Hi Freddie, spending a day with family or friends having a barbecue is typical in the islands. The blue bird is the Pinzon del Teide (Fingilla teydea) is endemic to Tenerife. That recreational area, as it is called here, is called Las Lajas and not El Contador, which is another recreational area in another part of the island. I was walking through El Medano last Saturday, it's a shame I didn't see you, hahaha. Greetings
No way, that is fascinating- I feel so lucky to have seen an endemic bird of Tenerife! Ahh thanks for the heads up re La Lajas- I’ll pin this comment🙂👌🏻
@@FreddieDobbs it's a lovely spot. gets absolutely heaving in summer mind. I went there with my partner for the Lithuanian day celebrations. I can't say I blame you for wanting to live here. Apart from the bloody tourists making the place look untidy it's pretty much paradise.
@@richardbartlett6932 It looks amazing now, i was there in 1990 and it was time share hell, couldn't walk to the beach or cafe without being accosted several times by people trying to sell time shares.
I know I shouldn't comment on "older vids" but this was lovely, beautiful, entertaining and hilarious (bbq expert!!). Thank you guys. We're addicted to your channel.
I had a 17 corsa diesel from new for 6 years and I put 220k on it and that included not driving it for 12 months during lockdown. Eventually the ECU went but apart from that it had been fault free, it still had original clutch and exhaust. I always changed the oil and filter every 10k because that's the life blood of any ICE vehicle. Mike and Lynda Cheshire
Chris Packham would be proud of your birding prowess! 😉 Thanks for cheering up a dreary day here in Norwich. Thanks for another fantastic video, Freddie and Monika!
Hey you two. Another great vid. Freddie, on your drive up on the duel carriageway did you spot that British Riley car coming down. To use your phrase ‘in immaculate condition’ from the early 60s I think. What a great place and that will definitely go on ‘zero lyst’ It was funny! When Monika laughed when you burnt your hand - so caring. Love the commentary style. Just like you’re having a chat with friends👍
That caves are probably where our ancestors, the guanches, used to live. This is the 2nd video I watch from your channel, I love how you show everything! Glad you like my island :) Greetings

Hi Freddie Before 1492 till the beginning of the 20th century, most of Guanches lived in caves, didn't build houses. Keep up the good work, great memories, hope to come down next spring (covid permitting)!
I'm in Tenerife with my wife and two kids at the moment. We've had to visit the usual attractions such as Siam Park and Loro Parque but driving from Los Gigantes to Loro Parque today showed off some stunning roads with amazing scenery and I'd like to return with just the Mrs to explore some of the areas we passed, ideally on a bike. Coming from the UK its the first time I've driven on the right hand side of the road in a lhd car, it was an experience for sure but I kept wishing I was on my bike. We're going home on Sunday, not too sad as my youngest, aged 3, hasn't enjoyed it at all but I'd like to return.
Thanks Freddie, marvelous video. You make awesome videos overall whether bike reveiw or adventure. Keep up the good work really enjoyed it. I have seen and enjoyed 2 places which are as beautiful as this. First Kashmir and second Canada's Rocky mountains. Simply out of this world. Looking forward to seeing more of your content.
Well done Freddie and Monica. Very jealous of your trip, looked a lovely way to spend a day. Only car I’ve had that did over 180,000 miles was a BMW 535GT but hardly a small car! Keep the Fiat going!!
Even though the guanches did live in caves i'd say that one's definitely not that old and was probably used by shepherds to take shelter in the old ages. There are many little caves like that all over the island.
Oh God Freddie, i need to teach you to make a proper barbacue! haha!. Anyway great vid, very popular way of spending days on weekends for us locals here, I did one myself yesterday! If you are lucky enough you can see a lot of differents kinds of wildlife if you wonder off a bit from the camping/barbacue area, different kinds of birds including some small falcons, rabbits, and different kinds of lizards. Sunday morning treat, ready for Freddie and Monika peanut butter on toast with a cup of tea. No idea what the caves were used for best guess workers caves for storing tools when building the roads. Thanks for the vlog.
Lava Flumes Freddie. It's where the lava on the outside cools & solidifies but the Lava inside still flows freely leaving a hollow cave behind as it flows on towards the sea. The west side of Teide has loads of them.
That's one long old drive down to through Spain and then across to the Island of Tenerife. From London it's 2 days at least. I guess with Freddies optimism anything is possible. Where is Monica from originally? Enjoying your pieces to camera Freddie!

Another fantastic video, I'm not really into bikes but love seeing different places and the old cars. BTW did you know you don't have to tip the coal out of the bag, you can just light the bag, it is paper!!
Hi Freddie. Althought there are some places in Canary Islands where you can find cave houses (you can even rent), most of those caves near the road were digged by the road builders as refugee against climate or just for storing their stuff. Some of these caves are still used nowadays by farmers or locals to store their stuff. If you make a ride along the old road to south (carretera vieja del sur) you'll see lot of them. And its a very nice ride itself, anyway. By the way, you have to make local friends to really enjoy a bbq. I nearly die when I saw you frying in that much oil and eating that supermarket omelette 😂😂 Anyway, the important thing is that you enjoyed your day here in Tenerife 😉
Hi Freddie it sounds like you have a chain hitting the small sprocket casing making that tap n rattle sound see if it needs tightening as it's a new chain. 🤘🤘🏴🏴🏴
Go little Fiat 180,000 miles!! No idea about the caves Freddie, had to laugh when Monika refused to enter!!!! What a fantastic spot to have day relaxing and cooking, looked very nice!! Video and sound quality 👌
In Spain, as in France, they made caves to store food or as rooms for the protection of domestic animals. Sometimes they used them as housing. Some lived in caves during and after the Civil War. Some caves are currently inhabited or used for rent.
Great stuff again, guys. This is why I love Tenerife so much - it can be hot/warm at sea-level, & cool/cloudy/misty at altitude. Have you tried the cablecar up Teide yet?

I once had a 1.1 Ford Fiesta (Firefly model - lots of extras back then) that did 331,000 miles. It was a 1989 model, I bought it new from the dealer and owned it for 11 years until someone reversed off their driveway into it when it was parked and they wrote it off. We towed a 12ft Sprite caravan with it for family holidays, it took us back and forth to Scotland (from Suffolk) where my wife is from, did 40 plus to the gallon on a run, and on a good day would just about do 100mph on the flat.

I recently stumbled across Buttertubs Pass in Yorkshire , I was told that it got the name as local traders returning from the market would store any unsold butter in tubs in the cool depths of the potholes saving the horse and cart some weight on the uphill struggle home. Possible these caves you encountered had a similar use sometime back in history as they look as though they'd provide good shelter from the sun ?

Hi Freddie.I have seen simmilar 'caves' in Africa where the locals have been digging out a substance called Kaolin, which is white in colour, used in some paint products but more so in treating stomach ailments, perhaps they are where local folk have been digging to collect the clay for home made remmedies.
Interesting to get price comparisons at Lidl in Tenerife - especially whisky, but I would guess only popular brands like Famous Grouse, not malts. Can't blame Monika for being a bit cautious about the caves - who knows what's in there? Probs an ancient bungalow. I did shudder slightly at the amount of coal on your BBQ and firelighting technique which you did at least admit! "This is not going well" - marvellous understatement from Monika. Still waitiing for the Attenborough nature show...
Next bbq I will get spot on (I hope!😆). I’ll also up my bird watching game- I was later informed the blue bird I saw was the Tenerife Blue Chaffinch (endemic to Tenerife)
Hi Freddie, I had a 1995 Ford Escort GT Hatchback that I got 295,000miles , before giving it away. It was still going when I gave it away. I've seen many car's with over 200,000mi. Back when I was younger ( I'm 70 now) if you rolled over 100,000 mi. you were doing something. Nowaday here in the states, many people don't think a thing about buying a car with100,000mi. on the clock. That's what technology has done. That said I hate the new car's of today. I wished I could go back to the 60's & early 70's when the car's had style & originality. Plus I could chase the girl's all over again (lol). Keep up the good work as I enjoy your video's. Illinois, USA
Thank you, Freddie and Monika, for another wonderful video! It was nice to see this part of Tenerife! On a separate note, any word from the owner of the Abarth…or is there a surprise vlog update in the works? 😉 Cheers!
180,000 miles: impressive. Makes you wonder why motorcyclists are so amazed by high mileages on bikes. This surfing town: I know I keep going on about it, but if you like this sort of thing, you'd love the west Algarve. I won't mention the place again. LOL! Chilly place for a barbecue. Another interesting, well produced video.
Coolio Freddie ,, like that Cody Francis track , don't know if it's your taste but if it is try a bit of Zero 7 , see what you think , yah nice Barbie lol hay it's all a learning process " do you like woodpeckers" * )
Freddie - come Spring (I live in the USA) I'll be putting in some serious miles on my Z650 - what camera setup are you using for the road filming? Don't see a helmet mount for a GoPro - really wanting to capture moments riding both solo and with my father (he's on a Harley TriGlide now)... any help is appreciated!
Hi Freddie great vlog thank you to you both. Just to add your economy comment... I can get Olives cheaper in the UK than in Greece! Its nuts... not sure how that works🤷♂️
Been following your journeys now for about the last 6 weeks, and enjoying the content, however, as a Tea drinker, I note that you always mention coffee shops!", do they not drink tea in Tenerife? LOL - Great vlogs guy's, keep up the great work - Cheers from the UK
Delighted you found the channel!🙂 Very good question- I don’t know why, but I don’t think I’ve ever ordered a tea before. I’ll consider this next time🫖

Hello again Freddie / Monica.
😂😂😂😂😂. This time Freddie, the National Geographic hires you to make ornithology videos for him.
Advice for the next time you heat a Spanish omelette in the pan, "don't put so much oil on it"; since you are frying the tortilla and you make it absorb more oil than it really needs. It is simply putting a little bit so that it does not get paid and burns. But the best omelette is the one you can make yourself (there are many tutorials on RUclips where you can learn how to make a good Spanish omelette).
Greetings guys.

There is so little moisture in the ground the pine needles actually absorb moisture from the clouds drifting through

Love love this video. Myself and my 5 year old love watching yer adventures. Great to see there’s another guy as bad as me at lighting BBQ’s 😂 spent the whole summer wrecking my wrecking my head with loads of failed BBQ’s but worth it to get one right 😂 great video Freddie & Monika 🤩🤩🤩
I’m delighted I’m not alone in the bbq struggle!😆🔥
Really glad you enjoyed it!🙂
Hi Freddie.I have seen simmilar 'caves' in Africa where the locals have been digging out a substance called Kaolin, which is white in colour, used in some paint products but more so in treating stomach ailments, perhaps they are where local folk have been digging to collect the clay for home made remmedies.
Very interesting, thanks for sharing this Ogri!
Awesome
Cheers!
Ahhhhh Marc- I wish I had a surprise Abarth update coming, but no word.
However- I have another plan coming along those lines🙂🤞🏻🤞🏻
Hi Freddie a great video. I live in South Costa Blanca and off for a bike ride this morning on my Moto Guzzi California. Bright sunny day.
That sounds GLORIOUS!! Have a great ride Lawrence!🙂🤘🏻🏍
Completely agree- I don’t understand why 35k+ miles is classed as high on a bike🤯🤯
Portugal is now very high on my list!🙂
Coolio Freddie ,, like that Cody Francis track , don't know if it's your taste but if it is try a bit of Zero 7 , see what you think , yah nice Barbie lol hay it's all a learning process " do you like woodpeckers" * )
Thanks Vince, I’ll give it a try!
It’s so weird isn’t it!!😆🫒
Thanks Sergio!🙂
Hi Freddie, looks like you had fun, but need to brush up on your bbq fire starting… btw how did you get on with your request to drive the autobianchi?
Ahhhhh no word back from the Autobianchi owner!
Been following your journeys now for about the last 6 weeks, and enjoying the content, however, as a Tea drinker, I note that you always mention coffee shops!", do they not drink tea in Tenerife? LOL - Great vlogs guy's, keep up the great work - Cheers from the UK
Delighted you found the channel!🙂
Very good question- I don’t know why, but I don’t think I’ve ever ordered a tea before. I’ll consider this next time🫖
Nice video as normal - when can we expect you to test some more Harleys/ Triumphs ?
I’ll get on the case to try and borrow some more🙂🤞🏻
I love how hot climates look after old cars..
