Gratitude dear, freaking amazing info I've been looking for! I have a Huge Pyramid that is a generator for my Spirits. I often perch with my Dragons at the very top. They can feed, chill live and gather there. My Ancestors love it there. I practice meeting them there all the time. It is my palace.

The basic idea of this mental structure is that you build it BEFORE you need it, and practice going to it BEFORE you have to. That way, when you do need it, it's all ready and waiting. The hard work has already been done.

I love this technique so much! I stumbled on it myself during a yoga class. We had a section of meditation, and I found myself walking in a familiar forest, but it was struggling and dying. Being freshly out of an abusive relationship, it was helpful for me to mourn the old forest, and tend to it so it could regrow. There was so much crying involved. I very quickly recognized it as a portion of a fantasy world I designed as a child. The stories I wrote in that world led me to research witches, and without that I don't know where I'd be today, so working closely with that space as an inner temple has been so lovely. I have gone on walks there to learn about myself in areas I struggle, and have been genuinely surprised by what I learned. I do also have areas that are more structured, but the discovery of myself through wild places has been so enriching.

I’ve been playing the Sims from day one and it really does help with visualization lol. Thank you so much for this! I have a cabin in the forest next to a heavy tree line separating it from a flowing stream and I can instantly go there but I’ve never gone inside for some reason. This really helped me take it further.💜

I’ve been meditating this way for many years- I just didn’t call it a mind palace. It’s so effective and much more enjoyable than focusing on your breathing! I’m good at visualization but I have some clients who are not. One method I find fun and useful (also for myself) is to make mood/vision boards. So you can create your whole “palace” or make a different one for each room. Cut places and things you like out of beautiful magazines (like Architectural Digest for example) and make a collage of elements you like for the space. You can also print images to cut out if you don’t have magazines. Keep them where you can regularly see them so it becomes easier and easier to go there in your mind.

I learned very similar processes in Nick Farrell's book Magical Pathworking: Techniques of Active Imagination. You've reminded me of many ways the mind palace/inner temple can be built and it's versatility in magickal practice. My mind palace is probably derelict since I started a job in academia in 2015😁. Thanks to this video, Ivy, I'm inspired to pay a visit and rebuild.

As a total aphantasic I have to say this: NO YOU DON'T NEED VISUALISATION TO DO WORLDBUILDING, OR ANYTHING ELSE IN WITCHCRAFT.
You can intuitively know what things/ beings look like without actually picturing them. You can get communications as if a novel's being written and it only makes sense for a dialogue to go a certain way. Please, if you're an aphant:
    1) don't let anyone tell you "you just need to practice visualisation",
    2) know you're allowed to throw Psychic Witch out of the window and still have your spells work!
(Sodry for the rant but it's a topic I'm passionare about!)

      @@meakia9 Nope, sorry - I'm a shy bunny. 😁

Love this practice! Mine is an inner grove that I constructed during Druid studies. While I don't have rooms, I do have different areas that I gravitate towards for different things. For me, it is also such a natural way for my subconscious mind to speak to my conscious being. I actively designed my space, but now when I enter, I make no conscious decisions. Whether it's nighttime or daytime, and/or the moon phase, usually tells me how actively I should spend my time right then.l, the way the water is flowing speaks of my current emotions and therefore creative energy, the color of the wildflowers typically show me which chakra(s) to work with, the animals that show up carry messages, etc. This is even how the spirit of Birch showed up to me...I just entered my grove one day and bam, Mama Birch had planted herself in the center of my wildflowers. 😂🥰 It's also worth noting that my experience is with aphantasia, so I conceptualize rather than visualize. I can't actually see anything, it's more of a super detailed knowing.
Druidry also teaches that creating an altar in your inner space that is modeled after the altar in your physical space creates an incredible liminal space between your two worlds. If I am doing a physical working, I like to sit in front of my altar, go into my inner grove to get grounded and inspired, then go sit in front of that inner altar. Then when I open my eyes and begin the working, I am in that super special place where those worlds intersect. Additionally, if I can't do a physical working because I am low on time, energy, or resources, I can simply clear space on my physical altar and then do the working at my inner altar. Doing so allows it to still exist energetically on my physical altar.
Anywhosies, this is longer than I intended. Thank you for sharing the sacred space of your brilliant heart and mind with us!! 💜

I loved this topic - it's so fun and creative. I also have a castle and a woodland as part of the kingdom - I created a special room for my inner child - like an epic playroom - which she can come and go from, as and when, via a portal. I also had to create a room of requirement just like Hogwarts 😂 - and I have the library of dreams lol like in beauty and the beast - I just love how I can create the most elaborate altar spaces if I need - and have a space to go to practice just about anything. I've never housed my servitors within the castle before - I think that sounds like a wonderful space for them - I always had them reside within little physical items as spirit houses. There is this one place on the astral though, having said that - its like a beaten up old cottage doll house - and I have a familiar residing there, but I have forgotten the pathway there and back, so I'm working on connecting those worlds and building bridges and roads between that dolls house and my mind palace kingdom. Loved hearing about your workshop - I'm imagining steam punk Santas grotto vibes 😂 and wonderland omgsh yes - 🙌 I so resonate with how u feel about Alice too ♥great video thank you for sharing xxx

This was a great video, I’ve been doing this for years now and it’s been great to hear it’s a good way of getting into a Theta space of meditation. I also have taught my daughters this when they were young and they still use it and they are in their late 30’s. We build a house and furnish it with a safe space, my third daughter is now a practitioner of magic and learning high magic trying to figure out what she is right now. So I am just giving her space and resources to help her achieve her goals. All of my girls were abused by their biological father when they were very little, and I was so very I’ll with my disease and trying to stay alive and care for them it was so difficult, I almost died because of it. But I was lucky enough to get everyone out. After several years of therapy and hardship we finally found ourselves back on track and happy.

Thank you so much for this. Your talk with The Norse Witch has made astral work stick in my brain and this was a wonderful way to initially visualize where I naturally want to be - and it wasn't a spot I'd thought of yet.
I was able to take notes of what i think each room should be for associative reasons so i can begin building things in my mind more easily.
I knew I'd probably end up using a wood, but my soul said "the north path" where i used to build forts as a kid way out in the woods on our property. It was somehow a big eye opener for that to be where I'd want to walk to for this work because a few years ago i had to vehemently defend it from being logged. It is already such a holy place to me it will be wonderful to work there for astral and shadow work.
Thank you again. This is so so so helpful.

Ever since I was a kid, I’d always create these elaborate worlds and stories in my head. As an adult, I’ve created this little cottage for spellwork in my head. I’ve drawn little sketches of different areas, but what I’ve really wanted to do lately is build a miniature house with all the little areas for my mind spellwork. Cause like how fun would it be to have like a little dollhouse version of your mind palace?

Finally getting a chance to sit down & catch up on your videos! This is one I have been super eager to watch! I love when you mentioned that it can be helpful for those of us who struggle to sleep - that is sort of where MY work with a mind palace (I like that term best, too) really got started! It was only after realizing what I'd done in an effort to put myself to sleep, that I was like "hey wait, this could be useful magically, too!"
& oh...IT IS! My mind palace has evolved into a whole world (or in the least, a kingdom) in its own right.
I also really enjoy using the mind palace techniques for writing my fiction - being a high fantasy author is a life goal of mine, & getting to CREATE the world it all takes place in this way is miraculous. Lots of magical tools can be used in writing fiction (ahem, tarot). I love love love when all of my worlds converge.
This is a fascinating topic, & as always a pleasure to hear you discuss these things! I love your brilliant mind! Thanks for sharing!

Ivy: The Meta Quest 3 is a bit pricey, but I can see how one can get really creative in VR. Especially w/ pass through. I tend to lay off of VR since it can be disorienting, but building my own 'Temple of Solomon' in the Complex Plane is very appealing. You can use hand gestures to do all sorts of cool stuff too. However, I am a fan of minimalism and determinism. I like simple and effective over bells and whistles. The price tag and nausea may be worth it to some though.

I never intentionally built a mind palace, though I do have two "locations" that I go to when I cannot focus on meditation or sometimes when I, for example, want to go to sleep but my mind is racing. The main one is a forest on an edge of the ocean. However, it does not have any defined features or permanent elements. I have been considering building a more defined mind palace - as I can see a lot of potential benefits from it - but I struggle with the concept or remembering what is inside of it. How do you keep developing your mind palace without getting overwhelmed or hyper-focusing on trying to remember all of it elements?

    • @ashenwalls3558

I also travel to a forest that is less defined, and have discovered areas that are on the shore. How interesting that we've had similar experiences! I have a structure that I built in the forest, and I've just been taking it slowly, one room at a time. The more time you spend there the more you remember and maintain. You could also write/draw/map it out in a magical journal, keeping those details secret, but it could help to review before you go back in.

Do you Set a physical timer on your phone that goes of? I'm fairly new to the meditation theme and have a hard time to quiet my mind. Also I have to lay down as I am somehow not able to relax while sitting up.... the thing is... when I'm about to get into what I think is the meditational state I simply fall asleep and nap for 20 minutes or so (but can't get there in my bed trying to fall asleep) well, I think those are topics for a meditation video I guess 😅

World building in the mind made me think of Carl Jung 5:10 In his The Red Book on his thought analysis.

I never heard the term "mind palace" before, but I have been familiar with the concept for some time. I first learned about it in a very obscure but super useful book called "Instant Self-Hypnosis" by Forbes Robbins Blair (who deserves to be famous, but he's not!) The book also describes how to achieve an altered state of consciousness and everything. I definitely recommend it to anyone who's interested in this sort of thing, especially if you are brand new to it and need some help getting started. Thanks for doing this video, Ivy!

You know it's quite odd I've done all this but not through mediation of in my mind I usually just talk it out and visualize it

I have a channel membership through RUclips, not Patreon! 😊 All the perks take place on RUclips instead. The link for the channel membership is in the description box of this video! ❤️ I can't post the link in the comments here unfortunately because RUclips will filter out my comment
