Finally with this aircraft, Qantas can resume Perth to Rome all year around. With ZNM and ZNN expected to arrive by the end of June, the talks of launching Perth to Paris can come to fruition.

Qantas is expected to announce this year an aircraft to replace the A330ceo. As much as I adore the A330neo and I have no doubt it would do all missions effectively, I hope they select the 787-9 for fleet simplicity. 30+ 787-9s alongside A350s and A321neos for the mainline fleet will work out cheaper in the long run, fully streamlined.

Yes it would be nice to see Qantas place more orders for the 87

It would but tbf it would be more logical to pick the A330neo because pilots don't have to do extra training

@@yssyplanes You've made a good point there but you can argue that with the A321neos coming in, the pilots will not need extra training since the cockpits of the A321 and A330 are pretty much identical. The soon to be ex-737 pilots however will need extra training regardless since the 737 and 787 are nowhere near identical. That's why I think streamlining the fleet is better.

It would be cool to have more 787s and you're right about fleet simplicity but from an airline's perspective the A330neo is better for certain routes. It has similar operating costs to the 787 but it's more optimised for short-haul flights such as the golden triangle routes. Airbus and RR made modifications to the landing gear and engine compressor blades respectively to allow for more flight cycles and reduce the frequency of maintenance checks. However the 787 would be more suited for BNE-LAX and MEL-DEL for instance as they exceed 12 hours in flight time. A possible solution is both the A330neo and 787 as QF already operate both aircraft families.

@@captainmerk747 I'm aware of those advantages, I even said them on a recent video about the A330neo making it the perfect aircraft for Asian and African carriers. If they do end up picking the A330neo, the 787 will most likely do those BNE-LAX and MEL-DEL routes anyway since the A350s along with project sunrise will replace the 787 on its longest routes such as PER-LHR and PER-CDG (which will happen soon).

That's cool Jay! I assume Boeing is resuming deliveries of the Boeing 787 after they suspended deliveries due to fuselage issues as the summer season in the Northern Hemisphere is around the corner. And those engines sounded like the GE 90s on takeoff.
