  • The Making Of A Chair / From Concept To Reality. I'll take you through the process of what it takes to design and build a chair from scratch. Drawing the concept, making the templates, cutting, assembly, the agonizingly slow process of Danish Cord weaving and finishing the piece. The concept and design comes from the combination of the classic wooden boat designers like Herreshoff and the modern wood sailboats from companies like Spirit yatchts. I've always loved timeless combination of the contemporary yet classic designs. A shout out to a few other craftsman that I took inspiration from for this project: Sam Maloof , @morningworks, @philipmorleyfurniture, @Morito.ebine, @garawood, and @benriddering.

      Thank you.... That chair was probably on the top 3 of the more technical projects I’ve ever done. ... and time consuming. I think I had 10hrs or more in just weaving.

    Hi there! Amazing work! How long did all the process take?
    I'll study and practice in the future to become a craftsman.

    • @ShalohaCreations
      @ShalohaCreations  6 месяцев назад +1

      Hi lmgroch, thanks for watching my video. The chair, because it was a prototype took far longer than it should have. I had about 10hrs just in weaving the cording. And probable another 10-15 in the design and build of wood portion. I love the process, so it was worth it. If I did it again I could probably cut the time down by at least half. 👍

    WOW! that is one beautiful chair. got inspired to do one.... Can you point to resources showing how to do the back (two-sided weave)? couldn't find good instructions on this. Great work!

    • @ShalohaCreations
      @ShalohaCreations  3 года назад +1

      Thanks Izak… I don’t have any good resource to show how to do the double wrap, but it’s basically the same as the single. Instead of wrapping around a nail and going back over the top, you just keep wrapping around the frame. If you decide to build one and get stuck at that point, let me know and I will try and give you better help..👍🤙. I may have to do a video on this ;) Like you I had a hard time finding good resources for it.

      @ShalohaCreations  Год назад

      Thanks Zack.. I originally designed it as a lounge chair that would have a foot stool. If I built another I would raise the angle of the back so that it wouldn’t lay back as far like a more traditional porch chair 🤙

      @@ShalohaCreations Good to know about the back. I wondered about that. I started drawing mine out today. I was questioning how far back I should make the angle.
