Passing my driving test still rates as one of the best feelings I’ve had. Still remember the date in1980. A bit foggy too. At 17 with a licence the world opened up 😀
You’re right there mate. I passed back in 1982 and felt like the happiest guy in the world. I always tell folks the feeling of freedom that you get when you pass your test 👍👍👍.
filming locations 0.39 and 7.22 the test centre is in windmill hill ,ruislip 2.49,3.52 and 9.52 west end road ,ruislip 2.54 and 3.12 long lane ,ickenham 5.13 oldfield lane into currey road ,greenford. 6.09 bridgewater road, wembley 11.16 west end road into bedford road , ruislip with ruislip gardens station in the background 11.25 linden avenue ,ruislip 12.37 ruislip high street.
I took my test in Ruislip in 1971, look at the amount of cars on West End Road then compared to now, I'd hate to take my test in 2020 with the volume of cars nowadays. Thank you for posting.
I’ve passed the test first time boy what a feeling that was. I always signal as I move away from the curb even on an empty street. Well you never know better safe than sorry right?
I disagree that you don't need to indicate when pulling out on a clear road. I always indicate out when driving my Hillman Avenger (really!), just in case there's a pedestrian you haven't seen.
Born in Ruislip, 56, I remember the times so well as a kid, the dreaded Windmill Hill where the test centre was, I failed on the other side at the crossing of Eastcote road lol, great times, great to see the Wimpy Bar in Ruislip.......
I passed my test when I was in the Army, church crookham I got in a land rover, the instructor got out and said, 'drive round the track twice' Off I went, wheelies, stalling, skidding on bends, I thought I was the dogs nuts Got back to the instructor, he said 'Now I'll teach you how to drive properly Every time I crossed my hands, he gave me a whack, any mistakes, it was another crack with his stick I had to do a hill start, he took my cigarettes and put them under the back wheel, He said 'they are your fags, roll back and you will be buying a new packet' t was a hard lesson learning to drive, buI still remember it, but this was back in 67 I went on to drive 3 ton trucks, APC's then a lesson in tank driving with instructions from the commander, that was 'interesting' to say the least Picked up a lot of bad habits since then
5.20 Yes an old fashioned Stop sign. I'm sure I remembered these combination of Give Way (Yield) Sign with a circular "Must Do" Sign. Now all Stop signs are octagonal, these are the only octagonal signs this means you know that it is a stop sign even if it's covered in snow. Let me guess has your local council encased it in a "High Viz" square fluorescent surround? The genius that is Wigan Met Borough has!
It's a shame the voice-over man didn't know the difference between "may" and "might". He used "may", giving a strange twist to what he was saying. He also used "like" instead of "such as".
Mirror, signal, manoeuvre, emergency stop, three point turn, reasons are obvious. People should use the film for introduction, even in the year 2020, new driving tests should be taken every three years.!

What a different world it was though eh ? If you failed back then you had to be a terrible driver ! Nowadays few people pass first time.

Learnt to drive in my parents hc viva back in 1988 great little car's. Look how easy it is was to park back then! 😅
The driving test candidate is played by Nicholas Young, who went on to star in 'The Tomorrow People' a children's sci-fi TV series in 1973.
I thought I recognised him, but couldn’t think where I knew him from 👍🙏
Priceless, a lot of what is in that clip still stands up in today’s 21st century, but the driving standards haven’t improved, loved the film though.😊
Very good, thanks. The brand new Avenger in green is FAB.
A far more civilised era.
Final mot was 1987 and it had been sprayed red
@@ladybee4564 . lol. thanks

Driver is Nicholas Young from the Tomorrow People !!!
He can teleport anywhere he wants, why did he bother with a D/L?

Same here. As long as you’ve got a reason to signal, signal 😊 And not knowing for sure than nobody is around is a perfectly good reason.
Wow my grandad loved his Vauxhall Viva..!!
I know the area where this was filmed. Seems to jump around between Greenford and Ruislip Manor.

It's a shame that you've opted to enable the auto smoothing algorithm.

Racking my brains. who is the Narrator?
Is that John LeMesuir narrating ?
I thought that as well, but the voice doesn't have that " quiver" that John Le Measure has; , I was thinking of LWT continuity announcer Paul Lewis
Looks a bit like oliver reed but cant place him ?
atg 10:37 you can see the hand in the back of the wagon that pushed the box
10:14 the Morris does signal! Script malfunction. Truman's World, same vehicles round and round. Today it is chaos and judo is part of the test.
It's a shame the voice-over man didn't know the difference between "may" and "might". He used "may", giving a strange twist to what he was saying. He also used "like" instead of "such as".
Doesn't need to indicate if no traffic around ? What about predestraens .
There weren't any pedestrians around either, mate

I failed miserably;I opened the drivers door to let the clutch out....
