Hi my name Evelyn I’m newly single & have bought a 12 viscount nipper. I had a safety certificate done & it failed due to 1 wheel bearing. So I thought I’d give it a go. I watched your video 4 times to make sure I did it right.
So I have now got 2 new bearings on my van & it was all with her help. I’m very proud of myself & that’s a big thing to say. Thank you so very much it is the best video so so informative & easy to follow.
Good to see someone who can still hand pack a bearing the right way! None of these new fangled gadgets that supposedly make it easy and end up not packing the grease in correctly.
Yeah I agree mate. I’ve used packers before and I reckon the hand does it better
Nothing better than watching someone do something well with learnt skills. Makes me realise that I can do it if absolutely necessary but why it also makes sense to pay someone who knows how to do it 100% correctly. Also realised I’m not a ‘grease monkey’ and should stick to spreadsheets. Thanks great video.
Also just realised that 30 people have disliked this video. WTF is going on there? They thought wheel bearings was a National Park or beach somewhere?
😂😂 maybe
Thats was great to watch Justin. My name is Brian Peters and i own Queensland Bearings and have been in the industry for 32 years. That was the best and most informative bearing installation ive seen. The only suggestion i can make is sometimes too much grease isn't always a good thing because Tapered Roller Bearings are anti friction bearings and too much grease creates friction. The other thing i noticed is that the original seal that you pulled out with the medal OD was the correct ALKO seal with a ID of 60.32mm or 2-3/8 inch, whereas the replacement TC Style seal has a ID of 60mm. Most Bearing companies or part suppliers with inexperienced staff don't know that the correct seal is 60.32x90x12.7mm and supply a TC60X90X12mm seal. What eventually happens is that the incorrect seal wears a groove in your stub axle and you have to use a speedi sleeve or replace the stub axle or the seal spins on the OD because the tolerances are too high.
Thanks so much mate! I didn’t know about those seal dimensions hey.
I just figured they’d be sweet because they came in the kit from cruisemaster 🤙
So you don't need to fill the hub cavity one-third to one-half with grease? That's what the ALKO bearing instructions recommend, and Timken also.
Hi Guy's, great to see someone that know's how to pack a bearing. Good job.
Thanks mate
As a chick learning about camper trailer maintenance as I like to do things myself if I can, I’ve knocked around cars since I was able to hold a shifter so have some mechanical knowledge but can I just say thank you ,that was so good no skipping stuff or trying to make it look good for the channel just bloody awesome.
Cheers mate
Thanks mate....well done and very well "produced" by your media staff ♫♪♫...Im sure she missed her calling to Hollywood Movie Studios.A man that shares knowledge is a credit and assest to society.Cheers
Thankyou
There is no doubt that the children are learning something effective. Congratulations to the family on sharing the experiences
learned a lot from this video. Dad was a tradie but taught me nothing about car mechanics so good to see it first hand. Keep it up!
My hubby is also a mechanic and he said he was taught to do the wheel bearings exactly the same way you do, right down to greasing the shaft and packing the cap with grease. Ist year apprenticeship job, 41 years ago. 😁 Top DIY video.👍
Cheers mate😎🍺
H Justin and Bec I've been watching your RUclips channel for about a year now and have got the caravanning bug and just bought myself a second hand one . It's just over a week to we leave remembered to check the bearings and remembered you had a video on it . Thanks for that it is very informative and gives me the conference to do it myself .
I love how intrigued the kids are. You’re teaching them great skills!
Great work, great information Cleary explained.
Just picked up our new van driven home 800klms checking ATX bolts for correct torque etc and noticed one of the rear seals is leaking so going to pull it off and check it out re pack the beating with grease before having to get it fixed.
Thanks for the info & safe travels.
Glad it helped
You're a legend. One of the best DIY videos on bearings I've seen. Thank you so much.
Cheers
Did enjoy. Been doing repacks for decades. New van so needed to come up to speed. Nice tip about greasing the seal spring, would have never thought of that. Nice work. Max.
Best info ive watched about doing wheel berrings and brake pads detailed on every topic
I appreciate that!
Latex gloves are a god send when replacing wheel bearings.
Excellent run through for those who have never changed wheel bearings before, nicely done guys 👍👍
Thanks mate
Did mine last weekend after watching this video - cheers bloke.
Thanks mate your video has been has a huge help with the changing the bearings on the boat trailer I just bought. Much appreciated .
Cheers mate!!
Just wanted to say a BIG Thank you Justin, being a novice that was so helpful and the level of detail was fantastic , the great tips just showed your level of experience and qualifications , thanks again for taking the time really appreciated it 👍
Cheers for the feedback mate, appreciate it🍺
That was one of the better how-to’s on bearings. Thank you both!
Thankyou mate
From one "Grease Monkey" to another, good video. It is good to see someone willing to share their knowledge to help people who may not know or are just a little unsure. I went through trade school before you were born but still enjoy doing my own maintenance. No one to blame but myself it fails but reassured knowing what was done. Keep up the great vids, my wife and i wait for each new episode.
Thanks mate, appreciate the feedback🍺
Justin that was the best explanation I have ever seen. Great job mate. Thanks
Great video, some good info on what’s a pretty crappy job. Enjoyed it, thanks.
Thanks mate
@@TripInAVan what grease did you use?
Cheers Justin great info just started new job with a caravan repair company and I will be learning all this really enjoying this new career and working on caravans
Tip that works well when using old cup to assist seating the new cup. Cut off wheel on the grinder, thin cut on the old cup. Then it won't get stuck in the hub. Keep the old cup for future bearing service
Thanks for sharing such important info for us non mechanics guys. Very much appreciated
Glad it was helpful!
Great vid thanks guys. I just repacked the Landcruiser bearings. I have Cruisemaster suspension in our van too so thanks to you, now I know how to repack them as well. Cheers 👍
Thanks mate
That was interesting! Can't believe I watched a mechanical vid from start to finish, given I don't even own a caravan, but that was quite fascinating to see how intricate wheels/wheel bearings are to change. Thanks Justin, and Bec did fantastic on the camera too :)
Excellent video. I'm going to do mine. I saw a poor bloke in Southern Cross WA recently who had done a bearing in - don't want to be like him.
Was like a kid listened to every word & now ready for the exam. Like all the ideas.
Wife always told me I had a hard head now I have a good use for it.
Grease monkey
Excellent tutorial Justin - thank you. I’m pleased you showed tightening wheel nuts after lowering the jack. I failed many years back to do that after repacking the bearings on my boat trailer. About 4.00am the following morning, in the middle of nowhere, one wheel fell off the single axle trailer! Thank goodness I was able to find the wheel and scavenged nuts from other wheel (although I had a spare wheel) and limp home. Cheers from lockdown Melbourne. Jeff. 👍😀🍺🐟🐠🛥 Grease monkey.
Great video Justin for those who need to learn how to do it - done exactly as I do it...
Cheers
Such a good video mate! This is exactly how my grandfather taught me to change wheel bearings, it was a nice refresher. I feel pretty confident about doing my caravan's bearings now. Cheers!
Mate after watching this video I believe i could do this job myself. Thank you Justin
Thanks mate 💪
that is one of the best I've seen great job good tips, every one who travels or wheels should watch this being done ! even pen pushers and cops should know how they work and how to replace and re pack ! it would stop a lot of hurt you see on the roads these days ! great video guys
Fabulous vid, great info, thanks for sharing, disposable gloves are the bees knees for this job
Yes they are!
Good to see someone who knows how to pack bearings.. V Good video guys as usual :) Now going to win my tool roll !! Cheers from the UK,
Fanbloodytastic, thanks very much interesting and good info. Keep travelling safely. Enjoy all your videos.
Thank you, already knew but its been so long it was a good refresher, Im to old to be doing that any more so I get someone to do it for me
Already knew how to do this job but it's always good to see how others tackle the job! For the most part I do it the same way as you 👌 Good video mate, keep em coming
Cheers
You're Instructor material Justin.
So great to see a How To segment without the bullshit hype.
The boys attention .. Look's you may be out of a job .
Taught this way by father in law many years ago.
Cheers
Thanks mate
Hands down best trailer bearing how-to video, cheers heaps guys and safe travels 🍺
Absolutely brilliant video Justin, and your wonderful camera woman, thank you so much for taking the time investing and sharing your knowledge to create this bearings masterclass video.
Love following you guys, wish we had met you when you were in Margaret River WA, maybe next time or on the road.
Safe travels, keep the videos coming.
Thanks mate
Best how to vid I have seen, and great camera work by Bec. 👍
Glad you enjoyed it
An awesome video - a lot learnt - thanks - a step by step guide to give my own a crack now!
Great job Justin it’s good to know how to do things in the bush as you never know when things may go askew
Cheers mate
Very informative and easy to follow, great idea for all to have some idea on how to change the bearings.. Well done..
Great info mate I never comment I’m a young fellow and like to think I know a bit mechanically. I’ve just recently bought a camper trailer and I didn’t realise that there’s so many parts involved in changing a bearing on a van . Made the misses watch hopefully she learned a few things for when we do our lap next year
Cheers mate, glad you enjoyed it
Thanks guys for another great episode.....take care and be safe👍👍👍
Cheers, safe travels
Done a few wheel bearings an brake pads in my time ,that was really well done .
Cheers champion🍺
Informative video guys. Small tip; run a bead of silicone around the dust cover and wipe excess off. Waterproofs them a bit.
Great practical vid
Thanks Mark
Glad you enjoyed it
I have the exact ATX air suspension on my Zone RV Justin ,thank you so much ,I will be following your lead when doing mine ,I feel so much more confident now ,Thank you both so much Cheers!!
No dramas mate, happy to help
Great info for mechanical maintenance; keep ‘em coming please.
Cheers mate
If you put a cut in the old cup that you use to put the new cup in, it won’t get jammed in on top of the old one. But you’d need a hacksaw or angle grinder to do that, which I guess you don’t have. Great video! 😉👍
Yeah perfect tip😎
Great info. I feel confident that I could help hubby with this now 😉🤣. Lucky you being able to pack your bearings in the aircon. Another great video.
Grease Monkey 🐒
Thanks mate
great video Justin .. a few tips I didnt know about. I still hate doing them! You have paced this very well and is a great example of a "how to" video. maybe thats your career when you live in a house with no wheels.
I literally did my bearing replacement yesterday.. woulda been little handy if this came out beforehand ;p thx for the tip on using old cup to push them in and knock back out..
No dramas mate, hope ya enjoyed it
Awesome Vid guys. I found this to be so helpful and I learned heaps from it. I reckon I could do the bearing on our caravan from your vid. Thanks for doing this one. I would love to see some more maintenance vids like this.
Thanks mate, happy to help🍺
Agree, good info and well explained. As you say prevention is always better than fixing something unplanned. Cheers.
Awesome stuff guys! timing couldn't have been better, just purchased a van (2nd hand) and the bearings are job #1 on the list. Very informative with each step well described. So looking forward to this job 😱. thanks again. I'm sure this will be on repeat a few more times.
This was an awesome video, I’ve even saved it to my ‘when s**t goes wrong folder lol... thanks heaps guys 👍🏻
How bigs ya folder😂😂
@@TripInAVan it gets bigger all the friggin time 🤦🏻♀️
Hi guys that’s great Info keep up the great work more videos like that would be great maintenance on vans and vehicles 👍👍
well done you need more of the safety tips like this one love the series.
Cheers
Hey mate, just want to say thanks for the vid. Had a crack at the camping trailer bearings for the first time after watching the vid. Some great tips to make it easier. These "how to" style vids for basic maintenance are brilliant! And great to see you're still travelling after all these years. 2017 seems like a long time since we were crossing paths...
Cheers mate, happy to help
Grease Monkey 🐵 Thanks guys . We’re never too old to pick up new tips & tricks . Lovin your vids . 👌
Good vid, it's always good to get a refresher
Proper job mate.... that RAAF training shows thru. Brilliant video, great description, super video work.
Thanks mate. Absolute legend. Always wanted to know how to do that. 👍
No problem 👍
Great vid yet again. We're off in 2 days for a four month trip up North WA. At lake Argyle in August. We will keep an eye on were you are and see if we can cross paths. Stay safe all of ya. Cheers.
I started my working life as a Grease Monkey...
Fond memories.
Good video mate... enjoyed it!
Thanks mate
Good job !!. Thanks for taking the time to share your experience, and Bec, good job on the camera hey.
Thankyou
as others have said bloody good info on doing this for people that havent done it before. Only thing ill say is use the torque wrench on the wheel nuts. I do the ranger 110nm and the trailers100nm. drive say 200 clicks or a day around town and check them and then once a week or before a longer trip. Trust me when i say undo stupid tight wheel nuts sucks.
Hi Mate I agree with using a tension wrench on wheel nuts also you have to be careful not to damage the wheel nuts & studs with some of these rattle guns over torqueing I have to say that was a great video they made great lesson for some.
Great video guys ! even for someone who know how to do bearings , I found it very interesting and informative and you may not think so Justin but you’re pretty good at explaining things mate 😎👍
Grease monkey all right, a massive saving knowing what you’re doing and being able to do it yourself. Great advice as always
Well..... That was a very informative video!
Well done Justin 👍
You make a very good GREASE MONKEY 🐒
One of the best how to vids I have seen.
Faultless........ almost
👍😉🤝🍻🦆
Nice work mate. Great info and I can guarantee I’ll use it on the road
Cheers
Nice job, I’m an ex mechanic and 30 years in the bearing game and I’d do it the same way on the road, good info. I like SKF and Timken bearings but the big Japanese brands are pretty good now as well.
Great DIY video and I’d still not do it myself I have a habit of doing things twice to get right.
Long time watcher never posted. You and your family are a pleasure to follow the journey around Aussie. If ever in a break on Gold Coast I’ll take you to local Dam Bass fishing 🎣🎣
Thanks for watching mate, and appreciate your comments. Good to have you along🍺
Hey Justin, thanks for this, great info mate. I did trailer bearings a while and looks like I got it right. Sitting in bed with a stuffed hip/back but can’t wait to go the road again and looking to bumping into you guys while on the road. Cheers buddy
Get well soon mate
Great informative video. Thanks a heap, as I was a little unsure of doing it myself.
Fantastic demo and very informative.
Agree great information. Enjoyed the maintenance video. 👍
Thankyou
Liked your tip on using the hammer handle to push piston back 👍👍 I always use a G Clamp..... I will try your idea next time🍻🍻
Ah yeah g clamp would be sweet, I have very limited tools with me🍺
Nice work 👍,been watching all your episodes
Thanks mate
Great vid, not sure I will try but good to see, thanks mate.
You made it look so easy Grease Monkey. Very good information for any who want to do maint on the road. The only thing is with my crook back I wont be able to do it. Used to in my younger days but not now. Loved the video guys.
Thanks mate
Wel done! Very informative with some excellent tips! Thanks!
Cheers
You look lake a real mechanic hahaha Thank Mate you are a champion love you videos
Its good to see someone travelling that shows some maintenance along the way,
Grease Monkey
Thanks mate 🍺
you forgot to mention the most important "needed item". A young apprentice to fetch your beer! a tip on driving the new in, use the old bearing race and bearings with a scrap of iron, and tap/drive them in from the middle of old bearing, no tool to purchase.
👍👍👍
👍👍👍👍/10
👍👍👍
Awesome video guys 🤙
watched it to the end you did very well mate well done
Thanks mate
Yeah that was great, I am doing my own bearings from now on:D Cheers guys
Great 'how to' Justin. One thing I do is on the old cups I place a ring of weld on the inside, when it cools it shrinks the cup. When you use it to seat the new cup the welded onejust falls out =no need to punch it out = no damage to the race.
Excellent instructional video Justin I,d take a crack at doing that cheers.
Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed it 🤙
Happy days, grease monkey, another fun and very informative video. I would have a go at changing bearings myself now based on your instructions. Love it. And the egg rings is a bonus.
Great explanation so I can now do my own on the trailer.
Great info mate for those who have never done them
Cheers
