To those who are surprised they didn't mention X. Hyde and Yoshiki belong to the same generation of Japanese musicians. Only bands from the following generation (or at least some of their members) have admitted being influenced by X (Dir en grey, The GazettE, Mucc). And more than being influenced in terms of music, it all amounts to the impact X had in their lives and how they inspired them to become musicians.
I guess Yoshiki has done an amazing job convincing everyone (especially overseas jrock fans) that he's the godfather of the rock and metal scene in Japan, but that's far from being the truth. Besides being a (great) musician, he's also a business entrepreneur who has taken in a lot of the next generation bands under his own record label (just as hide did). But that's a whole different story. If anything, the title of godfather of Japanese rock/metal belongs to Morrie of Dead End, as Hyde pointed out. L'Arc en Ciel or Luna Sea members have talked many times about Dead End's influence on them. And it's a good thing that Hyde puts emphasis on that before international and younger audiences.
Also, being iconic/popular does not equal being influential. These days everyone recognizes a picture of Marilyn Monroe, but fewer people have actually seen her movies. Don't get me wrong: I love X (can't say the same thing about Yoshiki, though) and hide. And Taiji. But I think X were equally loved and hated in Japan due to their popularity. Their trajectory reminds me a lot of G'n'R back in the day.

Maybe it's too late to reply after 5 years, it's the year 2023 now. I agree with you that Hyde and Yoshiki belong to the same generation of Japanese musicians, they have been good friends for years, actually, Hyde and Yoshiki formed the superband called The Last Rockstars recently and perform a debut tour including US lol

I LOVE Interview With the Vampire! So the fact that Hyde likes that movie too makes me feel more normal. Like nobody I know I’ve talked to has seen that movie or even heard of it. I have maybe 3 copies of it on dvd because I keep losing it, lol!
these guys are awfully generous to put up with some of the asinine questions and request most interviewers pose and ask of them. They are pretty good-natured considering most of the titillating drivel has NOTHING TO DO WITH THE ACTUAL MUSIC.

esa seria la traducción , como aclaración las partes que te resumo las hago por que hyde a veces piensa mucho las preguntas o se tardan en recordar lo que quieren decir, también como sabes el lenguaje Japónes es muy hermoso, ellos usan muchas muletillas: etto, eee, etc, entonces si te escribía todo eso jajaja la traducción se haría mas extensa, pero bueno seria todo, que la disfrutes mucho.

What a painful interview, full of meaningless questions. You have one of the greatest rock bands ever in your presence and this is what you ask? I mean I know it is all kawaii and what not but seriously? What good sport Hyde san and KAZ are. They looked miserable.
Totally agree, I have watched it until the end for Hyde, but the the questions were so pointless.
What is up with these questions? This must be absolutely annoying for HYDE and K.A.Z.
