This is exaclty what I have ever dreamed of in a Sonic game and my vision of the best (Sonic) game ever. I have been thinking about making this in Unity. Maybe some day it will exist in this world.

I really liked the levels of Sonic generations, but it felt more like a collection of levels, rather than a full Sonic game. This video is where my dream sonic game lies. Reimagined in perfect 3d.

Michael Averton I can't even begin to imagine what Flying Battery, Lava Reef, or Death Egg would look like with this kind of visuals. Especially Lava Reef actually, the second act with its crystals and atmosphere would be mind blowing.
Michael Averton They could go with the _Mega Man: Powered Up_ route and add a few new characters to play as, like CD Sonic (peel-out) and Modern Sonic (boost instead of spindash, h. attack instead of insta-shield).
It’s funny how back then the attitude to retro games seemed to be that pixel art was dated and game’s had to be remade in 3D or 2.5D to appeal to a modern audience, but now it’s totally shifted and people love pixel art and just accept it. This is a really cool relic of its time and super well made.

Given that Sega owns the rights to Sonic the Hedgehog, that wouldn't be legal, and would get shut down instantly. I do have a playable demo of my own platformer like this that I would like to get on Kickstarter some time in the future though.

I love how well you differentiate between the foreground and background terrain. A lot of newer titles/remakes make the two look way too similiar. Loving these graphical updates you make!
Timdeuces Yeah :P. It would just be like a 3D game interpretating a different instruction set. Just like most Game Maker games interpretate GML syntax, PC Harry Potter games (From first to third game) do interpretate their complex cutscene system, and so on.
You don't have to treat me like this, *****. I do know what an emulator is, I use it for testing my romhacks and homebrew programs I write for Sega Genesis and Sega CD. I understand it's hard to believe, but, leave alone how much the base emu needs to tweaked to work with a hardcoded 3D renderer, nothing avoids it to acomplish such a goal. So how may it be done? Let the emu read and process all Motorola 68000 code just as usual (main engine, game physics), but remove original VDP renderer and replace it with other 3D-based, which display image under some certain criteria, for example, monitors, springs, spikes, Sonic himself, etc 3D models, based on their positions, frame number, etc data represented in Sega Genesis Work-RAM, at Sonic engine's "Objects RAM" reserved space.
I know I'm 9 years old late..but man, if there was 2.5D remakes of the first sonic games, they would be neat to play (if, of course, physic is like original games)
