I quit this year. More and more goofy crap from prosecutors, worthless nonsense from the state, done with it.
Never going back. Calls and dealing with chaos on the street was never the problem. Dealing with chaos from the department, the state, and the city officials, not worth it.
I get paid more to do way less with no shift work and no working weekends, no getting bit by crackheads, spit on, cussed out, almost hit by stupid drivers, interventions into people's pathetic romantic entanglements, done.

People are told that police and corrections officers have wonderful retirement programs, however people who try to switch into these careers from Social Security covered work see a huge retirement penalty: WEP. This may sound fair if you listen to the BS the Social Security Administration tells you, but it's not. Nobody should be penalized for trying to supplement their Social Security with a state retirement any more than they're punished for supplementing it with a military retirement, 401k or any other funds that were not taxed FICA. Not-so-fun fact: the average life expectancy of a CO is age 61. Before they can even collect early Social Security more than half of them are dead-often from stress-related causes.
