I like the point he makes around the 10 min mark that biking is at human speed and can help us connect with the outdoors for that reason. Mainly because it removes the impediment to being out there. I mean I can walk out my front door but it takes a while to get to the ‘wilderness’. With a bike I can get to that spot quicker and cover more ground once I get there. Cycling therefore is a bridge that allows us to experience the wilderness at a pace that meets us half way between a modern pace and the slower ancient one.
This guy started and inspired a whole industry of steel gravel bikes, bike bags, cycle touring with a steel basket. The whole minimalist style of bicycle touring with a hippie vagabond edginess made everyone notice that to cycling is just to simply ride your bike and have fun.
I don’t know if you have heard of Rivendell, but Grant Petersen’s philosophy really inspired Ultra. One of his most popular builds (ultras) is a Rivendell Atlantis.
@@al-du6lb A cool bare shiny Aluminum Rock Hopper. Super strong 90s vibes. Super lucky to pick it up for 100 usd for the whole bike. Swapped out the bars and had it deep cleaned and reconditioned. It looked properly used like a daily driver but not very worn. It had the original STX shifters, derailleurs (rare parts now) and in-house specialized cranks and parts. You just gotta wait and be patient. Next target is a Cannondale F series in RED.
I think biking even in the city instantly connects you with nature. You immediately realize the oxygen is a fuel scource. You realize what is important. We just have lost this connection . Cars are our Gods. We rely on them for our movement and livelihood. If car production stopped tommorow our economy would collapse. That might be a good thing. It seems humans are asleep right now. We can't see reality and where are we headed collectively???
Yep. They are loosely using the term here when in actuality they mean National Forests, which are part of the dept. of Interior ,for timber harvesting. That's where the dirt roads for legal cycling are. Real wilderness has strict rules, including no bikes.
Actually that aspect of cycling turned me off to it when I was younger. Looking into touring now and enjoying it. I was never super fast or would not train, needless to say you get dropped and the Sunday ride turns into a torture.. To funny about 1 Yanni cd🤓🤣

Love the wholistic attitude toward life & cycling. It’s nice to strip it down and just ride and enjoy time on the bike. Enlightening.
