I am glad you are reviewing this one. Vampire of the Modern City was my dive into Vampire Weekend's music. The follow up album was excellent as well and while I need to take a deeper dive into this new release, I really like my first listen of the entire album. It is late and I must be off to bed but I look forward to listening to your review tomorrow. Night :)
@@MusicMentionsReal This album is now on my must buy list. I had no problems with it on the minor drawbacks you found in that some of the songs are a bit overcooked. While I still like distorted guitars. I find that for newer artist who I like that guitars are not as dominate. I actually find that my taste in music is where the guitar is placed more in the background that leave more room for other instruments. The Fleet Foxes Helplessness Blues album being one examine. Well off to my indie record store to pick up this new album.
@@thejoyofthemusicinmylife7897 Hey Music! Happy to hear that you like the album, it's a good one! Also glad that you're supporting your local independent record store. As for guitar, it does seem to be more diminished these days on new recordings. I put this off to kids being too lazy and undisciplined and unfocused to learn how to play. Although there are still some great young players out there, I think we're past 'peak guitar'. Of course, tons of guitars were purchased during the pandemic so we may see some fruits from that. BTW, I love me some Fleet Foxes too!
Agree with alot of what you said, it is a bit too busy. I still really like it though, and its a solid 8 for me, maybe higher. So glad you mentioned you listen to albums in double figures before doing reviews, in order to fully appreciate them. I watched a review of Pearl Jam's Dark Matter recently, and the guy said he listened to it 2 and a half times, (facepalm). I mean I'm glad he mentioned the point 5, because that makes all the difference, lol. I would say, if you haven't already check out Modern Vampires of the City. That's a rare 10/10 for me, I just love that album and still play it regularly. Thanks, Stuart
Hey Stuart! Great to hear from you! There are way too many times when my initial impressions of an album changed after several more listens. I think in order to give a more accurate opinion you have to give the album time to breathe and connect with you. I like the Vampires of the City album but it's been a minute since I've listened. I need to revisit it.
I think the point of Capricorn is about someone who on the surface level looks like they fit in, but they don't feel like they do, they feel different inside or like they are missing out on what connects everyone else together. Someone who's Capricorn yes is technically born in whatever year they become associated with, but in reality they only lived a few weeks or days in that year right after birth. It's such an interesting metaphor for feeling different and lonely I think.
Hey Jeffrey! Your interpretation makes a lot of sense. I can see how the song can be about a sense of disconnection, or even imposter syndrome. Thanks for watching and the thoughtful comment!
