Been a trucker for 40 + years and when Ben mentioned the smoke in the yard and the 2 AM departure it hit home with me. I don't know what it is but leaving a yard in the middle of the night when nobody is on the road is a feeling I'll always love.
Amen to that! We own the night👍
Takes me back to my youth. 1956 Kenworth with custom built 290 Cummims with a 6 speed main, a 4 speed aux AND 2 speed rear ends. My uncle built it from several wrecks and was the truck I learned to drive on. The first year I just rode around in it and help work on it. Second year I spend learning how to drive it, but never alone. Third year I went out alone but he always came along with his new truck hauling two load to the same area. Fourth year I was on my own. We retired the Kenworth, I got his "new" 358 Peterbuilt and he bought a new "A" Model Kenworth. It lead to a more than 40 year career in trucking.
Yea man... In the 70s I was running a 1693 TA cat and she would fill the whole neighborhood with smoke when it was cold... Even blow smoke rings!
Remember those days from long ago. Leaving in the middle of the night and rolling through the darkness all alone. It was magical.
I use to haul milk. Leave anywhere from 10 pm to 2 am. Always less hectic.
I’m so glad that mr Senter explained what a real 2 stick truck is when you can shift a 6+4 and a 5+4 your not one of the nit wits that use a second stick instead of a splitter button and if you’ve ever been in the middle of the desert with both sticks against the dashboard and your right foot on the floor in the left lane you really have know idea what real truck driving is It’s something that old guys like me cherish and consider the great days of truckdriving
Right on Jack!
I agree with you Jack!
Amen 👍👍
Yep and you ain't never been trucking unless you've been passed by an old refer hauler up hill through the Cascade mountains in old 359 Pete with a souped up V8 CAT either brother!
@@powderriver2424 as long as you have a brakesaver to come down the hills so you don’t heat the brakes up but I’ve passed a few refer boys also hauling electronics and shows for 3-way van lines if you might recognize that name you have an idea of some real trucks if not google it
What a great guy Ben is. Super knowledgeable and humble. And he can run through the gears like a madman. That was one of your best videos ever!
Couldn't agree more!
I couldn't have said it better!
Had couple 10-20 x's
with truck driver who drove split shifting duce and 1/2's on jungle roads in VietNam...on supply duties... his comment to my "learning" curve from our motor pool... was something like..move over, stop...change seats...hold on, hold my beer, and find something to hold onto...
Proceeded to say this is how to split shift this (bit^#) ....turned off the desert road we were traveling on in A,z usa....up and down bull dosed .outai
Fire trails cut into the rever va
I was watching Ben's leg and I didn't see any clutching going on during all that shifting,, believe in old school that your butt" in the seat and your ears tuned to the sound of the engine,,the tachometer and clutch are hardly needed ,, you just feel it natural on what you're truck wants , Ben is definitely in tune with his rig,, great video!!
The tach is good to have for those times you screw up and get them both out of gear at the same time.
Great video. You said it all about old school truckers when you said truck driving was a lifestyle not a job. It was in your blood, It was your life, period!
Right on!
AMEN!
Nice classy and pleasant working man. No bragging or tough talk. The best kind of people there are.
Probably the realest conversation I've ever heard from other truckers...
Ben is awesome And so are you! I really appreciate this video
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
That’s some sweet shiftin there
THAT guy LOVES that rig man..and HE’S the only guy who SHOULD “OWN” it! Beautiful truck..SOUNDS fantastic!
That's so awesome and it's a small world my family is from constable and I also work for Malone lumber and ready mix next time I go to NH I will have to stop in to see ben
Right on! That's amazing!
Home run mike awsome interviewe with ben nice guy driven by his place many times headed up to nh ... Big 👍👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it, Thank you!
Great video, this is a lost art and another reason why I believe everyone should learn to drive a stick before getting a drivers license. Keep on truckin!!!!!!!!
Great point!
Wow, I'm blown away. Ben you are a master at what you do thanks for sharing your gifted talent with the rest of us. Mike thank you as well, for giving all of us the opportunity to watch the best twin stick driver of all time.
My pleasure!
j satre.... your right, Ben can handle the sticks Very well... but, believe me when I say that back in "our day"... there many other's who were just as good.
My son and I look forward to your vids man! He is only 5, always asks “when can we watch trucks?”. These are like our bedtime stories, watch them almost every night. We have watched many over and over. I grew up around trucks and heavy machinery, old R Models and Internationals and such. I’m not around them anymore, miss it like crazy. Your videos bring me back to my childhood and have given me something to share with my son. Thank you!
You made my day. Thanks for sharing this with me. I think you'll both enjoy my next video but fair warning, the S word slips out.
Just one word Mike…..Brilliant.
Thanks Paul
I always wanted to become a truck driver. It never happened. This video is so awesome for me. It made me feel 50 years younger! Gear Jamming! What a rush! Skill, skill and skill! Thank you guys so much!
You made my day with your comments! 💯❤️😁
This is glorious. It's an absolute joy listening to Ben talking so knowledgeably and so passionately and so modestly, too. My dad was a lorry driver here in the UK and I used to love going with him in the wagons, driving through the night in the late 1960s. The first vehicle I ever drove on the road was a Guy Big J4T with a 40' York van trailer, down the M5 in the middle of the night when I was 8. There is a real romance and sense of adventure and I totally understand how people have what can only be described as a love affair with old lorries/trucks.
Well said. It's definitely a romance between drivers and their rigs and the open road.
Ben, seeing that ol truck and seeing the two sticks, hearing the rain caps clapping.... I could already smell the diesel fuel....
I learned on '72 Pete needle nose with a 250 Cummins twin stick.
No a/c, no power steering, 27 inch coffin sleeper with a crank up window between the cab and sleeper.
That was 42 years ago.
Now retired due to medical reasons.
Keep up the good work Ben and thank you for the memories.
10-4 driver 👋
I could watch Ben shift those gears all day. He is a cool character. Don't meet many like him anymore. I feel like I've known him my whole life. Thank you for posting this video and THANK YOU Ben for explaining how to shift twin sticks.
Nice little window hope to see it at Bob’s show in July.
I hope so too!
Beautiful truck
It sure is!
You blew it out if the water Mike! Great episode with Ben. Old school trucks old school drivers. Ben was dead on with his description of a real truck driver. ✌️
You made my night Ron! Glad you enjoyed it!
Mike you did it again! Watching this video, you couldn’t have knocked the smile off my face with a baseball bat! Thanks!
You're making me smile! 😁 Thank you!
I remember back when Ben bought that truck..... I think 2006 ish ? There were a bunch of pics of it posted on the LCM forum back then. It was affectionately known as 'Pinky' back then. Ben really knocked it out of the park with all he has done with it. I can verify it works for a living as I've personally seen it running up and down 93rd St. pulling an end dump.
That's out of sight! I'm still waiting to see it with a wagon behind it.
What a great video Mike!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you
I loved trucks when I was little in the 1970s. And you're right, new vehicles don't have a soul. I love this truck way more than a newer one. BEAUTIFUL TRUCK!!
Well said!
You did a real good job shifting them 2 sticks looks like you been doing it for a while you catch on quick my friend be safe
Good editing! 😁
how awesome is that being out on a run, old school truckers noticing each other, shaking hands and being friends...thats movie material
The best!
i learned how to drive with a 5&4 i love twin sticks and old trucks old cat engines. also like old 2 strokes .this pete is a perfect old school truck very nice restored and i love how you drive it!
i am what i call an old school trucker. and i know the full meaning of it.
i dont like new trucks i agree they have no soul. no connections between the truck and driver
take care of this good old pete! shes a gem! 👌
Ben seems like a laid back all around good guy. This was a very good video of twin sticks in action. 👍🇺🇸
Thank you 👋😀
I kinda hate you right now. Ben, you ain’t wingin nothing. True trucker! Thanks for taking us on the ride👍
😅😅
BT, you do a fantastic job with video and editing. Going for the rides with you puts me back at peace. Disability really sucks! Shiny side up brother.🇺🇸
Smooth shifting!! Very Nice Demonstration!! Thanks!!

Thanks budmeyer driver I didn't miss trucking until this damn video man it was a cool truck I learned how to driving at the same transmission a long time ago thanks for making me miss what I used to do
It never leaves your system.
“Suck it up buttercup “
Truer words have never been spoken. Great video sir!
😁😁
Man I think this might be your best video yet
I agree!👋
Greetings from northern NY. Tell Ben "If' it's from Malone, leave it alone!"
Haha I will.
Awesome! I learned on a 5+4 at 16 yrs old 😳 in the late 70's! On swamp roads and the piney woods to start. 😆 Once ya get used to shifting correctly and the various 'options' it is a blast. Old school truckin'!
great video brothers had 1957 b61 macks duplex 5x2 broke me in 1960s at age 14 great memories
Thank you
Gr8 Vid of sum Vintage Old School SUPER C😎😎L IRON!!!!!!!!
Right on!
That truck is beautiful
Quick fire of one old detroits been good too. Love me some detroits
Way back on my channel I took his General for a ride.
Just a Beautiful truck always love the needle nose Pete
Thanks 👍
First tandem I ever drove was a 72' Louisville with a Detroit and two stick. Lost art😊
Wow 👍😁
Awsome video Mike
Thank you!
Great video. Takes me back to the 70s when I drove a White twin stick and a 63 Kenworth twin stick and - like Ben says - staying awake listening to Waylon Jennings and the Outlaws on an 8-track. Where have the times gone? I have driven a lot of other transmissions over the years, but there is nothing that holds the same attraction as a twin stick. It would be nice to be back there for even just a day. This video is as close as it gets.
That is one beautiful tractor, and Ben sure knows how to make it do what it is supposed to.
Awesome video Mike
Thank you
Amen brother for the love of it I've been tracking for 40 years for the love of it
10-4
Love these old classic trucks
YIP...!! BOOM...!! THAT'S IT... I'm 35yrs old and that is what I ❤️ about driving a truck... It's the Diesel Smoke smell it's the clattering of the engine... it's the way the synchronization of the gears ⚙️
It's the sound... it's the way it feels to drive it all with perfection
And absolutely 💯% trucks have soul
I know because I miss my 1986 Freightliner Cab Over... That had the 3406 B Caterpillar
I'm cursed these days with this automatic bull shit
Awesome video Mike! love to see company's still running old equipment and not settling for anything less than class act drivers.
Wow 🤩 beautiful needle Pete and amazing job shifting - well done driver👌
Glad you enjoyed it!
I'm honored to know you saw this video. Thanks for commenting! 👋😀
Started driving in England aged 21 in 1962 first with 3 cyllnder two stroke Commer lorry then worked my way u to a semi known in England as an articulated lorry. A Foden 160 cummins with a 12 speed 4 on the floor three on the tree given to me to drive as nobody else wanted to drive it because it was complicated. Then i came to USA when i was 32 in 1972 worked on detroit engines in Rapid city S Dakota then worked at Universal transport rapid city on dry bulk tanks low boy end dumps and flat bed then i bought my first truck Freightliner with a 270 cummins then a 370 pete plus many different trucks finished with freightliner Coronado 132 with C15 cat 18 speed retired in 2021 after 59 years i guess i am old school. So i enjoyed the ride along to see a two stick expert!!!! Thanks for the lesson Ben. Stay safe out there. Ed 40 s of Vegas.
You've had a lifetime of experiences most never will come close to. Thanks for stopping by.👋
"If it will start"... hahahaha.... that thing was warmed up!!! didnt even smoke....
Love it though.. the needle nose is an all time favorite.. And the polished Double Eagle sleeper. CLASS....
Haha don't believe you every thing you see on social media 😅
Excellent vid Mike !!
Many thanks!
This guy is awsome
😀👋
I'm so glad I have a sub woofer on My PC !!! Just lost a fellow trucker Brother of 30 years two weeks ago and what caught My attention was the colors on this Peet, same as Terry's. Peterbilt forever. He passed behind the wheel sitting at a job sight in His truck. Fitting, RIP. Great video.
old school truckers were o/o (owner/operators) they drove carefully, shifted with ease, knew how to work on truck, laughed at the jake braker cowboys, would laugh at new truckers with lines of bull about their rigs, trips, etc., sitting at the truck stop, grabbing a quick bite, swirling down some coffee, while fueling up...
Old school truckers can be company drivers as well.
Top Shelf Video The Best Love old school Trucks.
Thanks 👍
Excellent job on the 2 sticks brings back memories
Absolutely without a doubt the most kick azz video yet!!!! True epitome of Pride in the profession and having the love and desire to run old iron. Incredible. I don't truck but have nothing but mad respect for guys who live and breathe those old school trucks. What a video! Be safe out there.
Thanks Jim, I love that my videos cross over to people outside of the trucks. Rock on!
Great video to start off 2023, thanks Mike and Ben for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it!
That’s a great rig!
...this guy is a Trucking Treasure! Awesome! 🙂

Right on!👍
That is SOOOO 😎😎😎😎😎.
Love the deck plate never thought of
Wood decking. My Cascadia has Almost a full deck plate. Got one piece off my old IHC got another of a wrecked FLD
And the factory one. Still need 30" to make it solid. That Pete is yet another dream of my childhood. 3406B is an AMAZING motor. Dad still misses his.
Dad had a 6x4 spicer in his 79 KW.
Behind a 3408 cat. Sound like a good gig and boss.
Right on! 😀👍
Good video !!! John Taylor
Awesome interview with Ben that old gal just has a gangster look and feel and his general's are spot on great video as always stay safe mike
Glad you enjoyed it!
I grew up in a trucking family. I couldn't wit for summer vacation from school. Ment Big Rigin in a 1988 Ford CLT 9000. When I wasn't out n about I was on the farm in an old Mack dump. Twin stick exactly this K Wopper. Brings back so many memories. N well now I'm a trucker n trying to give my youngins the happiness I had growing up. I love being a Truck Driver.
Best way to grow up!
That by far is one of the way best ever videos you every did . I started my career in a 1982 small bunk Pete running team from conn to calif . Could you imagine running team in that truck awesome . Thank you so much for bringing back the fire in an old school truckers heart you rock !!!!
Wow, thanks!
back in the 40's my uncle started driving @16yo he pulled fuel tankers with twin stick trucks in the hills of California, his boss removed the shift knobs until he learned to double clutch without grinding the gears, he said after about two 14 hour days your hands get real sore and you get real cautious with shift levers , he bought his last twin stick truck in the 70's w900a long hood cat 3406a 5x4 trans flat top walk in bunk with an aluminum frame, I don't recall him ever grinding a gear but he said it happens, he also said there were times, especially when loaded heavy he had to pull to the side of the road and start over, he said when everything is twisted up tight and you dont clutch just right it can kick the gears back in the wrong direction, in some way I think he was just trying to make me feel better when he was teaching me how to double clutch a 13speed, he said anyone can float gears but if you want your transmission to last twice as long you need tto learn to double clutch
Your Uncle is a testament to the good ol days as they say.
I've always floated gears.
I had 2.3 million miles on my Rockwell before it lost a snap ring and went into two gears at the same time.
I'll take 2 million miles on a trouble free transmission any day.
@@tomfuelery2905 that's an amazing rockwell might be worthy of a museum exhibit, wonder if it would have lasted 4.6 million if you had double clutched🤣
Ben seems like the nicest guy on the planet. So humble and genuine. Just a nice guy
I could listen to that big ol Cat purring all day! Driven 10, 13, 15 and 18s but all single stick... this would take so.e getting used to!
👋😊
My new favorite video Mike, the female milk truck driver is now my 2nd favorite👍
You made my day! 👋😁
Damn.... that guy knows how to shake them sticks com'on
😁
Truckin in a rig like that would make life more fun.
Great video Mike. It brought back memories of learning to drive a twin stick. I learned on b-61 and b-75 Macks and a few Oshkosh. You can tell when a person is enjoying himself because they're smiling. Ben Senter never stopped smiling the whole time. Good job picking up the way to shift. Match the engine rpms with the gear ratio and you've got it. Much fun. JM
It was a lot of fun!
Mike you knew what you were doing with those gears put some of these young blokes in a bath model mack with the twin sticks
Lucky bastard! I want to drive a 2 stick.
@@johneldridge428 I saw a video on here a guy posted that showed how to shift an automatic!!🤔😂🤣😂
Wow that was great, what skill shifting that truck
Great Video! I learned how to drive a twin stick 5 and a 4 in a 67 International 10 wheel dump during rush hour traffic from Weymouth to Harvard square and back in 1983. I always tell people you never drove a real truck until you drive a twin stick.
That is awesome! Thank you!
Oh that overdrive whine! Double od whine!!
What a great video, thanks for making it!
Love that truck. Old school rules! I am old school, but am now driving a Mack Anthem with the Mdrive... gotta say, that dang thing does a good job, hard to believe a truck can shift itself as good as it does.
Stay safe, C'mon Beek!!
Can only imagine how totally soulless an all electric truck would be to drive compared to this - total harmony between truck and driver with this baby!
A place you’d go to work for in a heartbeat.
Exactly
Hey Mike, what a great video! Watching Ben going thru the gears surely had me smiling from ear to ear. Loved the tour of the trucks in the yard & his 65 pickup, thank you both!
You and me both! Thank you!
Now that's a driver! And has class! With classic iron in the fleet! Type of owner I'd drive for!I worked for a small trucking company as a teen washing and services on the equipment! Loved it. But hatred the Coe! ( that thing drove us all nutty lol).
Most people who want a cabover, never drove one.
@@TheBostonTrucker it was having to replace screws in the door hinge cause they would rattle loose after a week! And the Coe was also a logging truck! So yeah. It had a hard life lol
Oh! I am in heaven!!!! Thank you, Mike for sharing this amazing old-school truck (and driver). The young whipper snapper generation of automatic transmissions would probably be lost in space if they tried to drive this twin stick!😆
You are very welcome! 👋😁
That was awesome
Thank you!
Very entertaining mike,Guy seemed like a regular guy from.NH which I've been to many times heading to turnkey,Very knowledgeable and pleasant as are you,Once again Haven't disappointed me
I use to run to Turnkey all the time. Have a safe trip!
One awesome guy !
Beautiful truck and a class act owner. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
I love the definition of your old school trucker. While I'm only 40 I Was raised old school by my dad and love it. You Hit the nail on the head my man. Nice rig, good vid. Brought a smile to my face.
Right on!
Dam mike you are good.
👋 thank you
Old school will ALWAYS be cool. And if Ben isn't a legend yet.....he will be. Great video as always 👍
True that!
Ben is a class act...I learned on a 4x4 in the mid 50’s and then later on a B model triplex
Do not know if I can do it anymore. Mike you impressed me also.
If I was still driving, exactly the type of company I would choose to drive for....OLD SCHOOL. drove twin stick for years, something you grow to love...Keep up the great work!!
Right on
Nice ride, the good ole days brother👌🍻 Ben is a class act! Great video Mike, taker easy brother
No doubt!
