  • OpenAI has warned developers in China it will begin blocking their access to its tools and software from July, local media reported, suggesting the ChatGPT creator is taking a more active stance to bar users from nations where it doesn’t offer services. Honestly really dumb move. I understand it, but nothing creates progress in other nation's LLMs like consumer frustration. Literally the censoring of chatgpt is how the chinese models have gotten good, and now they're pulling this on all devs in the country, lol. Not a good idea, but maybe it is idk. Recently openai hasn't been at their smartest, this is yet again another thing that will have consequences. Hope that chairman was worth it, maybe they should try bringing illya back.

The Open AI LLM might cause civil unrest in China because the LLM has embedded US state propaganda in it. Plus, China has a tendency to use tech to increase human rights abuses. It's better if China simply just develops their own LLMs.

While it is truly impressive what China has achieve in 20 years, the fact that this happened with the full cooperation of the Western world in general and the US in particular should not be denied. It will be entirely a different matter when the US and it's allies go all out to deny China the technology it needs to continue to grow and excel. We'll know in 20 years how and if China continues to be an aspiring super power.

Disposable military drones don't require high end CPU's / GPU's for LLM's. It's all about large scale manufacturing, which China excels at. Cranking out 10K drones per day is doable for China. Is it possible for the U.S? 😉

Drone swarms were a thing 10 years ago, you must be new to this for you to ask this question. Even I saw the potential back then so I would be highly surprised if military experiments never took place on it. So to answer your question, if the US sees the need it will and can ramp up production. You must be mistaken when it comes to military capabilities.
