- In this, the 6th Advanced Player's Guide for Pathfinder 2 Archetype video I talk about options within the Archetypes, interesting interactions with primary classes (like Witch), and which of these Archetypes suck the most (it's Gladiator). DnD 5e has got nothing on the sheer OPTIONS in Pathfinder and this is just another video that highlights that fact. Go Paizo!

Ah yes the Herbalist, one of my favourite archetypes in pppfff2. Played 2 herbalists already, both were awesome. The first one was an Investigator who had a familiar, a cute little Quokka called Mrs. Parmer. In combat Mrs. Parmer would run around across the battlefield and heal people thanks to poultice preparation and manual dexterity. She saved the day multiple times by deny preventing the death of other charatcers.
The second one is an alchemist (who also has a familiar) who also uses his alchemist stuff with herbal items, because as we read it in the herbalist dedication any alchemical item with the healing trait is an herbal item. The alchemist gets a feat where you can combine different elixiers and they get the combined effects and traits. Sooo he can combine an elixier with the healing trait and any other elixier to a mixture which would still have the healing trait aka still be an herbal item. And since poultice preparation lets you make any herbal item into a poultice you can do that too, now you have this super duper poultice to buff and heal your party simotaneously.
Sorry for the little wall of text ^^
psh - never hesitate to send a big wall of text. I like them. I tend to be quite verbose myself. At least in text. I had not thought of the interaction of having a familiar use the poultice items. That is such a great idea. And I didn't know that the Alchemist could compound items including one that has a healing trait. I thought that was additive or something which was prevented by the herbalist archetype.
@@WisdomCheck the alchemist uses an additive for that, but as I read it only the endemic herbs feat from the herbalist is an additive
Ah! I checked; you're right. That must be what I was remembering and I accidentally applied it to all of the abilities. :P
👍 pf2 is working out.
W00tsauce!
Oooh, this is exactly the kind of thing I've been looking for to listen to as a podcast more or less.
As a recent convert from DnD 5e to PF2e a huge thing I've liked is archetypes and 2e's version of multiclassing. But there are so many it's hard to know whats available to pick from
There really really are. In a system with tons of options and flexibility, the price you pay is that people have to commit time to learning about all of them.
@@WisdomCheck On the topic of Familiar Master, my GM ruled that Familairs from different types of sources (Class Feats, Archetypes, and in the case of Kitsune ancestry feats) don't conflict with each other. Which is how my Kitsune Witch has three familiars (Ancestry + Class + Archetype) which all gain the extra points from the Class and Ancestry
Sure it doesn't make my numbers bigger, but the opportunity to have three differently specialized utility familiars at any time? Awesome.
Plus it gives the character crazy cat lady energy
That is brilliant. A creative solution. I like your GM. lol are all of your pets cats?
@@WisdomCheck One owl and two pet rocks. The first rock is from the Kitsune ancestry feat, and the second was a 'nomral' familair that was advanced into being an Aoen Wyrd
LOL pet rocks! Please tell me talked to them and seemed insane.
A wrestling troupe adventure that becomes sort of anime tournament to save the world nonsense would be awesome for gladiator archetype.
Actually that sounds like fists of the ruby Phoenix a bit...
lol frickin weird. But you could give everyone both the Gladiator and the wrestler archetypes and see what else they make out of their characters. I want to see a gladiator wrestler witch. 😁
@@WisdomCheck might make the living hair feat worth it. Definetly a heel character.
hahaha yeah actually that's true
My current wizard makes great use of Familiar Conduit, his fox familiar rides our fighter like a scarf; he can run ahead all he likes on his turn, still gets haste at 60ft out and I can remain behind to buff the gunslinger sniper the next turn.
Oh fuck yeah, good combo! Have you ever done the "fireball from above" thing with your familiar flying above the enemies? I like the idea but it seems dangerous at the same time.
@@WisdomCheckOnly once after said fighter climbed a watchtower. There were no survivors
@@Druinix Hahahahhaa omg
There are certain archetypes that only make sense as a party-wide archetype that everyone gets due to story reasons like gladiator or pirate or alkenstar agent. These are archetypes you look at that are under powered but fit a story theme. Usually, this would be gm driven. You are all pirates or gladiators so you get these crappy archetypes that work specifically in my story.
But... but they suck.
@@WisdomCheck That is a fair and accurate rebuttal.
😁😁😁
@@WisdomCheck Less than no free stuff though.
@@bradlyhaskell9821 ok point taken 😊👍
every game I've played in familiars are SUPER weak and get 1 shotted
yeah... and the GM pretty much has to decide not to attack the familiar. I have decided not to attack the familiar before, but then it got blown up by one of the players Fireballs because the player wasn't thinking about the familiar either.
