I started with Dark Matter as well - it's definitely a great one to hook you. I haven't gotten to Recursion yet, but will do so at some point! Wayward Pines Trilogy is my favorite so far.
@@RekindledReader wayward pines series was really good. My favorite of his books is probably snowbound or dark matter. I haven’t read a book by him that I didn’t like yet. Got a couple more to go.
Nice I'm glad you liked it!!! I would highly recommend The Wayward Pines trilogy. Recursion is also one of my favourites, but I would give myself just a bit of time after reading Dark Matter as they can feel similar at times.
Only having read DM and Recursion I can't wait to get into more of his works. Still waiting on upgrade and I kinda wanna read the wayward pines trilogy soon
Just now catching this one! I'm almost done with The Light Fantastic which means I'll be moving on to Dark Matter next courtesy of my daughter. Seems like she made a great choice for me! I also own Upgrade via my Book of the Month subscription.
I've only read Dark Matter so far, and I think I'm the only person in the world who didn't love it 😂 But I'd try another, I'm considering giving Recursion a go. Excellent video, as always!!
Thanks, Bonnie! If you didn't love DM, you can always try the first book in The Wayward Pines trilogy - it's called Pines. That would be my recommendation, but if you do try Recursion, I hope that one lands better for you, it was my preference over Dark Matter and I'm in the minority as well on that, so who knows!
@@RekindledReader I will certainly try the first book in The Wayward Pines trilogy before Recursion, thanks Theo! I was so sad that I didn't enjoy Dark Matter, I probably just read it at a bad point in time, honestly.
This was an excellent video Theo! I loved the way you structured this and I totally agree with your thoughts on Dark Matter and Recursion! I really need to read the Wayward Pines trilogy…I know I’ll love it just based on the premise and already enjoying his writing style so I can’t wait to read it! Awesome video man!!
Great Video Theo! I wasn’t a huge fan of Dark Matter myself and have been hesitant to Blake’s books another go. I liked his writing and concepts but the thriller part fell flat for me in DM. Thanks for a great explanation of the books. I might give Upgrade a try.
Great video Theo! I would definitely say Crouch has improved as a writer. I found his earlier works (Run, Snowbound,Famous, etc) while still very enjoyable, to be a lit bit clunky with some questionable plot choices/ devises. He has definitely leaned more into the scientific aspects in his new works. I thinks his last 5-6 efforts have all been top notch. A “read on release day” author for me for sure.
This was an awesome video Theo! Thanks for the in depth look into Crouch's works. I have been interested in reading him for a while, this was a good indication of where I should start!
This was really good, and helpful Theo. I’m completely new to Crouch. I flew through Dark Matter just recently (only took me 2.5 days lol), and I loved it, but that’s the only one I’ve read. I did watch Wayward Pines, and it was ok, but I never really followed his writing till now. You’re a big help man, thank you.
I finished Dark Matter the other day and you're right - it's a page turner and I finished it in 6 days. For me that's a pretty fast read. I loved it. I understood everything. It got me hooked on is books. Thank you, 🤙
Only just got around to this video, but dammit, you outdid yourself here! I'm ashamed to admit that I thought Crouch only had Recursion, Dark Matter and Wayward Pines out, lol. Thanks for enlightening me about all those other books!! I've already read Recursion and Dark Matter, but I am now definitely going back to check out his other works as well. Great video!! 🤩
Loved this. I’ve no exposure to Blake Crouch but seems right up my street. A video like this is perfect. I did watch the Wayward Pines TV series (didn’t know it was a dramatisation at all) I thought it was pretty watchable. Plays off that Lost vibe of trying to figure out what is going on. While I can see why many wouldn’t like it, I got a lot out of it. Looking forward to reading the books. Cheers 👍
I'm not a reader at all. I'm 37 and probably haven't read a book since high school. I randomly came across Run and really like it, so I checked out Recursion then Dark Matter, then the Wayward Pines Trilogy. His writing style has me hooked. I actually read The Last Town in one day. I'm now working on Upgrade. This was your first video that I've watched and I really enjoyed it. I'm subscribed now, I look forward to seeing more of your videos!
This was helpful. I'll pick up one of his books when I visit the bookstore again next month, probably one of the trio of most recent titles. Abandon sounds interesting too. Thanks, Theo.
I just realized I was using the wrong focus setting (from when I used my camera for something else) and it's a little out of focus here and there so I apologize in advance!!
Great overview! After enjoying Upgrade I decided I just need to read everything else he has wrote! Summerfrost is also one of my favorite novellas and to be honest it really freaked me out, lol.
Great video! I've had Recursion on my shelf for a few months, but I was wondering if I should start with something older like Wayward Pines or Abandon. Sounds like I can't go wrong with any of them, and Recursion should be a quick read, so maybe I can squeeze it in the September TBR!
I started my Crouch journey with Wayward Pines last month and blew through all three books within a couple days. It was amazing and I think about that ending constantly. Watched the first season of the show and while I didn't hate it, the final episode made me quit and I'll never watch season two. Probably going to go with Dark Matter next!
Fantastic video! I'm so excited to start Crough. But I don't think your video worked. All it did was get me excited about all the books and I still don't know where I want to start haha 😂
@@RekindledReader Haha honestly based on your review I'll probably do Dark Matter or Recursion first. I actually watched season 1 of Pines and really enjoyed it (until the final haha) so since I know the twists already I'll probably jump into something completely new and come back to the Pines series later.
That might be true. I read them in the reverse order and loved both, Recursion a little more, perhaps because, in my opinion, Recursion tells a broader story.

It’s not his only series. Desert Places, Locked Doors, and Break You is his other series
You’re right, I didn’t realize until quite a bit later that those are technically series as well! Which one would you recommend over the others?
