Thanks Ed! When something looks intimidating in HA, I first go and look if you have made a video about it. Your explanations are always very well paced, and I love how you zoom in to the code where necessary. Many others don't do that.
Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm glad that my videos are helpful to you when something seems intimidating. I'll continue to make more content to assist you with any HA-related topics you may come across.
Fantastic explanation of how to create blueprints. You are always my go-to for learning how to do new things in home assistant. Your tutorials are always spot on and understandable. Thank you SO much!

This tutorial comes just on time, was planning to change/replace the automations for my motion triggered lights now i know they will be replaced with blueprint based automations so i dont need to fix 4 automations every time i change something in them. It gives me also the insight to look at some blueprints i downloaded witch are not working just like i want it. Downloaded the blueprint from this tutorial, is a good starting point for me. Thx Ed
Very clear and informative! Looking forward for some hints regarding variables in a blueprint. I'm trying to dim the light before turning it off by motion sensor, so I have to store it's original brightness in order to restore it later (otherwise it turns on to the latest, dimmed level). Will appreciate any hint to existing solution or to variables tutorial.
@@SmartHomeJunkie Thanks. Actually I read your blog version (where it says “I need your help….” so I headed over to show my support by giving the video a “thumbs up” and to ask my question. I have just read the blog again and cannot find it written there.🤷🏼
Excellent tutorial as usual but I am having difficulties getting my first blueprint to work. I copied and pasted the YAML from a working automation into Studio Code Server as the initial basis for the blueprint, inserted the code at the top to define the blueprint and input variables but when I replace the entities in the automation code with !input tags I get an “Unresolved tag: !input” error for every one. I thought I was doing something fundamentaly wrong with the blueprint definition, but even pasting code from the Home Assistant documentation into the file gives me the same error. This makes me think it’s some sort of configuration issue with Studio Code Server. However, I can’t find any mention of this with searches and now I’m stuck.
I'm still waiting to get approved on the wait list. I tested Google Bard through the web interface, but it's not as good as ChatGPT for Home Assistant knowledge.
The explanation about using the service call instead of entity was very helpful.
Let me know what you think about Blueprints in a comment! Are they 👍 or 👎?
Another quality explanation from a junkie that is far from junk!
Thanks!

I don't remember having any videos to help when I made my first Blueprint. Very nice video!
Thank you!
Congratulations on 35K, keep going.... Great video!!!
Nicely explained and shown.
Your English is easy to understand even without much knowledge of English. Keep up the good work.
Merci ED j'arrive a comprendre ton anglais, tu parles lentement et tu articules très bien. En plus les vidéos sont super bien faites!
Merci beaucoup! 🙏🏻
Really good tutorial 👍
I've ignore blueprints up till now as it wasn't obvious how to use them, but now anymore!

I love this tutorial. Thank you. I just wish it wasn't so manual as I had a hard time remembering every step.
Thank you, as always, "illuminating"
That's great to hear!
Great tutorial on how to create Blue prints. Thank you. Question: How can you enter a list (input select) of color via a Blue print.
Ed, I can see the light! 👌
Haha, lucky you! A lot of people don't... 🤪

Question: if you create an automation with a blueprint and then later update the blueprint, does the automation get updated as well?
Yes, I explain this in the video... 🤷🏼

Found the issue! It was my fat fingered typing that gave the file an extension of yalm not yaml! Doh!
Automation to Automarion ...
Has anyone integrated google bard, yet?
