, he’s by far the unluckiest bowler ever) have won a major, and may have won the 2011 World Championship if he had won it in ‘08, and Duke, well, who knows what would’ve happened.
Top 3 favorite pros of all time for me
I love the sound of wood lanes
4:45 Aaaaah, that beautiful pin carry at Northrock.
THANK YOU NORM!
Evertime u watch the intro is well there he is again and if ur a fan and u watch bowling plant’s videos all the time the intro is well there he is again
That messenger from 2:31 should be featured in PBS messengers and lucky strikes part 2
This video is amazing norm duke is the best
So versatile!
Yess norm duke
Sorry I missed the premiere 🙃 anyway I have an idea. For your 10k special (or 9k) you should have your subs send you clips of them bowling and you could make a compilation. Anyway nice vid
Great idea, but the current situation in our world makes it quite difficult. ALMOST ALL of the Bowling allies in my country are shut. ☹️☹️
VideoGamingFan Yeah I know hopefully when he reaches 10k more will be open
Norm duke
G.o.a.t
The 2019 Indianapolis Open is actually his 1st SINGLES title in 8 years. I watched the show. His previous title beforehand was the 2015 Doubles with Wes Malott
Loved it. 👍🏻
I would have no doubt in my mind that Norm is a great bowler.
At 12:31 i saw this on pba bad breaks and mistakes
Same
It takes everything you have and then some to be the best at anything. Winning titles against the greatest bowlers in the world falls right into that category.
I really have a good feeling he's gonna either tie or beat Walter Ray in titles
Edit: This aged well. He's retiring now..
Thank you Norm, great guy…
That messenger from 2:55 is gonna be featured in pba messengers and lucky strikes part 2
love the outro.
8:37 This hurts a lot as Finn
anyone know what Norm Duke's last name is? I can't remember
I think it’s “booo” the crowd keeps saying it after he bowls ):
@@robertsuoberon3141 they don’t say booooo, they say “Duuuuuuke”
@@mau88ize that was the joke haha
☺☺☺
Another great video! Could you please explain to me though what the exemption is?
It was a points based system, the better you finished in the events the more points you earned, if you won a title you were exempt from having to meet the point threshold for the next season and didn’t have to go thru the tour qualifying rounds, if you won a major you were exempt for 2 years no matter where you finished in any other tournament for that season or the next. I forget what the cut off was but I think the top 32(?) were exempt the next season from having to go the tour qualifying rounds
@@johngosline7990 gotcha. Is that system still in place?
Yup! Norm had a thigh injury around that time which meant he wasn't able to bow his best which was why he almost lost his exemption. I'm not sure if they use that system anymore.
@@Bowling_Planet you mean he wasn’t able bowl instead of bow
To me Duke is the Greg Maddux of bowling. Didn't need massive velocity or crazy break to do great things with a ball. He just knew how to place it exactly where it needed to be.
Mika still practicing his ten pin shot😂😂😂
2:04 that is actually the 2007 wc not the 2008 wc
what is exemption in bowling?
Every time ppl talk about a tour stop where they’re wide open and it’s a carry fest, I can’t tell you the amount of times from several ppl I’ve heard say “well if they were tough every week Norm would just be on all the shows”. That dude could stand at 40 and slow hook it or pipe it up 2 & had absolute ice water in his veins.
It was sad to see norm retire. I wish he could have went out with a win but oh well it’s just Simos time rn
Humble Duke deserves it all..
How many U.S opens did Norm Duke won
They were Bowling very good
DUKE!!!
What does exemption mean?
It’s weird thinking about the fact that he used to be young
Why do some part of the videos are quiet?
10:00 me like ... "... ahhhh... what?" Even the best pros do unbelievable things.
I wonder if norm hit a 29th televised 300 game
Francois Lavoie did that recently so that sadly didnt happen :P
What does it mean when they mention something about an exemption during the 2000s?
Basically in order to bowl on the tour, you need what's called an exemption. It's basically like your ticket to be able to bowl at a PBA event. If you don't do well enough for an entire season or you drop out for an entire season, you lose that exemption and won't be able to compete the following season. Norm might've had a bad season before that World Championship because of a thigh injury so he almost lost his exemption. Hope this helps! 😊
@@Bowling_Planet thanks!
Can't wait!!!
You need to make one episode about that poor guy Ryan Shafer's all major losses.
And Chris Barnes
Let's not see that.
This should be a tribute to Norm duke, and no he did not die, he is retiring.
The Urethane King
2:18 his face is similar to Mr Bean somehow
DUKEEEEEEEEEEE
Most shocking sight: Norm’s first win, a young Patrick Allen or Major Mika with blonde highlights?
How do you not have his televised 300?
He didn't win the tourney though.
at 10:23 where it says that first title in 8 years that is false, he won the pba doubles championship for his 39th career title in 2013 and in 2015. so what is unscripted is wrong
He won doubles titels in 2011 and in 2015. And in the 2011-2012 season he won 3 titels: Roth Holman doubles as i mention. Detroi Open and The Dick Weber Playoffs. But these 2 tournaments where not televised but it was on Xtraframe (now flobowling). 😉🎳
Wasn't the point it was all of Norm's SINGLES titles?
I'm curious as to what caused Norm to slip at 12:37.
he probably loss balance trying not to foul
Looking forward, but is it possible to change the timing, as it will premiere at 2AM for me tomorrow? 🙏🙏
Unfortunately, I won't be able to! I'm testing out different times and once I set a premiere time, it's not changeable. I apologize for the inconvenience.
@@Bowling_Planet Understandable, thank you for the reply. 🎳🎳 Even though I won't be in the premiere, I will be able to watch it tomorrow regardless, and I know you have put a lot of editing and effort into making this. 😊😊 Looking forward, please stay safe, and see you later. 😊👍❤️🎳🎳❤️👍😊
Not long after watching the 2022 Elias Cup Finals, this video popped up on my feed. Thank you, Norm, for your legacy. We’ll miss seeing you on the Tour. 🥲❤️
Hoo!
This is gonna be good. Especially because He has like 40 title. See which ones u think are the most important
They're all important.
Norman! 😂
Duuukeeeeee
You should do bowling fails.
