I really love how you detail your explanation without making the whole process sound unattainable! Great job on this video! Definitely one to refer people to that want to learn to knit socks!
Thank you SO VERY MUCH for this excellent tutorial and demystifying the mystery that is sock knitting… you are such a patient teacher and you show the hard things really well much appreciated!
REALLY unrelated comment but i just had to thank you so much for getting me through a scary time with this video. i got put on a new blood pressure medication that made me really sick and completely psychotic (couldn't even form sentences it was so bad) and this video kept my attention so well i was able to just lay down and finally relax. stopped the medication so im back to normal now _and_ im ready to make my first pair of socks! i seriously cant thank you enough😭❤️❤️
I knitted my first sock with this video - thank you so much! It's far from perfect, but as you said in your video, I learned so much making it. I know the second one will be much easier.
Thank you sooo much Cloe!! Just finished my first pair of socks, blocked & dried....oh my word....they fit!! I don't think I'm going to buy any more socks...just knit them all. Don't know what I was afraid of. Lol
Many thanks for the great tutorial. Just finished my first sock and found the construction fascinating. I also feel like I have mastered the magic loop technique, I’d never really seen the point of it before , but it made so much sense for socks. Thanks again.
Finally! I tried various methods for making socks and was having no success. I kept getting confused with magic loop if I put the work down after finishing a round. The mini circulars cramped the heck out of my hands, and dpn's were just too darned fiddly. What finally worked was using wooden circular needles and marking the tip of my working needle with a Sharpie. This way, I always know what I am doing with the magic loop. I imagine that someday I won't need training wheels, but I am finding this to be the easiest and most comfortable way. Now, time to finish these socks 🎉
Your assurances that things are fine while describing what we will see in our work is extremely helpful with keeping the stress down. Great tutorial! Lots of love from the Pacific Northwest 🧡
I've been knitting socks since 2009/2010(?), I have given away many pairs of socks and only have a couple pair I will wear myself. I am constantly in the state of customizing and every yarn seems to be different, I've noticed lately that sock yarn is becoming more of a garment yarn and seems finer, I've had to switch to us 1 or even us 0 to get a fabric that isn't floppy. I'm finally narrowing down a perfect fit for my foot complete with anatomically correct toe shaping For winter socks I like to do the slip stitch pattern used for heals for the entire sole of the foot, they wear like iron, are a bit warmer. Ive found I like a short row heal but for closing I work similar to a lifted increase but knitting the lifted stitch together before my turn, never have hole issues and when I'm past the heal (toe up) when decreasing the small gusset increases I also do a few center decreases in the center back above the heal, it seems to cup the heal a bit better and helps with the dreaded heal drop. No, they don't look good on sock blockers and not "Instagram worthy" but they fit and don't fall into my shoes.
Clo, this is an excellent tutorial! I am definitely going to save it for future reference. Thank you for the explanation of the heel shaping. I knew there had to be some logic to it. Your toe graft makes so much sense, too. I am a new sock knitter, new to knitting in general, and all I want to knit is socks. Your explanations help so much. I’ve watched your other two sock knitting videos, and they’re equally helpful. I’m so glad I found you!
Beautiful socks, beautiful stitching . I, too, still afraid to try socks, sadly. ....Maybe 1 day. It looks tough, and yet people take them here n there to work on.
Perfect timing!!! 🎉 I'm finishing my 2nd sock of my very first pair of socks. 🧦 The first one fitted perfectly with the rule of - 10% & - 5% ease from the previous video, so I'm following the same amount of round for the second one. 🧶 Thank you for the tutorials. 💜
Thanks Claudia! I was twisting my stitches and wanted to solve this problem so I watched your video. Your method of pointing the stitches towards each other and then pointing them down saved me.
So glad to have found you! We just completed our first pair of socks that was super easy, but it did have so many eyelets and lace work haha. So naturally we want to work backwards and cast on a simple pair of socks 😂
You guided me through my first sweater. I have been thinking about socks but I think they may be way above my skill level. That said, I will watch this tutorial, and then I will give them a shot. Your explanations are so thorough that I think this may be possible ❤
@silverpromidi I have the yarn, but I have been intimidated with the magic loop method. I have spent a small fortune on various tools for making socks. I hate the minis--they are murder on my hands. I even tried 3 types of looms--yuck! DPNs are too fiddly and I kept losing my place. Anyway, I watched this through once, and have cast on using magic loop. The explanation here is less confusing than the others.
@@milabulic have to agree with you on the explanations. I got up to the heel before I had to get dinner. Tomorrow I will go to our local craft store and pick up a set of the circular needles and master this sock making! I'm on a journey to start knitting socks and this couldn't have come at a better time. Today I am purchasing long cable sock needles and some sock yarn. I'm so excited to get started. Since I've started knitting everyone in my family has come out of the woodwork deciding they want knitwear. Most of them are worthy and I don't mind but because I'm newish at this there are so many things I want to make for myself. I'm usually a selfless maker and sew for others no problem but I find that I'm a little more selfish about my knitting right now. I'd like to get some of my own wishlist done before making things for others. I'm hoping socks will be a way to get items knitted for others a bit sooner than later. I hope I don't sound like a horrible person, I'm usually very giving, but with knitting it's different. Does anyone else find it that way? Also, suggestions for the best sock yarn to start with? I'm in the US.
I'm 100% a selfish knitter and that doesn't make me a horrible person. Knitting takes so much time and you should be able to choose wether or not you are going to gift it or keep it to yourself. As for good sock yarn: Regia, KnitPicks Stroll or Felici, Patons Kroy, Lang Lang Jawoll are all great commercial yarns to start off with.
@@cloknits Thank you! That makes me feel much better. I bought some Regia to play with and a few sizes of chaogoo long cable needles for magic loop. I can't wait to get started. 💙
I generally start knitting with the new color, use the "weavin' stephen" method for the old color and weave in the new one at the end. Does it make sense?

I love this tutorial and now I would like to try making some socks for the first time - I am a new knitter. How much yardage did you use to make those socks?
How do you avoid the gap at the ssk? When I wear the socks, I get a column of ladders just next to the ssk gusset decreases and ssk toe decreases. Thank you
I don't have a pattern for sale right now for these socks, they are a basic recipe that you can adapt to your own size. I could make one if that is of interest but I feel like there are already so many top down gusset sock patterns out there you could take and follow along with.
